Did you try a different type of SD card? 3DS supports SDHC/micro SDs with an adapter, that's what I'm currently using in mine. Edit: Of course if that doesn't make a difference, then there's probably something up with the system itself.

Bikes for the win, BUT it is rather annoying that you don't come out on your bike again after entering a building (or something similar). It'd be better if we could switch between using the circle pad for the bike/skates with the L/R buttons, or something like that.
