(Pokémon XP / Pocket Monsters XP / PMXP)
    Made with RPG MAKER XP.

    - Project is canceled. kthxbai -

Oh Joy! Yet another GOLD & SILVER entry!

It's based on Blizzy & Freakboy's RPG Maker XP version of the Pokémon Starter Kit, because I'm lazy like that.

    Introduction:
I've been working on this game for over twelve months now, scrapping many ideas here and there, working on different projects, etc. Trying to learn how to create a decent, dark, enigmatic Pokémon game that would appeal to a variety of audiences based on its storyline, characters, battles, etc.

I'm trying to make it sort of a "Made-for-PC" game rather than an emulation of the official games.
So don't complain if it's not what you're accustomed to.

    Target Audience:
Demographics for this game are Open-Minded Casual Pokémon & RPG fans between the ages of 13-30.

    Story:

(Sorry, I'm not good at first-person fictional storyboarding so it may be a bit bland)

    Spoiler:

    Features:
    Starter Pokémon Choice
    Weather Effects

    Unimplemented:
    Branching Storyline (Hero/Neutral/Villain)
    Nine (9) Different Storyline Endings

Ah sorry about the screens, I'm kinda new to game presentations.

Battle backs have been a debatable topic for a while.
I can't really find a decent solution for it at the moment without being conventional.

As I said, this is supposed to be a "Made-for-PC" game sporting smoother graphics.
(The tileset was too large for each item to be individually optimized so I just pressed on an effect)

Which effect did you use to smooth the graphics? (I have Paint.net too)

EDIT: Never mind, I got it. Oil painting on brush size 1, right?

    1) Don't give screenshots in JPG format, use PNG! PNG is the superior image format type.

    2) Consider using Poccil's Essentials. It is a 100x than Blizzy's Kit.

    3) Those Graphics.... In some places those graphics look nice, but others just don't work. (On Nidoking in battle it looks horrible...)

    4) Battle Backgrounds: Change them! They are hideous!

I must agree with everything said here. Also, you must have heard of poccil's starter kit?

Let me just ask, why purposely choose the name "Pokémon XP" if it's being used 3 other times and that it may get confused for them?

  • Foreword:

Jeez, I leave for one day and look what criticisms blaze beyond the horizon.
Judging upon what I am looking at, the results of my experiment didn't fare too well.

    Well, on to the replies...

    --

Which effect did you use to smooth the graphics? (I have Paint.net too)

EDIT: Never mind, I got it. Oil painting on brush size 1, right?

Yeah, it's a pretty neat effect.

    1) I thought that JPG consumes less bandwidth and is an easier load for dial-up users.
I have consideration for those who may be less fortunate.

    2) I have heard of Poccil's Essentials/Starter Kit, but I had already started developing it and repairing the scripts and other stuff eight months ago with Blizzy & Freakboy's Starter Kit.
I am not in the mood for starting from scratch again and letting all my umpteen hours of amending scripts go to waste.

And let me fill in the blank for you: "It is a 100x more complex and inflexible than Blizzy's Kit."
I said that I wasn't making this a conformist emulative game.

    3) Yeah, I noticed that; But I cannot give each graphic set individual attention without occupying a great amount of time.

    4) Please read the above posts to see if your issue was covered before submitting a reply, thank you.
Battle Backs = Battle Backgrounds, Look for it

Let me just ask, why purposely choose the name "Pokémon XP" if it's being used 3 other times and that it may get confused for them?

To clarify, I did not purposely select this name to be confused with five other projects.
(I found two more online somewhere)
    It was purely coincidental.

I made this eight months ago as a project for my past-time to prevent boredom.
(And I kinda worked hard on making a title graphic for it too)
I did not do research on if the title was currently in use or not, until I was constructing this thread and thought about it currently being used.

    --

    Afterword:

    Ok, under R&D I should:
    • Change battle backgrounds to something less complex.
    • Remodify in-game graphics
Thanks for your criticisms, I'll get back to work after I'm through with Developer's Block (Variation of Writer's Block).
I did a marathon of working on this in another country over the twenty-one day course of winter break so I'm pretty pooped at the moment.

Um, Jake? IIRC, I was the guy who first really used the name "Pokémon XP", and that was only as a domain name. Besides, how many of those other projects by this name actually got completed?

Don't criticize the guy so much.

I didn't see any others have Pokémon XP as an actual competed game when I was looking it up either.

    Well, mine's not really completed.
I just have the basics of the storyline (and its branches) established.

I'm still stuck working on Chapter 3 in the game. 15 Chapters remain with umpteen hours of work left until I complete at least a
    Release Candidate version.
    (Current Storyline: 18 Chapters Total = 5 Linear + 5 Neutral + 4 Hero + 4 Villain)

look good. keep it up . i wait for you

Based on other's opinions, my game isn't too good graphics-wise.
But, thanks for the motivation. I'll try to get back to this project when I can.

    So basically,
    • Tileset & character sets look better when oiled
    • In-game graphics look better when pixelated
I'm just glad at least one of my radical ideologies towards a modernized Pokémon game was accepted.

And I need that macro too, because I had to oil up the graphics manually and doing that for the rest of the character sets might take a couple hours.

    Back on topic:

    New map screenshots added.
    Change Log added.

Yeah, I found it on Google when I thought about the title being used by other projects.
    And welcome to the community.

Sure, I'm not really working heavily on it right now.
    It's about 43.1 Mb Uncompressed
And 28.4 Mb Compressed as a ZIP file
    (Most of which are music)

And thanks for the macro, that saved me a couple hours.
