Bulbasaur is the safest option. Remember Totodile is weak to grass types. Chimchar is awesome but it's weak to water types of which Totodile is and if you lose then you lose all of what you have.

battle shinx and capture it. a good electric type early on in the pokemon games is a rare thing. i personally wouldn't pass it up.

I say we train our pokemon. We can easily catch much better pokemon later on and our pokemon is strong enough to take alot down with just the help of a few backup potions.
