I recently got into ROM hacks (mainly by playing great ones like the Ruby Destiny series and Prism), and I became interested in how they were made.
I looked more into it a few days ago, and from then on became set on beginning to teach myself.
So...
No, they never get anything more than the other Pokémon.
My infernape on Platinum, for example. It's trained at the same pace as every other Pokémon on my team. It doesn't get any more vitamins, TM's,...or whatever else there is that I'm forgetting.

I chose cyndaquil. I've always adored it, since GSC. I've never been one for totodile, and I sometimes pick chikorita.
Overall, though, I usually always go with cyndaquil.
I adore electric and dark types, so the popular ones for me were Pikachu/Zapdos(Red/Yellow), Ampharos/Umbreon (Gold/Silver), Manectric/Mightyena(Sapphire/Emerald), and Luxray/Alamos Darkrai(Diamond/Platinum). So, the fact that I had an ampharos throughout my gold/silver/crystal days was because...
Well, during the first generation, I always went with Jolteon, because I loved electric types, and Jolteon looked the coolest out of all three of the evolutions. When the second generation came out, I instantly fell in love with Espeon, and it's been my favorite evolution since.

I'll definitely play with only the Black and White Pokemon. I want to explore the newest additions and look at all of the new evolutions and surprises. After that, I may look into mixing some of my older teams in as well, but probably not.
