Hey I saw your post in the Heart Gold/Soul Silver section on the shiny topic. It took me soft resetting on Fire Red like 40 hours to get a shiny Chamander so if you really want a shiny starter you'll just have to keep at it even though it gets frustrating after like a week. Also I have read that in Heart Gold and Soul Silver that when your choosing your pokemon that you can tell that its shiny before you take it. So basically you know how it shows the pokemon when your going through the 3 pokeballs, thats when you can tell so that might increase your odds of getting a shiny starter if you didn't have a specific one in mind.
