Yes. The Fire Red rom must be clean or you'll face a thousand bugs. Use Lunar IPS to patch the Liquid Crystal .ips into it and you're good to go.

Are you doing it right? I mean have you patched a clean fire red rom with the .ips provided here? By your description it seems like you're trying to run the .ips file itself. If that's the case it won't work.

I'm playing it on Gameboid and everything was super fine until I traded poliwag for a mareep at cherrygrove PC... it's receiving "boosted" experience and leveling up like crazy. Any ideas why it happens, so I can maybe work on a solution? Thanks. edit: nevermind, I guess that's supposed to happen.

Well I figured out how to edit the names and moves to the default upper-case characters. Took me an hour. May I ask for what reason someone decapitalized them making them totally out of place with the rest of the game? I mean poke names in game world are still upper-case, as well as moves...

It's been a long time since I played this, and now that i'm hooked up at it again I must say it has improved a lot. Awesome work LaZ. Just one stupid small thing... why in the world are the pokemon names and attacks decapitalized? It looks just weird, man... any chance I can change that...
