The one song that always, always gets to me is My Mother's Only Son by Blindside. The song's about a person watching someone build a self-destructive pattern for their life and comments about how much he hates the change in this person. At the end, he reveals that the person is himself, but he doesn't want to believe it's true.

This is just some of the lyrics:
He sees it's eating him up
It's the price he pays
But it's not even worth a dime
So scared that people may find out
He is what he hates
So scared all the time

Piece by piece he's trying to build a ladder
For him to fall from
Every time he climbs
He condemns their actions
So that no one will suspect
That he's the victim for his own crime

This is his darkness
In which he will stand
This is his naked inside
Alone in a desert land
And I'm a coward
Shut my eyes and concentrate
On my shell, on soap and shower
Oh God how I want to tell the world
But I hesitate

So why don't I have the courage to tell you he is me?

I've always felt some relation/connection between me and The Who's Behind Blue Eyes. It's kinda about someone who has to cover up what he's really like, has to lie through everything, and is pretty much emotionally controlled. Here's some lyrics:

No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you!

No one bites back as hard
On their anger
None of my pain and woe
Can show through

But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be

I have hours only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

When my fist clenches, crack it open
Before I use it and lose my cool
When I smile, tell me some bad news
Before I laugh and act like a fool

And If I swallow anything evil
Put your finger down my throat
And If I shiver, please give me a blanket
Keep me warm, let me wear your coat

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

This song is also musically powerful because it's The Who, after all. :)

I actually found Of Monsters & Men's "Little Talks" really powerful once I'd listened to it and considered its lyrics properly. As usual with Of Monsters & Men it's not entirely clear what a song is about since they tend to skip around to many different things, but this passage:

You're gone, gone, gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is the ghost of you.
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart,
There's nothing we can do
Just let me go we'll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me
Please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep

and the way it's sung so matter-of-factly just seems to crushingly sad to me that it catches my breath for a few seconds afterwards. It just feels like they've resigned themselves to the grief of it all.

This is really catchy and yet at the same time it fits rather well with the themes of the video game TWEWY once you think about it. The video shown here is the Kingdom Mix as featured in KH 3D Dream Drop Distance.

Blowin' in the Wind by Bob Dylan (although I listen the rock cover by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes more often) easily takes first place. The whole song was just very touching, inspirational and deep, even if it doesn't have fancy words. It also summarizes the world we live in today.
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they are forever banned?

Another song is Superman by Five For Fighting. My interpretation of this song is that a superhero explains to himself -- or to other people that he isn't just a normal, ordinary superhero but there is more to him than that, but he can't find something that makes him special. It also states that superheroes are also human; they have the right to bleed and to dream.
I'm more than a bird,
I'm more than a plane
I'm more than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me

Zedd - Clarity (feat. Foxes)

High dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life
Fight fear for the selfish pain it was worth it every time
Hold still right before we crash, cause we both know how this ends
A clock ticks 'till it breaks your glass and I drown in you again

Cause you are the piece of me, I wish I didnt need
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I dont know why

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our loves insanity, why are you my clarity?

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our loves insanity, why are you my clarity?

Walk on through a red parade, and refuse to make amends
It cuts deep through our ground and makes us forget all common sense
Dont speak as I try to leave, cause we both know what we'll choose
If you pull, then Ill push too deep and Ill fall right back to you

Cause you are the piece of me, I wish I didnt need
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I dont know why

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our loves insanity, why are you my clarity?

Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my remedy?
Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my remedy?

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our loves insanity, why are you my clarity?

This song's lyrics heavily connect to my personality in a big way, it's quite powerful in a sense to me.

Most powerful:

Immortal Technique - Dance With the Devil. The lyrics and story behind this gives me chills down my spine everytime I hear it. It's one of the most powerful lyrics anyone could ever hear. Written and spoken so well that you can visualize the moments as if you were there, it's that powerful and the message is just mind blowing. If you don't know this song, give it a listen to. If you don't wanna listen, here's the lyrics

[Verse 1]
I once knew a ***** whose real name was William
His primary concern, was making a million
Being the illest hustler, that the world ever seen
He used to **** movie stars and sniff coke in his dreams
A corrupted young mind, at the age of thirteen
***** never had a father and his mom was a fiend
She put the pipe down, but for every year she was sober
Her son's heart simultaneously grew colder
He started hanging out, selling bags in the projects
Checking the young chicks, looking for hit-and-run prospects
He was fascinated by material objects
But he understood money never bought respect
He built a reputation 'cause he could hustle and steal
But got locked once and didn't hesitate to squeal
So criminals he chilled with didn't think he was real
You see, me and *****s like this have never been equal
I don't project my insecurities on other people
He fiended for props like addicts with pipes and needles
So he felt he had to prove to everyone he was evil
A feeble-minded young man with infinite potential
The product of a ghetto-bred capitalistic mental
Coincidentally dropped out of school to sell weed
Dancing with the devil, smoked until his eyes would bleed
But he was sick of selling trees and gave in to his greed

[Hook]
Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences
You probably only did a month for minor offences
Ask a ***** doing life if he had another chance
But then again there's always the wicked that knew in advance
Dance forever with the devil on a cold cell block
But that's what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock
Devils used to be gods angels that fell from the top
There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot

[Verse 2]
So Billy started robbing *****s, anything he could do
To get his respect back, in the eyes of his crew
Starting fights over little ****, up on the block
Stepped up to selling mothers and brothers the crack rock
Working overtime for making money for the crack spot
Hit the jackpot and wanted to move up to cocaine
fulfilling the Scarface fantasy stuck in his brain
Tired of the block *****s treating him the same
He wanted to be major like the cut-throats and the thugs
But when he tried to step to 'em, *****s showed him no love
They told him any mother****ing coward can sell drugs
Any ***** ***** with a gun can bust slugs
Any ***** with a red shirt can front like a blood
Even Puffy smoked a mother****er up in a club
But only a real thug can stab someone till they die
Standing in front of them, staring straight into their eyes
Billy realized that these men were well-guarded
And they wanted to test him before business started
Suggested raping a ***** to prove he was cold-hearted
So now he had a choice between going back to his life
Or making money with made men, up in the cife
His dreams about cars and ice made him agree
A hardcore ***** is all he ever wanted to be
And so he met them Friday night at a quarter to three

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
They drove around the projects slow while it was raining
Smoking blunts, drinking and joking for entertainment
Until they saw a woman on the street walking alone
Three in the morning, coming back from work, on her way home
And so they quietly got out the car and followed her
Walking through the projects, the darkness swallowed her
They wrapped her shirt around her head and knocked her onto the floor
"This is it kid, now you got your chance to be raw."
So Billy yoked her up and grabbed the chick by the hair
And dragged her into a lobby that had nobody there
She struggled hard but they forced her to go up the stairs
They got to the roof and then held her down on the ground
Screaming, "Shut the **** up and stop moving around!"
The shirt covered her face, but she screamed and clawed
So Billy stomped on the *****, 'til he broken her jaw
Them dirty bastards knew exactly what they were doing
They kicked her until they cracked her ribs and she stopped moving
Blood leaking through the cloth, she cried silently
And then they all proceeded to rape her violently
Billy was made to go first, but each of them took a turn
Ripping her up, and choking her until her throat burned
Her broken jaw mumbled for God but they weren't concerned
When they were done and she was lying bloody, broken and bruised
One of them *****s pulled out a brand new twenty-two
They told him that she was a witness for what she'd gone through
And if he killed her he was guaranteed a spot in the crew
He thought about it for a minute, she was practically dead
And so he leaned over and put the gun right to her head

[Sample from "Survival of the Fittest" by Mobb Deep]
I'm falling and I can't turn back
I'm falling and I can't turn back

[Verse 4]
Right before he pulled the trigger, and ended her life
He thought about the cocaine with the platinum and ice
And he felt strong standing along with his new brothers
Cocked the gat to her head, and pulled back the shirt cover
But what he saw made him start to cringe and stutter
'Cause he was staring into the eyes of his own mother
She looked back at him and cried, 'cause he had forsaken her
She cried more painfully, than when they were raping her
His whole world stopped, he couldn't even contemplate
His corruption had successfully changed his fate
And he remembered how his mom used to come home late
Working hard for nothing, 'cause now what was he worth
He turned away from the woman that had once given him birth
And crying out to the sky 'cause he was lonely and scared
But only the devil responded, 'cause god wasn't there
And right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold
And so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul
They say death takes you to a better place but I doubt it
After that they killed his mother, and never spoke about it
And listen 'cause the story that I'm telling is true
'Cause I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom too
And now the devil follows me everywhere that I go
In fact, I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows
And every street cypher listening to little thugs flow
He could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know
The devil grows inside the hearts of the selfish and wicked
White, brown, yellow and black color is not restricted
You have a self-destructive destiny when you're inflicted
And you'll be one of god's children that fell from the top
There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot
So when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never
Because a dance with the devil might last you forever

2Pac - Dear Mama. Just the passion this dude had for music along with the message behind it has a vote for me. This song is legendary as well is 2Pac.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Crossroads. Simply beautiful flow and harmony with a positive message about death and losing a loved one. "See you at the crossroads, so you wont be lonely". The whole purpose and message of this song is powerful and explains a mind state after losing a loved one. But putting it in in a positive vibe. Pretty much saying, it's all going to be okay because we'll all meet again in the end.

Tell Me Why

a song of love for every boy and girl
The sky is blue
and fields are green
and laughter is the language of the world
Then I wake and all I see,
is a world full of people in need

Chorus:
Tell me why (why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) cos I don't understand
When so many need somebody,
we don't give a helping hand
Tell me why?

Everyday I ask myself,
what will I have to do to be a man?
Do I have to stand and fight,
to prove to everybody who I am?
Is that what my life is for,
to waste in a world full of war?

Chorus:
Tell me why (why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) cos I don't understand
When so many need somebody,
we don't give a helping hand
Tell me why?

Chorus:
(children)tell me why?(Declan)tell me why?
(children)tell me why?(Declan)tell me why?
(together) just tell me why, why, why?

Chorus:
Tell me why (why) does it have to be like this?
Tell me why (why) is there something I have missed?
Tell me why (why) cos I don't understand
When so many need somebody,
we don't give a helping hand
Tell me why?

Chorus:
(why,why,does the tiger run)
Tell me why (why, why do we shoot the gun)
Tell me why (why, why do we never learn)
Can someone tell us why we let the forest burn?
(why, why do we say we care)
Tell me why (why, why do we stand and stare)
Tell me why (why, why do the dolphin cry)
Can some one tell us why we let the ocean die?
(why, why if we're all the same)
Tell me why (why, why do we pass the blame)
Tell me why (why, why does it never end)
Can some one tell us why we cannot just be friends?

(why, why do we close our eyes?)
(why, why do the greedy lie?)
(why, why do we fight for land?)
(can someone tell us why cos we don't understand?)
(why, why?)

I find it quite powerful and inspirational.

Agree with you, "behind blue eyes" is such a beautiful and deep song. I really do relate to it. It's like we all have this dark place we end up in sometimes. Where we feel so sad and alone.

One of the songs that has touched me the most is "I'm Okay" By Christina Aguilera. She talks here openly about the domestic violence that went on in their home. That her father hit her mother, and even she and her sister too. It's a very strong song. And she has only sung it live once. While singing it in the studio she barely made it through the song, because she always broke down crying. Such a strong story and i give her so much credit for telling these things so openly. I wish issues like this, incest, domestic violence, sexual abuse, verbal abuse where more talked about , because i am sure there are so, so, sooo many people expieriencing this.

Good Times Roll by The Cars. It really explains how I live my life, disconnected from societies expectations.

Spoiler:

That's the gist of it.

I can't say I have a song which heavily relates to me or anything like that. Dunno why...

However Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys really prepares me for just about anything that I'm 'bout to do. The simple yet strong drums, the ongoing riff and the climax of the song gives me like an overwhelming boost of confidnce somehow. It makes me feel like I can take on anything head on.

She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?"

He walks on, doesn't look back
He pretends he can't hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh
Think twice
'Cause it's another day for you and me in paradise
Oh
Think twice
'Cause it's another day for you
You and me in paradise

(Think about it)

She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet
She can't walk but she's trying

Oh
Think twice
'Cause it's another day for you and me in paradise
Oh
Think twice
It's just another day for you
You and me in paradise

Just think about it

Oh lord!
Is there nothing more anybody can do?
Oh-oh whoa lord!
There must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she's been there
Probably been moved on from every place
Cause she didn't fit in there

Oh
Think twice
'Cause it's another day for you and me in paradise
Oh
Think twice
It's just another day for you
You and me in paradise (Another day in paradise, ooh)

Just think about it
Hmm-mmm
Think about it

It's just another day
For you and me
In paradise
It's just another day
For you and me
In paradise
(Para, paradise)

(Paradise) It's just another day
For you and me (Ooh-ooh)
(Just think about it) In paradise
(Paradise) It's just another day
For you and me
(Just think about it) In paradise
(Para, paradise)

(Ooh-ooh, in paradise) It's just another day
For you and me
(Hmm-mmm, paradise) In paradise
It's just another day (Paradise)
For you and me (Just another day)
(In paradise) In paradise
(Para, paradise)

For a pop song, it really conveys a message. Of course its Phil Collins, so that goes without saying, but still, its one of the more thoughtful songs out there.
