Hey just started my first ROM hack on the firered ROM base entitled Pokemon Eternity. I'm using the old school method of Pokescript, which has worked great for me. When I first learned about hacking, I thought it would be impossible. But I learned a lot, especially from Foullump's scripting tutorials, and now my hack is progressing nicely.
