  • Haha, well, I always thought you needed to make your own sprites. I'd imagine, though, that the programs to make the games already come with some built-in ones.

Ughhh, my life isn't that entertaining, unfortunately, LOL. I really don't even know what else I do except for study most of the time. I just recently started playing Far Cry 3 for the Xbox, but I haven't played since Friday because I haven't had time. It's a pretty good game so far, and the intro was amazing. Have you played it? I spend most of my life browsing FB, Instagram, texting, and chatting with some buddies online from when I used to clan on Runescape, hahaha. :p Hbu?
I wouldn't mind trying to make a simple hack at first, but I wouldn't be able to create any character sprites or anything of that nature at all because, well, my artistic side has never wanted to cooperate with me, haha. x)

I wouldn't want to try out something super difficult at first, though, because I'd just get frustrated and end up leaving what I've started unfinished.
I think some ROM hacks can be put onto GBA/DS cartridges (which is why some player-made ones are sold in China and stuff).

It seems simple, but there's probably a lot involved. I might test my luck at making a ROM hack using the guides and tools available here at PC. It doesn't hurt, right? How long would you say it takes?
You mean like make one and put it on a physical cartridge?

I'd assume that to even make a game you'd need a bunch of high-tech technology/programs, and a computer, of course, so wouldn't it be similar to making a ROM hack? :O

That's an awesome idea, though, especially if you're capable of doing it.
Oooo, that's interesting to hear. :p

I've never made a hack, but lately, I've been interested in trying my luck at making one. I just feel like there's so much you have to work with. It seems quite difficult. I think I'd have the patience but not the time. I'm also an amateur, so I'm sure I'd need a team, too, ha.
I agree. The first two years of college should not consist of having to take general education classes. It's a waste of time.

Have you ever tried making a Pokémon ROM hack? :o
Ahhh. General ed classes suck. I understand having to take the basics like English, Math, Science, whatever, but we don't need humanities, art, music, whatever other crap if we're not majoring in those areas. Taking all those classes don't make a well-rounded student.. they are just annoying.

That's awesome that you're almost there! I wish I could say the same. I'm pretty much just taking the classes I need to be able to transfer to a four year university to start the core of my major.

One year of English isn't too bad (assuming that consists of two 1 semester courses?). I had enough with two composition classes. I know, though, that the worst is yet to come in terms of writing when it comes to my major. I just can't wait (>.<) to write a ton of research papers!
Yeah, I understand what you mean. It'd probably end up becoming a group effort anyways if you wanted the game to be patented/published.

It's funny because I'm not bad at writing or anything. Frankly, and I don't mean to gloat or anything, but I was probably one of the best students in both my composition classes. I can produce great works, but I am just not motivated enough to write about boring stuff like literature, etc. I could probably sit here and write about a virus or bacteria any day, or something that interests me, for that matter, but write about Shakespeare's life? Ugh, no. I had to write a 15-page research paper on one of my "most inspirational" Romantic writers, and yeah, I did it, and I got an 'A' on it, but I had to start it like the first week of class because I knew I was going to dread every minute of it. Luckily, though, I finished it within about 10 weeks (she gave us 15 to do it), haha.

Are you still doing general education credits, or have you already started classes for your major?
Everything comes naturally to us when we enjoy what we're doing. Seriously, I hateeeeeeee writing essays . You don't even understand. I dreaded every day of both English comp 1 and 2, and I still have a few more general ed. classes to go which require a lot of writing, like humanities, speech, etc. God, help me, please. Luckily, they're not full on composition classes, haha. But, yeah, we're on the same page when it comes to that, lol.

I didn't know it was the second highest! That's pretty interesting. I mean, it's kinda expected, too, given the fact that if a game gets popular, millions of copies get sold worldwide and tons of money is made. I like your outlook on things, though. Do you think you would be able to develop a game by yourself, though? I mean, you'd probably also need a team, too, lol.

Hopefully things turn out like that for you. :] I'd assume you'd need some good connections if you were going to work on your own. Who knows, though, maybe you'll change your mind and get employed by a big company right out of college or something. :p That'd be awesome if the game you made got big and you became like a millionaire or something. Gotta always look at the bright side, ha.
Technically, the fall term was my first semester and I started with 16 to see if I was capable of doing it. It was a lot, but I managed. Most people do 15 each semester anyways. I could have probably continued doing 15+ but I also wanted to have a life other than school, although even now school still consumes a lot of time from my life.

At the end of the day I don't have the energy to do anything productive, either, haha. I just want to browse PC, watch YT vids, and play games, of course. I can't wait till it's over so I can just get on with life and start my career. :\ I think we all look forward to the days we're done with school.

& that's pretty cool that you're majoring in Software Engineering. It's a tough major from what I've heard. I've always wanted to become a game developer, but I saw it as more of a "hobby-type" job, although it definitely is probably a super tough job and also one that pays very well if you get employed with a decent company. You also most certainly need a lot of training and education to do the job well. Good luck with the major. <3
Hey, sorry for the extremely late response, lol. I went to sleep a few minutes before you posted that.

I started in the 6-week summer term of 2012 and did 6 credits then. In the fall I did 16 and now I'm doing 12 because I decided I wanted to relax a little more this semester.

I'll hopefully have 34 credits by the end of this semester. I plan on always doing the summer terms, so I guess I don't have to necessarily do the maximum during the fall and spring terms.
Not much; on the train to Brighton as im doing some babysitting for a friend who had a kid like 4 months ago. Just offering a little favour since she and her husband can't get out much.
Ahh, yeah, he was telling me through VM a few days ago how he was really busy with his new job, finding a new place to live, etc.

My major is in Biology, but I just recently started college last summer. I only have 22 credits now. I'm just starting the core science courses which I need. I'll definitely be in school a lot longer in the upcoming semesters because labs take up a lot of time. What's your major? :)
I actually only have about two hours of class each day, so it's not too bad. It's just the studying and homework that takes time. :|

Everything becomes not boring when you have plenty of things to do for school, right? :p

I miss Andy's (SR) wonderful and frequent posts in the LGBT thread. :[ It's too bad he's busy with life, lol. >.<
I'm doing pretty well. Kinda slacking on what I'm supposed to be doing, which is studying and finishing up on some homework, but nonetheless, I guess I'll have time this weekend.

    How are you? :)
I'm doing well, trying to get some school stuff done for this week! xD

& thanks! I like posting in it because I can relate to you all like you all can relate to me, and I want members/guests browsing the forums to know there's a place on here where they can chat and get to know people just like them, hopefully giving them motivation to actually join and start posting. :p

Anyways, just wanted to say hi. :D
