Do you care about your Pokémon's gender?

How much do you care about your Pokémon's gender? Will you keep encountering or breeding a Pokémon until its gender is what you desire, or do you not care for it? I know people who always used male Pokémon because they didn't like the way the female symbol looked in the games, and know many who go for a gender they think fits the Pokémon in question. At the same time, there are also many who don't care at all. Where do you fall?

Most of the time it doesn't matter to me, though there are some Pokemon out there with gender differences, and I prefer the look of one over the other (like male Pyroar and Unfezant, or female Hippowdon and Meowstic). I also try and balance my team by gender a little bit, so if I've got 5 female Pokemon, I'm more likely to add a male next rather than another female.

Yeah, I mostly catch males. Charizard being female just seems off to me. Charla always seemed weird, the bow did not help. Same for the fairies; male fairies are strange.

I only care about a Pokémon's gender when it comes to breeding for Egg Moves. I don't try to catch Pokémon with a specific gender before I've completed the game on the file I'm playing on.

Yesteryear, I was a total nutcase who would whittle away thumb and mind alike in the search of a female Eevee. Nowadays, pfft. Nonchalance incarnate. Male Sylveon and Brionne's are cool, and it's fun to let Pokémon have an incongruous gender!

Will you keep encountering or breeding a Pokémon until its gender is what you desire, or do you not care for it?

Sometimes. Otherwise, nah. I'm a hippy who relies on vibes to choose the right Pokémon, and vibes trounce gender 9 times outta 10. Why throw out a female Geodude just because it's... female? I'm too sentimental. I'd cry and search the cave for it all day.

Gender only really matters to me when it affects evolution (Snorunt, Burmy, etc.), aesthetics (I don't like female Sneasel's shorter "feather"), or when one gender seems more fitting than the other (like male for Nuzleaf and female for Primarina).

I generally like to balance males and females on my teams but, if I were to choose a dominant gender, I think I'd prefer having more males than females (possibly because most in-game trainers use Pokémon that match their gender). (Prior to Sun & Moon, I was set on having all of my Pokémon in regular Poké Balls since in-game trainers didn't use other kinds.)

i only really care when it affects how the pokémon looks/what it evolves into. i do like it if i get a female starter but i don't tend to keep restarting until i do

Yes, female eevee(lutions) for me, i KO most of male eevee(lutions)
Oh and a female Snivy too
I don't care about Growlithe gender
For Charmader, female only too, since it's name in german ends with an "a" and in poland names that end with a an "a" are mostly times feminine

I've never really cared about the gender of my Pokemon. But I know a few of my friends who play only want Females for their genders.

My question is: Why pick one over the other?

Generally no but that's just because I do nuzlockes a lot so I can't be picky. The only time I'm picky is if I'm trying to get a shiny of like a female only evolution or something but otherwise nah.

Yes, I usually stick to male Pokémon. Unless it's one of those cases of 3:1 female to male ratio (like Clefairy, Vulpix, Jigglypuff, Corsola, etc) where I prefer and stick to female ones.

I sometimes care, because I associated few Pokémon with specific gender. Like I can't imagine having female Mr. Mime or male Meganium on my team.

I don't really care unless I'm specifically naming the Pokemon after a character in which I have them match that character's gender. Otherwise it's whatever.

I don't usually care because I love all my Pokemon, but I do have two preferences and they... both probably go against the grain. I prefer my Cherubi/Cherrim as male and my Nosepass/Probopass as female.

Otherwise I usually nickname on a total whim and I'll just decide on the spot based on the Pokemon and its gender. Or I'll name it whatever and not care about gender/sex of the Pokemon because it's... kind of like a pet and who says gendered names have to match the sex anyway.

I only really care about genders if I have a specific nickname that I want to use that only makes sense for one gender. For example, in my Platinum Random Team, I wanted to name my Turtwig "Katie" so I soft reset for a female one. Otherwise, I usually don't even pay attention to genders when I'm not breeding or dealing with attract (Whitney.....)

It depends on how it looks I supposed.
I did not choose a Popplio because of the long cutscene in Sun and Moon and they need to be females etc.
