[ PRESS START ]

It's been several years ever since the events of Pokémon Emerald took place. Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza have returned to their eternal slumber in hidden sectors within the landmass, and the region of Hoenn has fallen into a state of peace and prosperity. More and more challengers are rising up as they try to take on both the Hoenn League and the contest scene - natives to the island and tourists alike -. Young trainers are appearing in droves each looking to achieve their goals and realize their every ambition. And you are one such trainer, a young male or female from Lavaridge Town or small settlements nearby, and you are about to begin your own journey. You will experience fierce battles, view captivating contests and take on many other challengers as you seek to fulfil your dreams – whatever they happen to be.

[ GAMEPLAY. NOPE, NO FUNNY TITLE HERE. NOT AT ALL ]

Progress: The role play will be broken into several chapters, starting with the first beginning in Lavaridge Town. The length of chapters will vary but the general progress mechanic will be that small-average length routes will take a full IC day to traverse whilst landmarks such as Mt. Chimney and long routes may take up to several IC days.

Goals/Aims: Whilst chapters will be structured assuming that characters will be challenging the Hoenn regions gyms it is not mandatory for characters to have defeating the league as their goal. The focus of this Role Play will be on the individual goals of each character whatever they may be.

Pokémon: To create a better flow and more interesting environment in the role play levels will not exist in this RP. Rather evolutions or the appearance of evolutionary items (trade evolutions will not exist) will be decided by a GM. Similarly, whilst a wild pokemon's moves will be chosen by the RPer (otherwise it would be impossible to not have levels) the abilities of pokemon will be chosen at the discretion of GMs as will opportunities to learn new moves.

Players will be able to encounter wild pokemon at will, however posts are required to end at the capture attempt (this is negotiable for story line purposes but discuss it with me first). The success of the capture (and as such the ability of the captured pokemon) is also to be determined by a GM – in general most captures will be successes but if there is a good reason then they may not be.

The limit of pokemon to a team will be six however Professor Birch and Brendon will look after any extras and swap team members with those "stored" via PCs in the style of the anime (having seen it is not going to be required in the slightest). Whilst to begin with no Generation Six pokemon will be included this role play utilises the Gen 6 type chart.

Update: We will now be including Gen 6 pokemon as wild pokemon available to be caught.

Interaction: You can interact with each other and create NPCs at will. All gym leader battles will also be NPCs (but they will have predetermined teams).

[ RULES. RULES? RULES! ]

  1. GM word is law (especially mine)
  2. Don't god mod and don't bunny without permission
  3. Don't encounter legendries without first discussing it with me.
  4. Don't request gen six pokemon until the full dex is released.
  5. Don't go ahead of chapters.
  6. Only one person can challenge a gym at a time (because logic).
  7. Try to post once a week. We are sympathetic to various circumstances but we would like you to try and adhere to this rule.
  8. You will notice that this RP has an "M" rating. This is to allow the maximum amount of freedom for plotlines. Please don't abuse this rating though.
  9. Do be respectful and try to have fun.

[ CHAPTERS ]
1. The Journey Begins
2. Taking The Heat
3. The Road to Mauville

[ GAME-MASTERS ]
Gimmepie (myself) and Scyke. We both live in different time zones, so chances are that one of us will be on to address any problems that come up. Furthermore, most decisions we make will be collaborative - so you can be assured that everything will be as fair as it can be.

[ ACCEPTED CHARACTERS ]
1. Aya Ingvar with Axew as starter (Gimmepie)
2. Akito Sasaki with Heracross as starter (TD)
3. Albert "AJ" Johnson with Shuppet as starter (TheZenTraveller)

Chapter One: The Journey Begins

Lavaridge Town and Jagged Pass

Lavaridge_Town_anime.png

Lavaridge Town, where, for better or worse, your journey as a trainer begins. Whatever your motivations are in this chapter you will receive your starter (unless of course you received it prior to the beginning of the RP), and you will be able to interact with your fellow beginning trainers, explore the town and prepare for the treacherous journey ahead.

Lavaridge town is a fairly small town sitting below Mt. Chimney's peak, on an expanse of volcanic mountain land. Lavaridge is famous for its iconic volcanic hot springs that are located nearby the town's pokecentre and ash will sometimes fall over the town from the nearby volcano, but this is rather rare. Flannery, the former gym leader of the town is currently a member of the elite four. Some notable locations include;

• The Hot Springs – These hot springs, located nearby the PC (as stated), draw a fairly decent amount of tourists looking to relax to Lavaridge and are often enjoyed by the locals too. Many also being covered in the hot sands near the springs.

• The Lavaridge Research Lab – Whilst home to many volcanologists studying the nearby Mt. Chimney, the LRL primarily specialises in studying the pokemon that live in the volcanic area, especially fire-types.

• Lavaridge Pokemon Centre – Like all PCs it is a large white building with a distinctive red roof. The pokecentre's staff are responsible for maintaining the Hot Springs

• The Lookout – Recently constructed the lookout is a large platform attached to the cliff by Lavaridge Town. It provides a view of the rocky cliffs below the region all the way across to the nearby route 112.

• Pokemart – Whilst many places have been making switches to Unova's set-up with a joined Pokecentre/Pokemart, Lavaridge retains its traditional set-up. The store is not as well-equipped as nearby Mauville City but receives more than enough to serve the purposes of beginner trainers.

Once you have been around Lavaridge a little and prepared to leave you can then progress north to Jagged Pass. Jagged Pass is a steep, mountainous route that leads up towards mount chimney. Steep ledges frequently occur on the route and sometimes it will be necessary to climb or go around them. Trainers from Lavaridge get something of a more difficult beginning to their journey but it may well pay off for them in the long run – it is a good way to toughen yourselves up and to get some hardy first catches for your journey. The pokemon available on Jagged Pass are;
• Snubble
• Teddiursa
• Tailow
• Starly
• Geodude
• Spoink
• Numel
• Machop

IC Days to complete chapter: Approximately 1-1.5 (Chapter ends at the top of Mt. Chimney).

Dava Lalonde 1.1

Team
Spoiler:

The morning they were supposed to set off on the road together, Dava rose up early. She hurriedly took a quiet shower, got dressed and fixed up and grabbed her gear, which consisted of a gray, waterproof canvas backpack. Carefully tripping through the corridor between the rooms on the second floor of the house, she stopped to listen at her twin sister's door. When their aunt had moved in, she had made sure that they got separate rooms. Every teenage girl needs that!

Dani didn't make a sound from inside, so Dava carefully opened the door up and tip-toed up to her bed with a devious smile and a little note in her hand. Tehehe. Dani wouldn't expect this. Dava would set off before her, on her own.

Just as she put the note down on the sidetable, she saw another note already lying there. Only this was in blue paper, as opposed to Dava's pink paper. She picked it up, curiously.

"Dear sister. I know you will likely try to sneak away before me in the morning, so I got up even earlier and sneaked away before that. See you on the road one day. Good luck!"

A roar echoed through the quaint neighborhood and the blue note and the pink one were soon lying crumbled together in the waste-bin under Dani's desk.

Half an hour later, Dava was finally out of the house too. No need to hurry with breakfast when her sister was already gone. It wasn't like she was going to hurry up to the Jagged Pass just to try and catch her. Nope. She would enjoy the sights of Lavaridge one last time before she set off. Who knew, maybe it would take quite some time before she saw her hometown again.

At the belt on her hips sat one, shiny pokéball. The girl sighed as she thought about it. Why had she given up dear, sweet Mareep Princess to her sister? Then again, if Dani actually had some success in contests, Princess could be a star. That would be lovely for her. As for Prince...

Her feet had automatically walked downtown and made their way towards the Lookout. Recently constructed, the lookout was a large platform attached to a big cliff by Lavaridge Town. Dava and Dani had loved to stand there when they were younger and view the rocky cliffs below them, all the way across to Route 112 in the distance. This morning, Dava was alone when she reached the top and leaned against the railing. Too early for tourists and it wasn't the most fun place for townsfolk who had been here a thousand times already.

Gazing north, she saw the peak of Mt Chimney towering above them. No ashes in the air today - the air was as clean as ever. Most often, the winds blew the ashes further north instead. It was said that there was a town completely covered in constant ash rain. Dava couldn't imagine it, and sure as hell wouldn't like to go there.

To the south, many more towns and cities lay. She would visit them on her journey. Soon enough... Prince's pokéball shuddered on her belt, suddenly.

"Waking up, are we?" Dava asked it.

She should make an effort to wake up properly herself, too. Still too early to set off after Dani. She wouldn't want to risk meeting her on the very first route... What if she had actually captured some pokémon already? She really didn't want her cheerful, well liked sister to be more successful than she was. And if she was, she sure didn't want to see it. Now it was Dava's turn to shudder. Maybe she needed a warm bath.

A few minutes later, Dava sunk her bath-suit clad body down into the hot waters of the main tourist attraction of the town: the Hot Springs Resort. Thaaat's more like it. Since her father worked here, she was allowed to come and go freely. Employee's perk.

By the side of the water, on a stone, sat the Elekid's pokéball. Dava had brought it because she wanted him to come out and have a bath too. Dani hadn't been to the Hot Springs in years, so Prince probably had never tried it. Princess, though, often followed Dava here. It took some time for her to learn to control the static in her fluffy wool enough to not shock everyone else in the water, but eventually they got it right. Prince had no static wool, just some horns and claws, from what Dava knew. Hm. She probably should try to learn his attacks. She would become a trainer, after all.

Auugh. She sunk deeper down into the water until only her nose and eyes were above the surface. A trainer. There probably weren't any Hot Springs in other cities along the road. Or out in the routes, for that matter. She might have to go days without showering. The horror!

A sudden noise made her head plop up from the water. She caught a glimpse of light in the corner of her eye and turned to see an Elekid standing on the stone next to her.

"Prince!" she exclaimed.

He had finally come out, and was now eyeing the girl suspiciously with his small, narrow eyes. Dava decided to play it friendly. She needed him to be her ally, at least until she caught some pokémon of her own.

"So we'll be going together from now on," she said casually and leaned back in the bath against a cliff near him. "Care for a hot bath to warm up on this lovely day?"

Prince stood still for a second, then turned around and walked away from the water. Dava scoffed and crossed her arms, staring back down into the water. Be that way, then.

But suddenly, quick footsteps were heard, stopped, and... SPLASH! Dava jumped up with a scream. Prince had just bombed the water and now resurfaced with a gleeful smile on his face.

"You little monster!" the girl screamed and splashed water at him.

He took that as a challenge. Still with the smile, he kicked with his feet to stay afloat while he began spinning his arms like turbines in the water. Loads of water splashed up at the girl, who had to get out of the water up onto the stones to avoid getting drowned.

"Oh, how dare you! I'll show you."

She leaped out, curling her body into a ball in the air and landed just beside the electric pokémon with an even bigger splash than his bomb had caused before. When Dava resurfaced, she laughed hard.

"Beat that!" she said and looked around. "Prince?"

He was nowhere to be seen, until a light glimpsed in the water underneath her. Flashback memories from incidents with the Mareep in the Hot Springs made a warning signal go off in her, and faster than she could think, she was out of the water again, throwing herself up to lay on the stone floor. Seconds later, the whole water crackled from electricity and the Elekid came back up to the surface. His horns crackled once more as the pokémon panted for air. His smile had turned more devious as he stared at his new so called trainer.

She stared back. Determinedly. He was toying with her, testing her limits. She had to draw the line early. This pokémon wasn't frail and careful like Princess had been. Prince was a rascal, not properly raised by Dani, apparently.

"Don't shock humans," she said and sat up, no trace of joking in her voice. "It's dangerous to us. We're not strong in the same way you pokémon are."

Prince kept facing her stare for a moment, then looked away and jumped up from the water. He sat down next to his pokéball and closed his eyes, as if meditating. Dava decided that they had finished bathing for this time.

At lunchtime, they went home again. Dad wasn't home, but Dava's aunt was. She made food for the two of them as well as the pokémon. He didn't look Dava in the eyes for the whole time they were eating, but Dava didn't care. She guessed what was going on inside of him. Maybe he tried to show some defiance now that she had told him off. Well, that wouldn't work. She was his master now and she'd show him how to behave if he wanted to become a strong pokémon.

The Pokémart was their next stop. Dava bought some Potions and Pokéballs that would come in handy on their journey. Emma also followed them there to buy some things of her own. Dava was curious - Emma had never had a pokémon of her own before, so why would she need to visit the Pokémart? Apparently, some people at the Hot Springs had found a pokémon egg buried in the sand there. Emilio had taken it home, not wanting to care for a pokémon alone, and Emma had felt up to the task. They were thrilled to see what the egg contained, and the aunt promised to call Dava about it as soon as it hatched.

After that, Dava couldn't really come up with a good reason to stick around anymore. She had to leave Lavaridge Town, at last. Prince was back inside his pokéball, mostly to ensure that he didn't try to escape back to their house or onwards towards the scent of Dani or something. With nervous steps but a determined face, Dava finally entered what was known as the Jagged Pass in the afternoon.

Spoiler:

Hmmm…you can see part of route 112 from here… Lyssa used her hand as a visor as she looked off the balcony of the lookout point. There were a couple of binoculars available, but she really didn't feel like inserting a coin or two just to use them. Chimchar jumped up from the ground onto the ledge of the balcony next to Lyssa. "Nice view, isn't it?" She said. Chimchar didn't say anything, but just stood there gazing into the distance. It was almost looked as if it were going to just fall off the balcony from admiration. Lyssa didn't really want to go anywhere yet, but she knew the longer she stayed, the longer it would take to get back home. "Should we get going Chimchar?" She looked at Chimchar, who just turned its head at Lyssa, but didn't again, didn't say anything. After a few seconds it jumped back down next to her feet. "Alright, in you go." Lyssa took out a Pokball and pressed the button which shot out a red light, striking Chimchar and retreating it back into its Pokeball. She put the Pokeball away in her bag, and proceeded to walk down a flight of stairs, which spiralled downward back to the base of the lookout.

Wandering through the aisles, Lyssa held in her hands a potion and burn heal. She figured it would come in handy in case she needed it, if something came along and there wasn't a Pokemon Center or resting stop nearby. I think that's it…there's not much here that I think I would find helpful. There wasn't much in this Mart, just basic necessities, but for Lyssa, that would be more than enough. "I'll just take these." She walked up to the checkout counter and placed her items down in front of the clerk. He man nodded as he scanned each item. Lyssa took out some money from her bag, and placed it on the counter in front of the clerk. Grabbing her things and placing them in her bag, she casually walked out of the PokeMart, opening the doors to Lavaridge Town. She stood outside, taking in a deep breath and looking into the blue sky. Alright, I think I'm ready. Pokeballs, Pokemon, and some first-aid supplies. All checked and ready to go.

Spoiler:

Nylea sat up in her bed and yawned blinking tiredly. "Ros.." she started to say before stopping. I'm in Lavaridge remember. Rosa is back home with mom and dad she thought sighing. Getting up Nylea showered quickly and dressed for the day. Fifteen minutes later she was walking out of the Pokemon Center with a full belly and a vulpix walking by her side. "I haven't thought of a name for you yet Vulpix. Maybe I'll let Rosa pick one for you" she said softly as her PokéNav started to ring. "Morning mother" Nylea said answering the device.

"Good morning Nylea, I'm handing my PokéNav to Rosa" her mothers voice rang in her ears through the device. Before a new voice was heard.

"Hi Mommy"

"Good morning baby, mommy misses you. Are you being good for Nana?" Nylea asked entering the Pokemart passing by a girl her age that also had black hair.

"yes Mommy" Rosa's voice chimed and Nylea smiled paying for five pokeballs and five potions.

"Rosa do you want to choose a name for Mommy's vulpix?" she asked leaving the Pokemart.

"How about Blossom mommy!" Nylea grinned hearing how excited her daughter was.

"Blossom it is then, I love you Rosa" Nylea said sititng under a tree.

"I love you too Mommy"

"Bye baby, I'll call you tonight" Nylea said before hanging up and putting the PokéNav in her bag. I'm doing this for her she thought opening her locket and smiling at the picture of her child. Looking down at her vulpix who was sitting by her feet Nylea smiled again. "ready to go Blossom?" she asked standing up chuckling as Blossom bounced around excitedly. "let's go then"

Blaine Byron Berk - Chapter 1 - Part 1

Team
Spoiler:

Stored Pokemon
Spoiler:

Two men strode into Lavaridge Town with grins on their faces. The two of them seemed to be joking around with each other, playfully pushing one another around. One was a good deal older than the other, and seemed to be a middle aged man. He was wearing blue jeans, a green tee shirt, and and was sporting a nicely shaved bald head. The other seemed to be a young adult, adorned in black jeans, a black tank top, a white long-sleeved button up unbuttoned and the sleeves rolled up neatly, and a head of long, spiky black hair.

The pair continued to goof off until they reached the PokeMart. The older sighed and looked down at his young companion. The pair just stood silently for a moment, looking at each other. After a moment the older broke the silence. "I'm gonna miss you son."

The younger smiled. "I'm gonna miss you too, dad." He felt sad. It wasn't often that he had to say goodbye to anyone, no matter how long. "I know I'm going to be gone for a while...Tell Mom I love her." He felt a tear well up in his eye. "I promise I'll win. I'll be the very best. For the both of us." His father never had the opportunity to embark upon his own journey, a great damper on his spirit. "Me and Apollo...We'll beat 'em all." He held out his hand in diplomacy.

His father smiled and took his hand. "I know you will, son. You've always been a good boy, and an even better man." The compliment sparked a forgotten emotion in the boy: Embarrassment. The man let go of his son's hand. "Listen...I know you're mother isn't happy about this...but I think you should follow your dreams. I never got to, and I don't want you to go through that."

"I know, dad."

"Listen...I love you son."

"I love you too dad." The pair embraced. They finally let go a moment or two later.

The older man began to walk away with a smile on his face. Before he was out of earshot, he turned back to his son. "I love you, Blaine."

--------------

Blaine walked out of the PokeMart, his bag now filled with five pokeballs, four potions, a few antidotes, and a paralyze or two. He filled his nose with the fresh, clean air of Lavaridge town, and exhaled with a smile. Today my adventure starts. Today, I become a man. He took the one occupied pokeball from his belt and pressed the button in the center, enlarging it. "Go, Apollo!"

He chucked the red and blue ball, and it opened to release a red flash that took the form of a red monster. "Mag! Magby!" The small red pokemon ran behind his trainer's legs, cowering in fear.

Blaine laughed and reached down to pet his little buddy's head. "Don't worry little man. I got you. I'm here for you." Apollo seemed to calm down a bit, and began to scan the area of the town. Blaine couldn't help but smile brightly with the Magby still cowering behind him. "Today, we start our journey. It'll be fun. Trust me."

Hark Rense - Chapter 1 - Part 1
Team
Spoiler:

Gadgets
Spoiler:

Beep Beep Beep Beep! Filled Hark's ears as his alarm tried to alert him to the start of another day. Not just any day, but the day marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life. One where he didn't live any longer in this small tourist trap, but instead one where he can really start looking to find a way to better advance his knowledge and truly start creating things that would usher a new age for humanity! Hark hit the snooze button and rolled over, much to the human's race dismay Hark didn't feel like getting out of his overly comfortable bed. "Why is it that the bed is only this comfortable when I have to get up?" thought the teenager as he drifted back off to sleep.

An hour and a half later Hark was woken up by his mother banging on his locked door yelling franticly, "Harky is time to get up! You're running late you slept in!" Muttering to himself about how he shouldn't have stayed up till four in the morning adding the finishing touches to his to his mechanical arm, Hark emerged from the covers and grabbed some clothes to put on just as his dad unlocked the door letting his frantic mother him.

"I told you not to lock the door," said his father as sternly as he could, despite his huge grin. His mother didn't say a word as she quickly found his backpack and began filling it with supplies and clothes. She wanted to remove all the items Hark had already put in there like many of his tools and some of his nowhere near complete projects, but she knew better than to try since he would just put them back. "Son you realize all the good Pokemon are going to be gone by the time you get there," said his father who just stood there with a proud look on his face.

"Then I'll beat everyone with a weaker Pokemon then," muttered Hark in a continuation of his lie. His parents thought he was going to try in restart his career as a trainer. He was going to get a Pokemon it was only going to be a temporary solution for protection, until he had the machines and weapons for his defense then he could get rid of the Pokemon. His fake response only seemed to make his father prouder of him as he put on his remaining shoe.

"That's my boy," said his father handing him the backpack his mother had just finished packing with several "essential" pokemon training items like extra pokeballs and potions. Minutes later Hark was walking out the door of his home for one last time. Out of the corner of his eye, Hark caught his father's Gardevoir glaring at him as she washed some dishes. She blamed Hark for the death of her son and was unwilling to let it go, and glare would not be one Hark would miss.

Continuing out the door Hark breathed the unusually fresh air with a grin. Looking down at his right arm, he made a sudden movement with his fist and the top of the machine popped open. In a mere second a blade had extended out and locked into place. He quickly made another gesture and the blade retracted back into its casing. He was going to rock this world to its core, and he would lay the framework for progress. He then put on his sunglasses and started forward toward the small Trainers academy in the middle of the small town with a sense of pride and purpose.

When Hark arrived there were only a few Pokeballs left, and by the time it was his turn to pick there was a merger three remaining. Stepping up to the table for his Pokemon Hark looked uninterested with the encouraging and energetic words of the lady, who was handing Hark a Pokedex and trainer card. She explained all the wonderful things that were waiting for Hark in his adventure and how his first Pokemon would be a companion for life, and blah blah blah. Hark decided he had enough since he had heard this speech when she had given it to the other kids in front of him in the line. Without invitation he stepped up and grabbed the middle Pokeball and began to walk off. "Wait don't you want to hear about your choice in Pokemon or the other ones?" asked the woman shocked at the boy's behavior.

"No, I honestly don't care what Pokemon I have… it's a means to an end," replied Hark as he walked out of the large glass doors with haste. "Time to get out of his town," muttered Hark as he began to look at his Pokedex with interest as he slowly walked away from the building. He first looked at the device itself then began to shift through the information (or lack of at this point) stored on it. He then stuffed it in the front main khaki pocket and started toward the steep Jagged Pass.

Approaching the pass he looked up it while thinking of the best way up. There are a much longer but easier way up the mountain that most tourists took, or there was the direct but hard mountain climb. He could climb the pass without too much trouble, but it would take a lot of effort and he was still a little tired. While considering his route up the mountain he also walked into some kid and his red Pokemon that looked strange. He should know what type it was but he never paid much attention to Pokemon types. Hearing the boy's words of encouragement for his cowardly Pokemon Hark rolled his eyes and hoped this kid didn't turn out to be one of those over enthusiastic trainers who would challenge him on the spot.

Aya Ingvar - Chapter One - Part One

Aya's Team

Spoiler:

Aya awoke to the warmth of the early morning sunlight flowing in through her window, curled up in the foetal position under the sheets of her cosy bed. Groaning and brushing sleep from her eyes she pushed herself up to be sitting and looked around the room that she wouldn't be seeing again for a long time. It wasn't particularly large, but was far from tiny containing her double bed, a desk (with overhanging shelves) that was piled with books, a small standing mirror, a single set of cupboards and her bedside table, upon which sat a small red and white sphere. The pokeball containing Ladon, her Axew.

Aya rose from the comfort of her bed and was soon showered, dressed and groomed as much as was needed before heading down the pine staircase that led to the lower floor of her house. She entered the kitchen dining room where the stair came down to find her grandparents already awake and enjoying their morning coffee.
"Mornin' Aya" her grandfather grinned at her from across the table, he seemed to be more excited about her journey than she was. Her grandmother was slightly more concerned, but proud of Aya none the less.
"Good morning" Aya responded, grabbing cereal for herself before sitting across from them. For a while they just idly talked but the minutes were drawing on, and as much as she wouldn't want to admit it to her grandparents – she hated that all the enthusiastic early risers would be ahead of her. They seemed to know regardless though because she soon found herself outside of her house with her satchel swung over her shoulder and her grandparents tearfully waving goodbye from the doorstep.

***

Walking further into the town Aya looked around, she felt as though she should remain for a while and take one last look at the place. But she had no need for supplies as she had already been packed for days, Ladon was in perfect health and she had no intention of dawdling at the hot springs or lookout where she had been numerous times. Releasing Ladon from his pokeball she looked down at the little green dragon to question him
"What should we do?"
"Axew!" Ladon, had already started off in the direction of the lookout. For reasons unbeknownst to Aya it was his favourite location in Lavaridge, and she had to admit that she loved it herself even if it got boring fairly quickly. After a few minutes, she was climbing the wooden steps up to the top of the structure, Ladon cradled in her arms and soon enough she found herself leaning against the railing. In the distance she could see Route 112 where she herself would be in the near future.
"We'll be going there soon" she said to the pokemon in her arms, Ladon staring intently over the edge.
"Axew!"

Nolan Richards - Chapter 1 - Part 1

Nolan sat on the eastern edge of town, looking out on to the route that lay before him, waiting. Today was the day he left this dead-beat town for good. There was no reason for him to stay, or anywhere for him to in fact. His parents had kicked him out that morning, saying they had had enough of his attitude and behaviour, so he was out. Good, he wanted to be out on his own anyway. Well...apart from his companion, Jackie.

A few moments later, he saw a shadow creeping along a tree branch and he knew immediately, it was Jackie. He always tried to sneak up on Nolan, ever since they first met. At first it had worked and Nolan had suffered many a flurry of Jackie's punches and kicks, but they were always playful, never malicious.

"Jackie, I can see you! There's no point trying...plus I'm kind of not in the mood right now" Nolan shouted over to the tree, trailing off towards the end. Jackie's purple form jumped out of the tree and he came over to Nolan with a puzzled expression on his face.

"Ty...tyrogue?" Jackie enquired, unsure of what had happened to make his best friend so downbeat.

"My parents kicked me out today Jackie..." Nolan said with some what of a sigh in his voice. He couldn't say he wasn't expecting it, but now that it had happened...

"TY!" Jackie's eyes seemed to burn with anger. Nolan's parents had never let Jackie in their house, they were worried that a wild Pokémon in their house could do untold damage. Plus, neither of his parents liked Pokémon all that much either. Jackie's anger seemed to assure Nolan that they had been pretty harsh, at least in somebody's eyes.

"Well Jackie, today's the day! We can finally leave this boring town and make something of ourselves, you ready?" Jason asked enthusiastically, already knowing the response he would get.

"TYROGUE!" Jackie shouted with happiness, nodding his head.

"Well, let's get going!" The pair set off around the edge of town, preferring each other's company, plus, there was no real reason to go into town. Nolan only had the clothes on his back and didn't have much money, so he was saving it for later. The only other thing he had in his possession was a shiny Pokéball he got from one of his crew as a sort of leaving gift, not that his friend would have acquired it in the most legitimate way.

***
After a few minutes, the pair had weren't far from reaching the entrance to Jagged Pass, the next leg off their journey. As they approached, Nolan saw a few other people around with Pokémon. They looked like they might be new trainers and Nolan didn't want a battle right now. It was his first day on his journey, he didn't want to get beaten already.

"Jackie, follow my lead", Nolan whispered to Jackie as they approached. Nolan swaggered over towards the entrance of Jagged Pass and the few trainer's around there.

"Coming through, losers!" Noan sniggered, more audibly than he would have liked, giving disapproving looks to those around him. He swaggered on, into Jagged Pass and he and Jackie began their assent of the pass.

Carl Bizarro - Chapter I - Part I
On To Jagged Pass!

Team

Spoiler:

Carl woke up somewhat confused. He was sharing a room with separate beds with his best friend and travelling partner Felicity, however she was not there. He checked the clock, and was surprised to see how early it was. That's odd... Felicity usually isn't awake at this time of the day... he thought as he groggily stepped out of bed. Very carefully he switched his pajamas with his shirt and pants, put his glasses on, and stepped out of the room.

He was feeling slightly dizzy at that moment, but it wasn't the first time that had happened and he knew that it would fade away after some minutes of walking. He went up to the receptionist and asked her if she knew where Felicity had run off to, but all she could say was she left the inn without saying a word, and that she looked very worried about something. With a smile, he politely thanked the receptionist and left the inn as well, having already figured out an answer to his question.

The hot springs were a few steps away from the inn they were staying at, and Carl made his way over there in almost no time. Having known Felicity for so long, she was probably either taking a bath in the hot water to relieve stress. Upon arriving, he spotted her buried in the hot sand. "Close enough." he said to himself and approached her.

"Hey, you okay?" he said to her.

Felicity was startled at first, but quickly realised it was Carl Bizarro, her travelling partner and calmed down. "Oh, Carl... Yeah, I'm fine..." she said calmly, "I was a little worried about something...but let me tell you...these springs...Ooh...They're miracle-makers! I feel as gooood as neeew..."

"Well, I'm glad to hear that. What were you worried about anyway?" he asked.

Felicity didn't want to answer that. She was worried about him. The time to split up and go their separate ways was coming, and she wasn't sure how to say it. And she was worried that with Carl's lack of experience with battling he could put himself in danger. What to say, what to say...

"Oh, just about your training...No biggie..." she said, calmly, with a relaxed smile on her face, "Say, Carl, I got an idea."

"Huh? What is it?" Carl said, surprised.

"I've been thinking...about the reason I gave you that Weedle..." she replied.

"Oh, yeah, Sting." Carl said, confused, "What about him?"

"Well, I think a greeeat way to train him would be going on a small trek alone with him. You two could bond and get stronger. What do you say?"

Carl was puzzled for a moment, "So you won't be coming along?" he asked. Felicity replied with a chuckle. "Not this time." he said, "But trust me, just like this sands are just great for me, this will be great for you... You'll get a whole lot stronger, trust me..." The skinny boy was hesitant, as he felt the two of them were somewhat symbiotic. But Felicity was right, it could help him get stronger and bond with Sting. The two hadn't grown very close and rarely battled.

"Okay, I'll do it." Carl said, reluctantly, "What place do you have in mind?"

"Well, near this town is a mountainous route known as Jagged Pass. It leads to Mt. Chimney. You should try getting to the top." she said relaxed. Carl opened his eyes wide in shock. "Mt. Chimney?! But isn't that a volcano?!" he said loudly, freaking out, "It's gonna be teeming with Fire-type Pokémon! Sting is a Bug-type Pokémon! Bugs are weak to fire! We won't stand a chance!"

"You'll do juuuust fiiiiine...trust meee..." Felicity said, getting more relaxed with every second, "You can do it."

Carl was very nervous. He had a very slim chance of getting to the top in a good condition. Sting could get burned, or could even faint! Then I'll be helpless! Felicity looked at him, he was very afraid of going there. "Oh, don't be such a baby!" she said, "Believe in yourself and Sting! You're very smart, you can pull it off!"

Carl nodded, and without saying a word, rushed back to the inn. Felicity giggled and bit her lower lip. This could also teach him that types aren't everything. There are a lot more things to battling than that. she thought. She was slightly worried about him, after all, he was going to a volcano, but she had the feeling he would be alright. The hot sands boosted that feeling, and she went back to relaxing there.

Some time later...

Felicity and Carl were standing at the entrance of Jagged Pass. Many people were coming in and out of the rocky route, and in Carl's eyes Felicity could see he was still hesitant to go. "Are you sure about this, Felicity?" he said quietly. "You'll do fine, silly! And if you feel like you need an extra aid, use those Pokéballs I gave you!" she said, "You do know how to catch a Pokémon, right?" she asked. Carl nodded. "I've seen you catch Sting...I think I can pull it off..." he said timidly. She giggled, "Then, off you go!" she said happily and gave him a hug. "I'll be sticking around town 'till you get back, okay? And don't forget to use Potions of your Pokémon are weak!"

"G-Got it!" Carl said, and took many small steps into the rocky road ahead. Boy, this is sure going to be tough. He looked behind, and saw Felicity motioning him to go forward, so he miked further into the route. In a matter of seconds the girl was out of Carl's sight. For the first time in a long while, he was on his own. Well, here I come...

Ken Darbin - Chapter One - Part 1

Team
Spoiler:

Ken found himself staring down at the pokéball now containing the pokémon he'd been taking caring of for almost a month. His mouth began twitching upwards before developing into a toothy grin as he was filled with the joy of owning his first pokémon. Whooping, he jumped into the air, filled with nervous energy; he looked around, feeling the beginnings of the desire to head back to town at a full sprint.

Ken paused, taking a deep breath, inhaling the damp scent of the mountains in the early morning. That was a monumentally bad idea. While he might've been able to sprint that distance, fifteen minutes at a decent jog, he was also on the side of a steep mountain, wearing flip-flops rather than the infinitely more useful hiking boots still in his room. Sighing, Ken began the walk back.

Soon, amid the largely ignored sounds of unseen pokémon making the noises of their daily lives, his mind began to drift back to the pokéball he'd stowed in one of the lower pockets of his pants. My own pokémon! He couldn't wait to show the little guy all his favorite haunts in the nearby area, as well as re-exploring most of them with someone to talk to who might be able to help him get to areas he'd never seen. As he was mentally mapping all the areas, he found himself thinking of Jagged Pass and Mount Chimney beyond, areas he'd not ever actually been to because of all the wild pokémon that inhabited the area.

Ken felt his grin returning. I have a pokémon. I can scope out that whole area; all of Jagged Pass to poke around in, Mount Chimney beyond, and… And all of Hoenn after that! His heart was racing as he considered the possibilities. He'd never been on a pokémon journey like so many of his peers had. It hadn't really bothered him, but now that he'd already taken that first step and acquired his own pokémon, it seemed like the path was laid out before him, practically begging to be taken.

He found himself making up his mind as he stepped off one of the glorified mountain trails he frequented onto a well-traveled walking path, not quite big enough to have a route number, but cared for well enough for Ken to feel safe letting off some of his building energy by taking off at a smooth jog that rapidly became a full sprint. By the time he made it into town he was breathing a bit harder but he felt great, and was completely sure: He was going out to see the world, his pokémon by his side!

The day was just truly beginning, early risers getting up and moving about with the rising sun rose as he entered the western side of town. He began making a mental list of what he would need; his first course of action would need to be to stop by the Pokémart and pick up a few things and let them know not to expect him in this week, or any time in the near future. He wandered past the hot springs and looked at them wistfully, but he knew it was a much better idea to grab a shower at the small house he shared with his mother if he wanted to get an early start today.

Lost in his planning, he found himself standing in front of the blue-roofed building he'd been working at for almost three years. The bell over the door clinked as he entered. It didn't take long to gather up everything he could think that he might need; a few pokéballs, a couple potions, and at least one heal for each status condition. He was all but ready to leave when a small seasonal display labeled "Survival Gear" caught his attention. After eyeing the display for a long minute he grabbed two repels, a wide brimmed black hat, and a flat-tipped k-bar knife with a serration along the quarter of the blade nearest the blotchy camouflage handle.

"All sorts of people stocking up today Ken," Mark, the cashier, said as he noticed Ken. "Planning on going somewhere, man?" he asked with raised eyebrows as he saw the item's Ken had piled onto the counter. Ken nodded to Mark, a man who'd worked there as long as he could remember, as he swiped his discount card and came closer than he'd like to clearing out his disposable income.

"Yeah, about that… I'm gonna be gone for a while, not sure how long, so don't expect to see me back here any time soon. I guess I finally get to go see the world."

Mark stared at him somewhat uncomprehendingly for a moment before his eyes widened in understanding "Did you…? That's why you bought that pokéball the other day! Finally got one did you? What was it? A numel? A spoink?"

Ken produced the pokéball from his pocket and gave a mischievous grin saying "Remember that larvitar that was following me around? I guess he likes me, hahaha."

After exchanging parting pleasantries with Mark, Ken took his load and jogged back to his house, depositing his new purchases in his room and setting his smartphone to download several PokeNav style apps before taking a quick shower. Shortly thereafter he was simultaneously trying to dry off, pack, and get dressed, resulting in most of his clothing having at least a few wet splotches and the dark green muscle shirt he'd chosen for the day already had a spreading dampness across his upper back from his as of yet unbound hair.

Less than an hour after leaving the Pokémart Ken was making for Jagged Pass at a brisk pace, munching on a protein bar, his still slightly damp hair in a tight braid behind his head, a red and black short-sleeve button-up with geometric patterns thrown over his muscle shirt and rucksack strapped across his back, canvas pants covering from waist to ankles, and hiking boots pounding out a rhythm as he made took his first steps toward his life's next journey.

Jagged Pass
Lyssa Ganston

Spoiler:

It had been a good half hour since she had left the PokeMart, and Lyssa was finally getting near the outskirts of town. She came across a wooden sign impaled in the grassy hill, which read 'Jagged Pass', in bold letters, along with an arrow pointing forwards. Well, I guess this is it. The start of my journey. There wasn't much except for a dirt path, that seemingly got more rugged as it went uphill. It winded around mountainous trees so it was difficult for Lyssa to see exactly what lay ahead. She patted down her satchel, containing Chimchar's Pokeball, and started to walk ahead, up the winding path to the mountain.

Hopefully this won't be too hard. I know ash can sometimes fall down, but usually that's not until people start getting higher up the mountain. She looked around, and although there wasn't any ash, the terrain was definitely a bit rocky. Maybe I should let Chimchar out for a bit… She reached into her bag and pulled out a Pokeball, giving it a light toss. A white light shot out, revealing Chimchar. Chim… He let out a quiet growl as he started to walk calmly alongside his trainer. "You're not very energetic like other Chimchar, are you?" Chimchar didn't say anything, continuing to walk. "Speaking of which, I think you need a name." She put her hand on her chin trying to think of a decent name. "How about…Cinder! You like that?" Chimchar looked at Lyssa blankly for a brief moment, before turning his head back forwards. "Alright, Cinder it is."

Blaine Berk and Hark Rense: First Battle!
Ralts Vs Magby...FIGHT

Blaine and Apollo were both just taking in the sights when they noticed a burly looking man walking by. He seems like an interesting fellow. He appeared to have a wire or two protruding from his arm..."Odd." He muttered to himself. He made to approach the man and smiled at him brightly. "Excuse me sir!" He stopped him and put a hand on his shoulder. "I don't suppose you're a new trainer too?" He looked at him inquisitively.

Hark let out a sigh then looked over at the trainer as he removed the teen's arm with his own mechanical right arm. Turning around to fully face Blaine he replied in a neutral uncaring voice, "I just received a Pokemon." Hark would never call himself a trainer, he hated that title since it implied devoting one's life to raising Pokemon. Being a trainer was a great sin in Hark's mind as they did nothing for humanity, and trainers and the world's obsession with them is what held back progress. Several years ago Hoenn launched the first ship into space to go to the moon. Did anyone care? No, some pokemon championship was on. Now the space program is slowly dying from lack of interest and funding. Snapping his mind back to the world around him Hark looked up at the tall boy awaiting for the enviable challenge.

Blaine was almost taken aback by the man's rather shrewd remark. Almost. He seemed a bit apposed to pokemon training. "Well, so did I." He gestured to the small, red pokemon behind him. "This is Apollo. He's a Magby." Apollo did little more than hide behind his trainer's leg, causing Blaine to laugh a bit. "Don't worry, little man. He seems friendly enough." The one thing about this guy that bothered Blaine was his cold, metallic hand. It was almost...robotic. He looked to the man and gave him a smile. "I'm Blaine. Blaine Berk. Blaine Byron Berk. I'm gonna be the very best trainer in all of Hoenn!" He gave a slightly arrogant grin and crossed his hands behind his head. "So, wanna have a battle with a champion?

"I'm Hark Rense, inventor," replied Hark trying to be somewhat polite to the mindless trainer. He then looked down at Apollo as he pulled a Pokeball out of his pocket with his machine arm. He looked at the Pokeball and said, "And this is my… well no idea what it is." Then the kid challenged him to a battle with a boast included. Hark sighed and said, "I don't care that you might become a champion, and while I'm not normally inclined to waste my time battling. I guess it would be good to see what this thing is and what it can do in a controlled environment. So yes, I will battle you…" As he said this he clicked the button on the Pokeball releasing a Pokemon at his feet. The pokemon had pale white skin and looked much like a toddler. Her green hair was longer on the sides and back, while short enough to almost see her ruby red eyes. Seeing his pokemon for the first time Hark's face twisted into almost terrified look of disappointment. He also seemed to suddenly spaced out as he stared at his Pokemon, yet his eyes seemed to not really be looking at it at the same time.

The Ralt's face and demeanor instantly sunk as well. This was to be her trainer? It seemed like he hated her already. The Ralts wanted to cry, but she fought back her tears. She was raised by a breeder and was told that she would be some lucky trainer's first pokemon. They would have a special bond and would be best friends as they went on a wonderful journey together. Instead she got this part machine person who seemed horrified by her. His emotions of horror, loss, and guilt overwhelmed the small emotion Pokemon. Looking up at her trainer the intelligent Ralts fought through her new trainer's emotions, but she was too weak to figure out why she invoked such sudden and saddening emotions.

The mechanical man seemed to be polite enough, and an inventor nonetheless! He seemed to be completely opposed to pokemon training, however. No matter! A friend is a friend, no matter how small. "Being a trainer isn't as bad as you think, ya know?" He smiled and crossed his hands behind his back. "It brings us closer with pokemon." When Hark released his pokemon, it turned out to be a Ralts. It seemed like a shy, timid creature. Hark's look, however, was not compassionate to his new companion. A small frown crossed Blaine's face. Hopefully Hark would come to know and love his new companion. "Well, let's do this then!"

Blaine ran back about five feet with Apollo on his heels. The Magby seemed to be afraid to go without his trainer to protect him. A small smile crossed Blaine's lips. He's gonna be big and poweful one day, I just know it! He pulled out his PokeDex and scanned Apollo. His only moves were Flame Charge, Smog, and Smokescreen. Ah. A sneaky fighter I bet! "Common' Apollo! Let's show this guy how awesome training is!" He laughed jovially. "You can have first move!"

Hark snapped out of his flashback and said to his Ralts half heartedly, "Ok attack." The Ralts just stared up at him looking a little lost and waiting for an order to use a move. "Come on… you know your abilities better than I do. Just calm your mind and do what you know is best," added Hark as he looked up at the other trainer. Hark had no idea what he was doing, but why should he? If his Pokemon was truly as intelligent as people claimed Pokemon were it would know what its own abilities were.

The Ralts was still confused a little but she did what he said and calmed her mind and focused on summoning up her physic energy. As her mind calmed she began to realize that likely her trainer had no idea what he was doing and had no clue of her abilities. It was going to be up to her to fight for herself. Her horns began to glow with a sky blue aura as she tapped into her inner power.

As his Pokemon used Calm Mind, Hark looked at the boy and spoke with conviction, "Being a trainer is pathetic. It's devoting one's life to improving Pokemon instead of one's self and wasting one's own potential. Humanity's true potential is held back by its obsession with Pokemon. It's a profession of intellectual slothfulness and I find it appalling. I can't stand seeing so much potential wasted, and how much humanity has stagnated due to his sport." Hark no longer cared about being polite as he spewed its opinion out for the world to hear. Flashbacks of his greatest failure had lowered all his defenses and he was just going to speak his mind for now.

Hark seemed not to care in the slightest about pokemon training, battling, or even his pokemon. He ordered her to do her own attacks, although she was nothing more than a baby pokemon. She used Calm Mind to raise her defenses. "You just can't let them do things on their own! Their sentient beings! Just like us!" He began to grow frustrated, but he kept his anger in check. "They can help!" He grunted in frustration.

"Apollo, use Smokescreen!" The Magby looked confused for a moment. "You know, Smokescreen." He made a gesture that one would suggest blowing a flame. Apollo's eyes opened wide and nodded. "Maag!" It looked to his opponent and began to spew forth a thick, black screen of haze. "Now follow up with Flame Charge!" Apollo cloaked itself in flame and charged towards the faint blue outline in the smog.

Hark began to go on in a small tirade about how pokemon training was a waste of time., and how he appalled it so. "I guess I can see where you're coming from..." He pondered his opponent's thought processing. "I guess not, but I won't step on your ideals. Just don't go stepping on others! It's just flat out rude!"

Hark smirked and said, "Yes they are sentient, I'm hoping my Ralts can learn to fight without my help, otherwise it is no use to me."

The Magby slammed into the Ralts burning her as well as tackling her. In a frantic response the Ralts quickly hit the fire type with a burst of Psychic energy, sending him flying off her and back into the smoke. When the Ralts was hit, Hark frowned a little. His Ralts then stood back up and summoned up Psychic energy to attack the Magby whenever he re emerged from the smoke. The Ralts was looking frantic and her focus was being replaced by fear.

"Sorry, Blaine but I'm too set in my beliefs to not step on yours. Call it rude, I do not care," replied Hark coldly. He then added, "I can't help but see you as weak and unwilling to strengthen yourself. Instead you will always rely on others to do the fighting for you."

Apollo was sent back reeling into the smoke, but he had managed to regain his feet. The powerful Psychic attack was good, but it wasn't enough to keep him from backing down, although he did feel a bit more skeptical about his chances. "Use Smokescreen again, but with Smog mixed into it!" The combo would be perfect. The Ralts would be both confused, AND poisoned.

Blaine looked to Hark with a smirk. "I can understand that." Blaine, himself, defended Pokemon Training, using both tooth and nail. It wasn't easy to let go of a passion. "I grew up in Verdanturf, which all on its own is a troublesome thing, with their close-mindedness and what-not, but I didn't let that stop me!" He smirked and flicked a strand of hair from his view. "And say what you will. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion." Something crossed his mind. "You know what? Nothing is worthless!" He forgot all caution. "Apollo, use Flame Charge!" Once again the Magby charged forward, albeit more reluctantly this time around.

The Ralts started to cough uncontrollably and started to back out of the cloud while her eyes watered. She tried to force away the poisonous fumes with her psychic abilities but this left her open to the incoming attack. The Ralts saw the charging Magby coming straight at her a second later, but she had no time to recover her defenses. All she had time to do was brace for the hit that never came. A second before the Magby slammed into the Ralts, Hark recalled the Emotion Pokemon into the safety of its Pokeball. "No reason to extend my Ralt's misery… it isn't going to win this fight," stated Hark as he looked at his Pokemon's ball, he actually looked a little concerned for his Pokemon.

"I best be off to the center to heal my Pokemon before her wounds get worse. Also your wrong there are plenty of worthless people and things in this world," said Hark as he turned around to head to the Pokecenter. He didn't wait for a reply as he walked quickly to the Center. He was trying to not look like he was in a hurry but he was doing a poor job of hiding his urgency.

A small grin came across Blaine's face as he watched the lad return his Ralts to its pokeball. He looked to Apollo, who was running up to him, and grinned. The Magby seemed to be ecstatic and jumped into the air with a fist pump. "MAG!" The two began to do a little dance until Blaine realized that he was still in public. He quickly sobered up and removed a Potion from his bag and used it on his pokemon. The Magby cringed at first, but it was obvious he felt better afterward. "Good job, little man!" He crouched down and held out his hand for a high five. Apollo was confused at first, but after a moment he nodded and slapped his little palm against Blaine's larger one, causing a grin to break out.

Blaine nodded as Hark turned to go to the Pokemon Center. It...actually seemed like he cared. "Alright. It's been nice battling you, Hark." He smiled and gave a wry 'wave of a couple fingers' and turned away. He was going to leave peacefully...until he heard Hark's statement about there being a lot of worthless beings. He turned around and called out, "You know what? You can say whatever you want about me, but you can't say anything about anyone else, okay?" He humphed in anger and looked to Apollo. "He's quite a bitter man, no?" With that, the pair began to walk towards the Jagged Pass, both now filled with hope that they could make it through this journey. After all, Blaine was now undefeated.

As Blaine and Apollo approached the jagged pass, Hark entered the PokeCenter and walked up to the counter and handed the nurse the Ralt's Pokeball. "I think it's been poisoned, and it took a pretty good beating." The nurse took the Pokeball while frowning at Hark, and then stood up and walked off with her patient.

Several minutes later the nurse returned and Hark stood up to take the Pokeball, but the nurse refused to give it to him. Hark looked confused as the nurse said, "Your Pokemon is not an it…She is a female, so the correct term is she. Considering your one of those trainers who doesn't even know what gender your Pokemon is I'm guessing you haven't named her yet."

Hark glared at the bold nurse and with a sigh he said, "No name yet."

The nurse frowned and said, "Before I give this back to you make me a promise. That you will give her a name she likes before the end of the day, so you can stop degrading the poor thing."
"I promise I will give her a name she likes," said Hark as he leaned against the counter.

"Then here… I really shouldn't give you this Pokemon back but she is officially yours and I can't steal her from you," muttered the Nurse handing Hark the Pokeball.

Hark took the ball, and quickly left. He was on his way to the Jagged pass when he opened the Pokeball releasing the Ralts. Looking down at her he said, "Ok I promised to give you a name so what about… Erin?" The Ralts shook her head in response. Hark threw out more common names, but were all rejected by the Ralts. A little frustrated he asked, "Want me to just make up a unique name or something?" To this the Ralts nodded. So Hark made up several dozen names until the name Lannia came up. Hearing this, the Ralts suddenly nodded. With a sigh of relief Hark said, "Ok Lannia it is."
They walked slowly (for the Ralt's sake) for a few minutes toward the pass before Hark spoke again. "Lannia I think I should be honest with you. I'm not a trainer at all, and I never want to be one. I just need your help to protect me while I get my plans underway then you can go free. That being said I need you to think for yourself and fight for yourself since I have other things I need to focus on. I will take care of you and do my best to protect you as well, but don't expect me to be some friendly Pokemon obsessed friend for life trainer. You will have your freedom when I no longer require you."

Lannia was shocked at Hark's bluntness and was a little worried that he would just toss her aside once he didn't see a need for her. Seeing how she preformed earlier she started to fear that time would be sooner rather than later. She had to prove herself to him. She was always called weak, but she knew she was better than everyone said she was, and now she had to really prove it. She had to show Hark he needed to keep her around.

Jagged Pass
Lyssa Ganston

Spoiler:

Lyssa and Cinder stood behind tree, looking over at the small black, bird-like Pokemon munching on seeds on littered on the rugged mountain side grass. It says here this Pokemon is Starly, A flying and Normal type...Cinder may not have the best type advantage, but I think it should do. "Alright, Cinder, you ready?" Cinder didn't say anything, looking Starly while standing next to Lyssa's feet. She opened up a page about Cinder's abilities and scrolled through the list. Let's go with this one... "Alright Cinder, use Ember!"Without hesitation, Cinder ran around the tree towards the wild Starly several feet away, launching a small ball of flames once he got within range. Chim! The flame shot right past the wild Starly, who immediately became alert and rose into the air letting out a screech.

"Cinder, try to keep your distance!" Cinder stood on a grass patch, looking upwards at the airborne Starly. It suddenly flew downwards, attempting to dive-bomb Cinder, narrowly dodging with a side step. Cinder turned around to face the Starly, who once again returned back towards Cinder's direction, this time getting a direct hit. Chimchar! Cinder was knocked back a few feet and lay on the ground. Oh no...not good. My first battle, and already I'm getting my butt kicked... "Quick, scratch!" The Starly once again flew towards Cinder, but was interrupted with a quick swipe of Cinder's claws to the face, causing the Starly to fly into the grass, grounding it. Lyssa quickly took out an empty Pokeball and threw at the wild Starly. Star! The Starly quickly rolled over on the grass, dodging the Pokeball, and started to flap it's wings to become airborne again. Darn! "Cinder, Ember!" Cinder opened his mouth, and let loose another ball of flame at Starly, who managed to do a barrel roll around the flaming projectile, and land another direct hit on Cinder. The red Pokemon was once again knocked down back a few feet, but this time lay a little longer on the grass. "Cinder...get up!" Lyssa said with a hint of worry in her voice. Cin... Cinder weakly got up, readying itself for one last bout. C'mon...there has to be something... Lyssa looked through the list of attacks, until she decided to use one last move.

"Alright, use Bulk Up!" Cinder hesitated for a moment, still recuperating from the last hit. It huffed and puffed a few times, before starting to glow slightly in a orange-brown aura. Meanwhile, the Starly shot forwards towards its opponent, attempting one more smack before the battle was over. "Now Cinder, Scratch!" Cinder quickly dove below the line of Starly's tackle, clawing it from underneath. Star! It flew back into the ground and lay there motionlessly. Lyssa used this to her advantage, throwing one more Pokeball. The ball hit the defeated Starly, putting it into the Pokeball in a red light. Lyssa and Cinder watched as the Pokeball shook a few times, awaiting a potential capture.

Nolan Richards - Chapter 1 - Part 2
Soon after beginning their assent of the Jagged Pass trail, Nolan was starting to realize that this was not just going to be a walk in the park. He was already slowing down and flagging slightly, as appose to Jackie, who looked to be quite comfortable in his effort to climb the pass.

Mind, Jackie had lived in the wild, so he might have been used to climbing step passes, Nolan thought to himself. Despite only having been climbing for a short while, Nolan had seen quite a few nervous looking people all with one trait in common. They all had a Pokémon. He hadn't bothered talking to annoy of them, they all seemed to have a peppy attitude to him, definitely not his style.

"Ty!" Jackie said, in a sharp whisper to Nolan. He pointed over to their right, where a girl was battling a bird Pokémon Jason had seen around quite a lot before, but had never bothered with them. They always seemed pretty weak, and with his reputation, he didn't have time for the weak. He crouched down, out of sight and observed the battle unfolding between this girl's Chimchar and the Starly.

"What do you think Jackie?" Nolan whispered, wondering what Jackie was thinking about the scene unfolding before them.

"Ty-rogue!" Jackie tutted, not seeming overly impressed, which was no real surprise to Nolan as Jackie wasn't a fan of elemental attackers, such as Chimchar. After the girl threw the Pokéball at the Starly, the pair began walking again, more slowly this time, wanting to see if the girl caught the Starly or not.

Jagged Pass
Lyssa Ganston

Team Thus Far:
Spoiler:

One shake...two shake...three shake...Gotcha! Lyssa counted in her head, jumped up and down in excitement. The Pokeball made its signature 'beep' noise, signalling Starly had been captured. Lyssa ran happily towards the Pokeball and picked it up. "Since you're a Starly...I'm gonna name you...Star!" She smiled, looking at Cinder, who was tired from the battle. Cinder walked up to Lyssa and leaned against her leg. "Awww, Cinder you're tired? Here, take a rest." She said, taking out another Pokeball and putting it into her free hand, returning Cinder in a burst of red light. She put away Cinder's Pokeball back into her satchel, and took out her Pokedex to do a quick analysis on her newly retrieved Starly.

Available Moves: Tackle, Growl, Quick Attack. Ability: Keen Eye. A mechanical voice spoke from the device. Lyssa knew that the Starly probably did not know any higher level moves, but the speed it showed in battle against Cinder was incredible. She figured she could use a Pokemon like that on her team. She put away her Pokedex and Starly's Pokeball and continued to walk, until she saw a figure walking behind some trees.

Another trainer? Or maybe a hiker? Lyssa just took a quick glance, as she had no clue as to who this person was. She didn't want to give the wrong idea by walking up, or staring for too long. She started to walk upwards, continuing her trek through Jagged Pass, looking around every so often to see if the person was following.

Blaine Byron Berk - Chapter 1 - Part 1

Team
Spoiler:

Stored Pokemon
Spoiler:

Blaine was having a merry old time walking up to the pass with Apollo by his side. Sure, it was blazing hot, but they wouldn't let that stop them. Volcanoes didn't have anything on them! Blaine looked to his small companion and smiled. "Apollo, my man, we'll be at the top of the pass by breakfast tomorrow!" He laughed lightheartedly and began to pick up the pace a bit. "I'd say the league should surrender to us already!" He began to laugh even more. Sure, he was a bit arrogant, but hey! Who could blame him? He was an undefeated, rookie trainer! He had to get beaten before he could say that he wouldn't lose! "Now, onwards!"

The pair charged forward, but they were met with a rocky path. Both Apollo AND Blaine managed to trip and fall a good dozen times before they decided that running was a bad idea. Blaine stood up shakily and laughed a bit. "Apollo...Why did you listen to me? That was a terrible idea! You should be the voice of reason!" His body was racked with laughter. The little Magby close behind him was smiling, although he seemed a bit tired. "Here, little guy, I gotcha." He lifted up his little friend onto his shoulder. Thankfully he wasn't very heavy, so he would be easy to carry around. Blaine began to walk even faster as he saw the entrance. "We're almost to the second step of our journey!" He grinned and sprinted forward, stopping only to evade a tan girl by turning at an odd angle, ending up on his stomach in order to prevent Apollo from being hurt. He stood up shakily and brushed the dust off of himself. He turned to the girl and smiled. She was almost a foot shorter than himself, and had long, purple hair. Blaine held out his hand and smiled. "Hey there. I'm sorry about that." He laughed a bit nervously. "I wasn't watching where I was going...Was in a bit of a hurry to get to the pass, you see." He gestured to the Jagged Pass behind him. "I'm Blaine. Blaine Berk. Blaine Byron Berk." He broke each different version of his name into smaller parts. "I'm gonna be challenging the league." He noticed a pokeball or two on her persona. "I don't suppose you're a trainer too?" Apollo peaked over his shoulder barely, making sure he wasn't too easily noticed.

Nylea brushed a straind of her black hair out of her face as she looked at the boy that just fell onto his stomach in front of her. "Hey there. I'm sorry about that." he laughed nervously. "I wasn't watching where I was going...Was in a bit of a hurry to get to the pass, you see." he continued gesturing to the pass behind him. "I'm Blaine. Blaine Berk. Blaine Byron Berk. I'm gonna be challenging the league. I don't suppose you're a trainer too?" he asked her.

"um..yeah I'm a trainer too" Nylea said looking at him nervously not shaking his hand. "I'm Nylea Dahl and this is Blossom" she gestured to her little vulpix. "my daughter named her" she added looking around. "I hope you don't mind if it takes a bit for me not to be a little nervous...I don't trust guys that easily" she said softly deciding to be honest with him. Honesty was the first step to trust in her mind.

"um..yeah I'm a trainer too" The girl seemed quite timid. "I'm Nylea Dahl and this is Blossom," Nylea gestured to the Vulpix beside her. "my daughter named her" she added looking around. "I hope you don't mind if it takes a bit for me not to be a little nervous...I don't trust guys that easily."

Blaine gave her a bright smile and crossed his hands behind his neck. "It's find. I don't mind at all." Blaine was never one to question anyone's quirks or tendencies. "Nice to meet you, Nylea. You're officially the second trainer I've met on my journey." His face was one of sheer excitement. It was always interesting meeting new people, and girls were certainly no exception. He gestured to the Magby hiding on his back, "This little guy is Apollo. I just thought it would be fitting, seeing as he's made of a fire." A small laugh escaped his lips. Apollo peeked his head over his human's shoulders timidly. "Don't be shy, my man. She doesn't bite." He looked at her with an eyebrow raised and a sarcastic smirk, "Do you?"

Ken Darbin - Chapter One - Part 2

Team
Spoiler:

Standing at the beginning of the road that would lead to Jagged Pass, Ken found himself eyeing the thickly wooded area on either side of the trail, wondering at the possibilities that might be lurking there. Eh, what the hell, he found himself thinking as he stepped off the well beaten path and into the unknown shade of the forest.

He walked through the trees, attempting to move as silently as his size and the tightly spaced trees allowed, keeping an eye on the ground to make sure he would be aware of any protruding roots, large rocks, or ankle-snapping diglett holes; a habit one picks up when most areas that are explored are later ran through. After perhaps ten minutes had passed, he began to wonder if his instinctual urge to explore was doing any more than delaying his progress up the mountain. With those worrying thoughts accompanying him, Ken nearly missed a sound that caused him to freeze in his tracks. There it was again.

"-diursa" drifted through the forest, just barely audible.

"My, my, my, what have we here?" he murmured as slowly stalked towards the source of the sound. Carefully avoiding the brittle twigs scattered about, Ken slowly approached a small clearing, all but invisible until he got near enough that the illusion of perpetual forest began to fade, and peered at the source of the noise; a small pokémon. The plump little brown ball of fur was half way up the side of a tree, sticking its paw into what appeared to be some kind of nest, seemingly empty. Pulling out his smartphone and selecting a pokédex app, he snapped a quick picture of the scene, letting the pokédex analyze the situation and taking in the readout it gave him.

The little bear pokémon, has a thing for honey, and… oh, that's probably a beedrill hive. I hope it's as empty as it looks. Reaching into one of the pockets of his pack, Ken brought out Rexus' pokéball, sending the larvitar out into the cover of a tree. As the pokémon solidified into his familiar shape, Ken put a finger to his lips, shushing Rexus before he had a chance to make any noise. Rexus looked up at his, his head cocked to the side quizzically. Leaning around the trunk of the tree he was hiding behind, Ken pointed to the teddiursa, "I think we just found our first battle. You've got this," he said as he gestured his pokémon out into the clearing.

"TAAAAAR," Rexus shouted as he stepped forward, issuing his battle cry.

The teddiursa snapped its head around to stare at the larvitar, first in confusion then in comprehension as it let itself slide down the tree to land gently on the ground.

"Rock polish first, then bite!" Ken called to Rexus.

The little rock skin pokémon nodded in affirmation, taking a firm stance as his skin began to glow a dark green. He charged the teddiursa, mouth open for his first strike.

The teddiursa threw up its arm to take the attack. It paused for a moment, and then blinked at the larvitar attached to its arm. It began trembling, blinking profusely, and then broke out into tears, wailing loudly. Rexus jumped back in surprise a look of confusion and uncertainty on its face, looking back at Ken, "Lar?"

"Rexus, don't trust it!" As the larvitar turned back to its opponent teddiursa was already leaning in, its tongue extended, licking Rexus on the cheek, giggling all the while.

The teddiursa brought its paw up to its mouth as it giggled at the ridged larvitar who stood there, wracked with trembles.

"Are you gonna let it get away with that!" Ken shouted hotly. Rexus' trembling seemed to fade for a moment and it shot a leer at the devious teddiursa and bared his fangs. Backing off a few steps the teddiursa seemed to forget its defense, presenting just the opportunity for Rexus to dart in and deliver a devastating bite to its shoulder causing it to flinch and taking the chance to deliver another to its briefly upraised arm.

"Okay, I've got this!" Ken said as he produced a pokéball from his pack and tossed it at the downed teddiursa. He and Rexus stared intently at the pokéball as it began to jerk around. C'mon…
