I have a suggestion for you, after I saw your thread on Pixel art
Try making scratch sprites. You know, making sprites entirely by yourself, pixel by pixel, without using any other sprite to help. It may suck at first, but there's no better way to improve. Fusions and recolors won't get you anywhere, I know this by experience.
