As a person, totally not against giving Snowden asylum, I think it's great someone finally did, I think Snowden did what he thought was best to protect people's privacy.
Now, as a Venezuelan, I seriously don't get why Maduro would make such a move, the relationship between Venezuela and the USA has been very weird for the last 15 years, you see, most of our oil is sold to USA Companies and while USA doesn't really have much to say about Venezuela, both Chavez and his followers have continuously insulted and implied that the US is corrupt, that they are ruining the world, they are being evil and have blamed internal problems of the country on the USA and those who oppose Chavez...
Chavez appeared many times on national live television not just talking bad about the USA, but insulting the presidents, their decisions and just about anything they did. Nonetheless, Venezuela has never ceased to sell the USA oil nor do anything more than literally talk **** about North Americans and their ways.
What I'm concerned about is: How is doing that going to affect Venezuela? Will it make the oil prices fall? Our economy would finally reach it's lowest point and the whole country would just fall apart. Currently elected Venezuelan politicians are just hypocrites and boot lickers.
Clients of Venezuela (Oil)
Our politicians have already used this kind of strategies to take the people attention's away from the current situation in Venezuela, to me this is nothing more but Maduro trying to win people's heart by taking Snowden in OR he's just doing stuff so that people will talk about that and not other things, like for example the Toilet Paper fiasco, and Toilet Paper is not the only product we are not getting enough of.
Even when I think this is the noble thing to do and take Snowden in, there's the possibility that it will backfire and hurt our country more than we could help him anyways. Staying in Venezuela means he might not get killed or imprisoned by the USA, but it also means he could be a victim of our insecurity and social problems.

While I do agree the USA has some problems and I would not like to live there and that I am against MANY things the US does, I don't believe going on national television insulting them is the best way to portray that I don't agree with your rules, laws and decisions, I have yet to see a north american politician going on TV and saying things like "**** you Venezuelans, **** you Chavez"

Our politicians are just a lot of talk and little actions, and while they claim internationally that they always call for peace and that are not corrupt and that socialism is the way to fix society and the world, they use venezuelan money for their own means and people that lives in Venezuela are very aware that many assassinations have been made under the command of the past president Chavez and the mostly elected Maduro.
Our politic situation is not well understood nor well known outside Venezuela, nor is there much information on english out there, for some reason Chavez and his whole movement is seen by people around the world as some kind of hero or savior, they just haven't lived the chaos, the violence and the unfairness from our system.
..............
tl;dr
Awesome that someone took Snowden in
I think this will backfire on Venezuela on the long run, and if it does, we're in deep trouble, politically and economically.
