Just hatched 2 Oshawott eggs, and previously before that caught a Wigglytuff. I didn't really go looking for it, but I thought it would save me the trouble of evolving the family to fill the pokedex ^^

I picked Oshawott for my starter, so I got Pansear. Like you said, that early in the game he was really only useful for the gym battle then he got banked. There are much better pokes just a bit further in the game that beat the monkeys hands down, Darumaka for instance.
