  • Soooooo...

I just bought the 3DS XL (btw I don't have the normal 3DS) after 2 years maybe :D
And I was wondering if someone could give me some opinions on wether I should get X/Y or ORAS, I was going to get Y and AS but my budget is yeah...

I've also read many reviews on which one to buy and I was like "waaaaat" so please help? :D
At first I wanted to get X/Y just for the simple reason that I've never played it, but I think ORAS has more features(?) and more mega evolutions :7: which is awesome.

    Please help me :D

    Thanks in advance.

  • Well, XY has a few things that set it apart from ORAS, such as character customization, more Pokémon to choose from and use during the main story, and Friend Safari, which makes it quick and easy to get certain high IV'd Pokémon depending on the friends list you have. But ORAS does have more stuff to do and more interesting mechanics.

What I think it comes down to is XY is more for the "have it your way" style players, while ORAS is more for those that want something to keep them occupied.

X/Y's Kalos has AWFUL pacing, is extremely linear and has a boring structure. Hoenn is much more tightly designed, and DexNav frankly makes up for the worse Pokemon selection. (Which opens up later, anyway)

    imo ORAS is much better

  • Doesn't matter which game has more features and whatnot. The most important aspect of Pokemon is type diversity, but because ORAS failed to fixed the original games' problems by not adding more Pokemon into the regional dex other than cross-gen evolutions, I suggest you go with X/Y.

Pacing is MUCH more important than Pokemon diversity. What point is there if the region itself isn't fun to traverse?

Plus, as I mentioned, Hoenn's selection opens up eventually, and we're in a time where trading Pokemon you want is much easier, so if you wanna go that route, you easily can with ORAS. You can't ~fix~ Kalos, though.

  • ORAS.

I enjoyed X&Y, but I'm already having way more fun with ORAS as it is, and I've only obtained 5 badges so far. Partially because Hoenn is my favourite Region, but GF have really done a smashing job with ORAS imo.

While I am an X/Y mod, tbh I think the best thing would be to get ORAS and then wait for the next Kalos game to come out (which should be the next game and should be announced in 2015, unless Game Freak really wants to screw with me), because that game will hopefully fix some or all of the problems X/Y had. Not saying that X/Y was bad, but it was left rather unpolished because Game Freak likes to give the 1st pair of games of a new generation the short stick; it was totally lacking in post-game content, the story was so meh, it was lacking important features like move tutors, etc.

ORAS is superior in story, post-game, and features for the most part (it cut out trainer customization, which is a big plus for X/Y in my book). Hopefully the next Kalos game will be an improvement over ORAS.

get OR/AS, pick up X/Y eventually. That's the best option.

  • Both games have their exclusive features, but I think it's best to go with OR/AS and then maybe give X/Y a shot.

OR/AS has better postgame content, extra new Megas that can't be used in X/Y and also a lot of key Hoenn features like Secret Bases and Contests. Sadly the trainer customization (and Friend Safari to a lesser extent, but I know customization was more wanted by fans), which was a huge selling point in X/Y, was cut from OR/AS so basically in the end it's still worth playing both games, and even just simply trading between X/Y and OR/AS will get your Pokedex filled up very quickly given most of the Pokemon that X/Y's Kalos Dex lacked are found in OR/AS.

Personally, I've liked X and Y; they weren't so bad.

What I was most fond of these games were definitely features; in regards to them, they were truly filled, so to speak. X and Y have character-customization, which is something that many of us have wanted to see for a while in Pokémon games (myself included), and I find it to be quite fun to be experimenting with. They've also got Pokémon-Amie, which allows us to interact with out Pokémon up-close, which is definitely nice.

What's disappointed me, though, is their story-line; if you ask me, it was rather short, which, in a way, caused me to not feel very engaged. If it weren't for that, they likely would have been perfect. In regards to plot, I would say Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire does gain an upper-hand.

  • In my opinion, OR/AS is better because Hoenn is just overall better than Kalos. Better music, location, etc. Didn't even grow up with Hoenn and I like it better than the rest.

Turn off exp share and try catching more than 6, or go with a monotype team if you want your games to be challenging. Pokemon games usually have been fairly easy though.

I kinda agree that ORAS may be the better choice, but it does depend on what game we'll get next and in which region (if in Hoenn or Kalos?), although history does suggest a Kalos region game is more likely. ORAS offers more to do besides beating the game than XY do with a great feature in DexNav, contests and secret bases, plus the Maison which XY also has... but XY aren't bad choices either.

(And yeah - RSE's story is dumb in a number of areas but ORAS helped polish it a bit, and even without that it'd still be far better in pacing and etc than what XY's offered. @_@)

Hardly the worse problem RSE had imo... at least, worst when applied to this day and age when the GTS and wonder trade (plus ways to organise trades online) and Bank if you had other 5th/6th gen games are all options available to using different Pokemon. And with DexNav (and the very generous exp share), I've never been more inclined to use different -or as many - Pokemon in a team than before.

  • I'd definitely say ORAS. Pokemon X and Y were (a) too easy (b) too short (c) BAD/no post-game content (d) hardly any new Pokemon. You're better off revisiting a golden oldie redone in a fabulous fashion.

Get ORAS and then when a third version of X and Y comes out, get it. ^^
You don't really miss out too much if you skip X and Y though. If anything, I like the post-game contents of ORAS WAY MORE than X and Y (XY only has, what, breeding and the Battle Maison >.>)

  • If you like battling competitively and want a game now, get ORAS.

If you like legendaries, then get ORAS, too. It has most of them.

I'd wait for the third Kalos game, though. The Hoenn Dex is ****** and the region isn't so good as the more streamlined Kalos IMO (which really isn't so much streamlined compared to Unova). I'm not getting ORAS for example, as I don't like Hoenn and don't feel like playing through it again. My main interest in the game is the Delta Episode, but you have to play through the main game to unlock it.

The only real problem with X/Y with regards to pacing is between the two first gyms. It takes a long time to get from the first to the second one. On the other hand, there's tons of things to do in between. Plus, if you like the 6th gen Pokémon, X/Y is the better game anyway since you get to use them during the story, but, as I said, I don't recommend getting X/Y now because with GF's refusal to patch the new Mega Evolutions into them, they've been made obsolete.
