This thread is about the Gym Leaders of Unova. Which one is the best? Some carry admirable traits, others carry nice Pokemon which makes them seem cool. You can include their towns which adds to their attractive taste and personality. Here is my opinions of them:

Cilan, Chili and Cress: Hmm... they certainly don't carry good looks! My main reason for liking them is that they own an incredibly stylish restaurant in a peaceful, beautiful town. But it was very fun fighting them and levelling up so they don't bust your buns. I give them a 6/10 on the awesomeness ratio.

Lenora: How could anyone dismiss this hardy, mother-like archaeologist? She even owns a museum with a Gym inside it! I love her town, too. It's artistic, comfy and carries a personality which screams 'perfection'! Another reason for liking her is how fun it as to fight her. I loved answering all of the questions so suddenly find her lair, so thrilling! ^^ 8/10.

Burgh: Well... hmm... I sure as hell wouldn't want to be caught in his Gym! I mean, running through thick layers of honey then being harassed by clowns? No thank you! His city is okay, but the fact that you can never get Castelia Cone ticks me off. His traits, well... there isn't much to count. 3/10.

Elesa: Here is one fine girl! She is a role model AND a fashion model! Plus she has got a cute collection of Emolga's. My main reason for liking her is her faith in people, her knowledge of what really matters! Her city? You can level up like hell in the Small Court, compete in the Battle Subway and even dress up your cute as Pokemon! 9/10.

Clay: He seems okay to me! I like his 'Speak your mind and live honestly' attitude. Driftveil City, it is okay, but there isn't much to do except waste all of your Poké on herbs and Moomoo milks. His Gym, uh... I've seen better... I like his secret lair though, where he just sits there... eating rock candy... I mean, c'mon! He would have mined that crystal ages ago if it was actual crystal. 6/10.

Skyla: WOOHOO! This girl is rockin' it old school! She owns an airport, goes wherever she pleases and helps Pokemon in distress from the skies! Her Gym rocks too, it is super fun and everyone is easy, but in a fun way. She has this personality similar to my best friend, Sky. Being kind and helpful, (her nice hair is worth mentioning) staying awesome through good and bad. YAY! 10/10.

Brycen: Already?! Oh well... I like his town even though their is nothing to do, but it has this homey and fresh thing going on. His Gym? Wowza! I like the idea of skating around and battling, while still maintaining elegance and awesomeness. His personality... hmm... well, he was an actor, that counts for something, doesn't it? Mind you, he couldn't have been a good one if he had no choice but to go back to fighting trainers. 5/10.

And finally, Dreydon: His city, always moving on, never stopping with development... sometimes this is a good thing, other times, it flaming stinks! His Gym isn't that fun either, it has no activities which make it noticeable and remember-able! (is that right?) Mind you, he has got some cool things about him. Like owning awesome dragon type? Hell yeah, old man! 7/10.

That concludes my theory of the Gym Leaders of Unova. My favorite is Skyla, Elesa is second, Lenora is third. Skyla is at the top because she is like me and my best friend, who ARE rocking it, by the way. Elesa because she is confident and cool, also like me. Lenora because she is awesome and owns everything I want.

  • I really liked Elesa. She was just...diverse. How she's both a strong gym leader and a supermodel is pretty cool, and she tries to make every battle look as gorgeous as possible.

You would not believe how many times I lost to Clay, and rechallenged him again and again (both in BW and BW2)

I see you're keeping this to BW, so I'm just going to talk about the the Leaders you mentioned as well.

    Cilan, Chili and Cress. I liked their Gym puzzle, quite appropriate for them being the first Gym in a region that was supposed to reboot the series - for me it actually was the first time playing Pokemon. I think their personalities were alright, young Gym Leaders facing young trainers while tending a cute Pokemon cafe. What I didn't like was the fact that they weren't there for the showdown at N's castle along with all the other Leaders. Which led me to believe that they were actually the Shadow Triad, but I guess that would've made a way too crazy twist {XD}

Lenora. I really liked her Gym, I really liked Nacrene City actually. But her Gym being a museum, library and, well, a Gym was really great. And her being an archaeologist, the museum's director and a Gym Leader, also great. Personality-wise, the mother-like figure, both gentle and strong, also very believable. Man, I really, really wanted her and Hawes to have a baby in the sequel!

Burgh. I have mixed feelings about him. I liked him in Nacrene, when he returned because of his artist's block, but I just can't understand why he took the straight road through Pinwheel Forest when we went chasing after Team Plasma. Sure, let the inexperienced kid to wander through a dark forest, filled with Pokemon and Trainers, and the Gym Leader can just stroll to the exit. What? I disliked his Gym as well, the honey walls were just weird. And while I get the honey, with him being a Bug specialist, what was up with the clowns, what do clowns have to do with Bugs or art?

Elesa was the first Leader that I didn't manage to beat on my first try. So I think she's great, both as a Gym Leader and as a person, very optimistic, and she helped convince Bianca's dad to let her travel. I think she'd be a nice person to be around and have fun in the city. Nimbasa city, of course.

Clay also put up a good fight, I think his Gym was the most difficult for me. Now, I didn't really get what a cowboy is doing in Unova, and I still don't know what business he does, but he seems to have gotten his fortune through honest means. I would've expected him to be more helpful outside of his Gym, and you know, not let the Plasma grunts go after battling them in the Cold Storage...

Skyla, I guess, isn't really memorable to me. She has a goofy hairstyle, her Gym is crazy with all the canons, and her team is pretty weak. I'll hand it to her though, she's just so cheerful, I'd take her with us on that night out with Elesa. I think they're already best friends, right? Though I guess we all know who'd win if they were to battle, hehe.

Brycen. I liked him so much, I was so sad to see him retire as a Leader in the sequels! He was a movie star in the past, got injured and started training Pokemon. Alone, in an icy cave. How cool is that? It always seemed to me that while he must be still young, he looks old because of the hardships he's had to face. I just can't understand why they had him go back to acting, he was so cool as a Gym Leader.

Drayden is one of my favorites. He's the Mayor of such a beautiful town, he grows that epic beard and he trains Dragon types by wrestling with them, I can't even dare calling him an old man. What I didn't like about him: his English name. They should've kept the iris/lily theme, and use his German or Spanish name, so Lysander or Lirio, those names just sound so elegant.

That being said, my favorite would be Elesa. Coolest Gym in the coolest Unova city, great personality and design, and a strong team. Honorable mentions: when it comes to strength, it would be Clay, hands down, his team was really hard to beat for me. Design-wise, Brycen and maybe Drayden, if it wasn't for the name.

  • Dre's my favorite. He was actually challenging, and not in a cheap Excadrill way (*Stares at a Clay menacingly). He was nice and respectful when he lost. And his Pokémon were excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed battling him.

PS Spiteful Note: He's way better than Iris. >:3

  • I'm going to go with Elesa. She has a cool design (in both games) and personality she was the leader I probably lost to the most times in both games as well.

She also resides in the best city on the game, it has a sports stadium. <3

  • Drayden is the best. He used the type that generally has the strongest Pokemon.
    In addition:
    • It is only weak to ice and dragon.
    • It resists fire, water, grass, and electric
    • The only type that resists it is steal.
    • Dragon Dance is one of the most dangerous status moves in the entire series

Hey guys, thanks for the reply! To Miau, yes, your details were more detailed then mine. I have GOT to work on that! xD And I totally agree! Clowns don't have ANYTHING to do with art, honey or bugs. So like, what the hell? What annoyed me is that there was no Bug Catchers, they were fun and original! Plus Lenora should sooo have a kid!

SnivySmiley (cute name!) With Clay, one tough cookie! His Exandrill made me lose so many times, but I just got my Samurott (or Dewott, can't remember) used Water Pledge and finished that little bugger off!

Trainer Timothy. WHAT HAS EVERYBODY GOT AGAINST IRIS? This is starting to get racist, lol. Dreydon Has his moments, but his beard is more like a lawn mower then facial hair! xD

Nuke. I got through her really easy! I just got a Krokorok and beat her buns! Fun as! I like the stadiums, perfect for leveling up when you wanna reach 100. Btw, Elesa is so cool, but I preferred her with blonde hair. :c

Crystal Noel. Dragon type is pretty over powered! Two weaknesses, wowza! Dragon Dance is awesome, I imagine a cute little dinosaur doin' 'The Dino Dance.' I should despise Play School... but too late!

Thanks again for the replies! I wasn't expecting such a turn out!

  • As much more in depth the Unovan Gym Leaders characters were to some of those that we've faced in past games, I really didn't care for them all that much. At least, not the ones in the original Black and White themselves (I did like Cheren and Roxie from B/W2).

If I had to go with one, I would say Clay. He has a no nonsense character, and put up one of the tougher battles I can remember against a Gym Leader. Plus, the fact that he helped build the PWT that debuts in B/W2 is a pretty significant accomplishment, too.

  • Drayden for me, he has a REALLY epic gym in B2W2, and DAT MUSIC... X3 I also liked the actions of the twin Dragons in the gym :)

I also liked Elesa's catwalk gym in B2W2, due to the lighting and music :)
And I beat her with a Lv30 Dewott and Lv25 Flaaffy, defeated her on my first try due to Static paralyzing Zebstrika! :)
