  • Firstly, I DID NOT COME UP WITH THIS IDEA! Look here: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=161933 for my inspiration.

Secondly, yeah, this is basically a mono-pokemon run with evolved pokemon. Your point is?

    Rules:

    1. You may only use 1 pokemon in battle after you capture that pokemon. (exceptions: Magicarp, Abra, Ralts vs Poochyena in early RSE)

    2. You may only have 5 HM slaves. Still, there are only 8 HMs at most and one or two TMs with practical uses outside of HMs (like Dig, for instance), so you'll be OK.

    3. If the game does not require it to fully beat the game, capturing pokemon is frowned upon (wasted money in my opinion). FR and LGers, you HAVE to have 60 pokemon, and the rest of you can capture however many you like (When I did FR, I ended with 65 pokemon caught, for example)

    4. You may evolve your pokemon. Actually, you SHOULD evolve it.

    5. HM slaves must not be used in battle, but must be in your team for the Elite Four, and if there is an exception to rule 1 (like Magicarp or Abra, or Ralts vs Poochyena), then it must be the HM slaves that battle.

    6. To "Beat the game", you must...

RBY - Beat the Elite Four.
    GSC - Beat Red.
RS - Beat the Elite Four.
FrLg - Beat the Elite Four a second time.
Emerald - Beat Steven, TRY to do the Battle Frontier.
DP - Beat the Elite Four.
P - Do the Mt. Stark storyline, possibly beat the Elite 4 twice.
    HgSs - Beat Red.

    7. Here are the list of usable pokemon (and people who have completed the challange with them):

    Red and Blue.

    Thank you Pokearth!

Yeah, that should be all. If there is another before the cutoff point (Mt. Moon in RBY, Union Cave in GSC, Granite Cave in GSC, and Eterna City in DPPt), tell me.

8: You may not trade in a pokemon until you have defeated the challange for that game AT LEAST ONCE! It must come at level 5 (gen 1 or FrLg), or be in an egg (The rest). NO SPECIAL MOVES FOR TRADE-INS! (eggs, events... none of it.)

9: You must get the pokemon at the first opertunity.

    Yeah... I think that's it.

    Helpful hints:

1: Read through the thread for movesets and suggestions!

2: DON'T DO QUILFISH IN GSC! While it IS there, it is nearly imposible to get the call for the swarm early on.

    3: Emulators are allowed.

4: You need a good starting point? Blastoise in Fr/Lg, Infernape in DPPt, Blazekin in RS, Swampert in Emerald, Gengar in GSC, Venusaur in RBY, and Feraligatr in HgSs. Most of them can cheeze their way through the game (except Venusaur and Gengar, but they are the best)

5: If you're thinking of a challange, maybe someone else has done it! Look through this list to see who finished before, so you can see what they had trouble on...

    Mondays suck - Crobat, Leafgreen.
    batmon - Nidoking, Red.

More as I think of them...

  • I finally have to do a Magikarp run, so it's time to do one now. I'll start in Red version.

Update: Started with Squirtle, and went straight to Mt.Moon, evading as many trainers as possible. Bought me a Magikarp, named 'Karp'. I'm so creative.
Squirtle is a Lv.16 Wartortle now and by the time Magikarp learns tackle so it can Fight by itself, it will probably be in the mid 20s....

  • Treeko - Grovile - Sceptile
    Torchic - Combusken - Blazeken
    Some of many errors:
    Treecko - Grovyle - Sceptile
    Torchic - Combusken - Blaziken

Anyway, I'm using Torchic in emulated Sapphire. I already have 5 badges. It's bold girl nad now Blaziken lv 42.

Thanks for catching those... yeah, I was in a hurry to get this done (Didn't have a lot of time), and a lot of time was spent looking at the Pokearth. I did learn some cool stuff there though: Did you know that Goldeen is catchable with an Old Rod in Union cave? Neither did I, but that added it to the challange.

Anyway, I'll be restarting my Blastoise (FR) run from the other thread. I still remember MetaKnight...

    Level 99.
Surf, Ice Beam, Return, and EQ (the last two were filler mostly, helped me take down trainers)

  • I knew there was Tentacool availiable early on, i remember meeting one while looking for Quilfish, but Goldeen? That's new for me, i thought you can't get it before Ecruteak.

Whatever, after some major Magikarp grinding with the help of Wartortle, Magikarp finally learned Tackle at level 15. From that point, Karp fought by itself, and sometimes even OHKOd Lv.2 Rattatas when it got a crit. Quite some time later, it reached level 20 and evolved. Then, i fought all the skipped trainers, and arrived at Cerulean now.

    Spr_1b_130.png

    Karp / Gyarados Lv. 24
    93 HP, 77 Atk, 56 Def, 57 Spd 59 Spc

    ~ Tackle
    ~ Splash
    ~ Bite
    ~ Water Gun

Gyara's Special is not too bad here, and the physical movepool is extremely limited, so i think i'll use a set like Surf, EQ, Boltbeam. Rockslide would be an option, but it's slightly inaccurate, which is never a good thing on solos.

  • I will not let this be forgotton!

Yeah, I have my own challange to do. A Blastoise run in FR, to be exact. And I have to admit, 13 hours in, I've made a little progress.

    - Named myself B. Wayne (Batman!)
    - Got a Squirtle named Robin.
    - My rival (Who else but the Joker?) got Bulba, and got owned.
    - I trained to level 13, and fought the Joker again, killing him with Water Gun.
    - Robin evolved!
    - Brock went down. (Current moveset: Water gun and Tackle. That's all that matters.)
    - I got through Mt. Moon and Routes 3 and 4.
    - Misty got owned! (Current moveset: Water Gun, Bite, Mega Punch.)
    - My rival got owned!
    - Nugget bridge and all the way to Bill defeated.
    - Defeated a Rocket Grunt with Dig.
    - Caught a level 16 Oddish named "Alfred". (For Cut, Flash, and Sleep Powder)
    - Went through the SS. Anne
    - Robin evolved again!
    - The Joker was owned!
    - Down went Lt. Surge (Moveset: Water Pulse, Mega Punch, Dig, Brick Break.)
    - Rock Tunnel down.
    - Rival again defeated.
    - Caught a Dodou named "Batwoman" (see where this is going?) (For Fly)
    - Erika down. (Moveset: Water Pulse, Return, Dig, Brick Break)
    - Giovanni fight 1 down.
    - Pokemon tower down.
    - Caught a Snorlax named "Co. Gordon." (For strength, Surf, and Yawn)
    - Defeated Koga (Current moveset: Surf, Return, Ice Beam, Brick Break)
    - Joker yet again defeated.
    - Giovanni fight 2 gone.
    - Sabrina and the Karate king down.
    - Caught a Golduck in the Seafoam Islands named "Mr. Fox" (For water moves and Rock Smash)
    - Caught a Ratacate in the Cinnibar Mansion named "Batmobile" (For Dig, Thief[just cuz], and Rock Smash)
    - Defeated Blaine.
    - On the Sevii Islands run 1, the double battles caused Alfred to evolve! He'll be a Bellosom when I get the sun stone.
    - Sevii Islands run 1 done.
    - Defeated Zapdos (didn't need to capture, have all 60 necissary)
    - Defeated Giovanni's last time.

    Blastoise "Robin" @ Leftovers.
    Level 83.
    Naive
    Surf
    Ice Beam
    Return
    Earthquake

Gloom "Alfred" level 21 (Cut, Flash. Also Sleep Powder for catching purposes.)
Doduo "Batwoman" (yes, it is a girl) level 23. (Fly)
Snorlax "Commisioner Gordon [really Co. Gordon]" level 30. (Surf, Strength, Yawn for catching purposes.]
Golduck "Mr. Fox" level 32 (I think). (Waterfall eventaully, Rock Smash)
Raticate "Batmobile" level 32 (I think). (Dig, Thief[Trying to stop his offensive options])

    HOW TO CAPTURE POKEMON:

In FR/LG, you are forced to capture 60 pokemon to activate a sidequest. There are many ways to do this, and here are a few!

1: NEVER USE YOUR ONE POKEMON! He will likely be to powerful and just completely overwhelm the wild ones.

2: Make sure you have a good sleeper on the team. Considering a lot of Cut pokemon are Grass types, this should be simple. Snorlax is a great lategame asset as well.

3: Whittle them down and then sleep in the case of Sleep Powder, Hypnosis, ect. In the case of Yawn, make it your first move.

4: Make sure your pokemon has a DECENT move, but not to powerful. Use this move to whittle things down. (Snorlax's strength will not KO most things you want to capture, for instance, but keep Surf for just in case)

I'll have a go with it on Red to start with. I'm going to go with Nidoran (M) since he gets caught early in the game, and he evolves to Nidoking. My second favorite pokemon ever. :)

    Update:
    Started Red
Blah blah blah Caught Nidoran (M)
Named him Lulwarrior at Lvl 4
    Currently training in Viridian Forest

    Team:
    Lulwarrior Lvl 10
    Leer
    Tackle
    Horn Attack

Another update, I love Pokemon Red :)

Anyway I beat my Rival, went through the Viridian Forest, trained Lulwarrior to Lvl 15 before Brock. After he was Lvl 16, this battle was very tough because I forgot that Nidoran learns double kick on level 40 and not 12 like I thought. So I had to spam Horn Attack on his Geodude and Onix After the battle, Lulwarrior evolved.. Now Lulwarrior is Lvl 16 and heading to Mt. Moon.

    Team:
    Lulwarrior Lvl 16
    Leer
    Tackle
    Horn Attack
    Poison Sting

Another update went through Mt. Moon, smashed everyone in the area, got a Moon Stone for evolution, went to Misty with Lulwarrior at lvl 21. That Bubblebeam was REALLY close to killing Lulwarrior. Left with him at Lvl 23 and evolved him with the Moon Stone to Nidoking. Destroyed all of my Rivals pokemon on the SS Anne in one hitAbout to battle Lt. Surge now.

    4223899726_2b8bcee0d9_o.jpg

    Team:
    Lulwarrior Lvl 30
    Bubblebeam
Thrash (Might replace with a TM once I find a good one)
    Horn Attack
Poison Sting (Will be replaced with Thunderbolt after Lt. Surge)

    HM Slave Lvl 6
    Cut

Yet another update, I beat Lt. Surge effortlessly since Lulwarrior is part ground and Surge's strongest attack is Thunderbolt. Got to Rock Tunnel, I will go through a blind walk since I would have to catch 10 pokemon and that seems like cheating the challenge.

    Again with the updates :)

I got through Rock Tunnel blind because I didn't feel like cheating the challenge and catching 10 pokemon. Then got to Celadon City and beat Erika, she was a little tough since at the time I had no ice moves because I forgot to give the little girl Water for Ice Beam. Now I'm about to destroy the Rockets under the Casino. Wow I'm halfway through the game, and I just started this 2 hours ago. :D

Another update (Wow, I am coasting through this game, the only challenge I see in the future will be Sabrina and the Rival's Alakazam) I skipped all the trainers in cycling road, and destroyed Koga. the only thing he did to hurt me was he used self destruct with his last pokemon, Weezing which confused me because he went Kamikaze on me.

Again with the updates, I beat Silph Co., went to Sabrina really scared but then I remembered that Alakazam has a horrible defense so I just used Horn Attack and prayed that she didn't use Psychic. I think I'm going to teach Lulwarrior Strength since it is more powerful than Horn Attack, and I'm trying to do this run with the least amount of pokemon in the pokedex(It would be 4 because of Bulbasaur then the Nido Evolution line)

    Lulwarrior Lvl 53
    Surf
    Ice Beam
Horn Attack (Might be replaced by Strength)
    Thunderbolt
    HM Slave
    Cut

Update, first I got to Cinnabar Island, went to that mansion place, got lost but then found the secret key, after that I swept Blane easily with Surf. I see the same thing happening soon with Giovanni.

Update again, I made Giovanni my slave by one hitting all of his pokemon

    Final update!!!

I beat Blue for the final time, mission accomplished. The only challenge I had was Loreli since all of her pokemon knew Ice, Psykik, and Water moves which are all super effective against Lulwarrior. Bruno was as easy as pie. Then Agatha was second challenging with her deadly hypnosis then Dream Eater Combo. Lance was so easy because of Ice Beam. The challenge at this part was since all my moves are low PP to start and I only had one ether I had to choose Surf since it seemed like I would use it the most. Then I swept Gary easily, the only pokemon I have been scared of the whole time (his Alakazam) it only was able to use 2 moves the whole time in the game (Barrier). So since I am done this challenge, screenies from the hall of fame :)

Don't mind the time, I played on a Rom and sped up some parts (It went up to like 10x sometimes)

  • Lost my Gyarados savefile on Red, instead I will do a Zubat-Golbat-Crobat run on Leaf Green.
    Currently planning my moveset.

Update: Started with Bulbasaur (now a boxed Lv.16 Ivysaur), beat Brock, caught Zubats until I got an adamant one. At level 7 =/
I had trained it up 5 painful levels up to level 12, but then I overestimated its power, challenged a Youngster and got destroyed by his first Pokemon, a Rattata. Great.
So I'm back at this point now:

    Spr_3f_041.png

    Zubat / Zubat m Lv.7 @ /
    Adamant Nature / Inner Focus
    24 HP, 12 Atk, 10 Def, 59 SpA, 11 SpD, 13 Spe
    - Leech Life
    - Astonish
    - /
    - /
    meh...

    U
pdate: Leveled zubat up until it learned Bite, which - despite the horrible Sp.A stat - did a lot more to stuff than Astonish and Leech Life. Beat the trainers I skipped and somewhere halfway through Mt.Moon, Zubat learned Wing Attack and shortly after, evolved into Golbat. Then, everything became easy. Misty got swept at Lv.24 before going up to Bill, the SS.Anne was an OHKo fest, even Surge caused no problems, only one of his underlings who had a Magnemite. Saved near Cerulean, going to Rock Tunnel next.

    Spr_1b_042.png

    Golbat / Golbat m Lv.38 @ /
    Adamant Nature / Inner Focus
    117 HP, 77 Atk, 67 Def, 54 SpA, 69 SpD, 96 Spe
    - Leech Life
    - Astonish
    - Wing Attack
    - Secret Power
    Using RB sprite for lulz.
As said above, since it has Wing Attack, it destroys everything with ease, except for those pesky Magnemites.
I already know its Hidden Power type (5 Meowths with Pickup ability FTW), it's Flying, which has no use for me. At all.

More Update: Rock Tunnel was quite tough, I had nothing to hit the Rock types in there, Astonish doesn't count. Finally arrived at Lavender after struggling a lot in there. Beat rival. Got Return TM. Arrived at Cerulean, bought Shadow Ball TM (why the hell is it more expensive than everything else?), beat Erika, got the tea, beat Fighting gym in Saffron. Next will be Team Rocket. A lot of them.

    LOL Edward / Golbat m Lv.50 @ /
    Adamant Nature / Inner Focus
    153 HP, 103 Atk, 92 Def, 72 SpA, 90 SpD, 130 Spe
    - Poison Fang
    - Shadow Ball
    - Aerial Ace
    - Return
Bulbapedia says it's based on a vampire bat, so this annoying (mainly because of its omnipresence in some peoples heads) vampire novel series
came to my mind. And my Golbat is male, so yeah
The moveset improved a lot since my last post, thanks to Shadow Ball I can now hit anything that's not Steel, which means Magnemite. Sadly I now lost the ability to catch Pokemon by just using Golbat (neutral LL didn't OHKO ANYTHING), this means I'll have to get my Ivysaur (knows Sleep Powder) back from the box, when I need to catch some more. Currently I have 32, I think it's not too bad.

The Slaves are still the 5 Meowths, the only difference is that one of them stole some Exp Golbat should have gotten in a double battle I accidentally ran into.

  • Update: Beat Elite 4. I can't described all the stuff I did since the last update, but here are the Elite 4 battles:

Lorelei: Return crit OHKOd Dewgong, Shadow Ball 2HKOd Slowbro (if not counting healing items), and OHKOd Jynx. Lapras was barely 2HKOd, Cloyster stalled me for a while, stupid Protect and healing Items.
Bruno: Easy. The Fighters were OHKOd, the Onixes couldn't hurt Golbat.
Agatha: Easy. Only her Golbat and Arbok did even survive something, but did no damage.
Lance: Harder. Because of Gyara's Intimidate, his Pokemon were hard to take down. In the end of the battle, against Dragonite, I had to heal (with Full Restore) for the first time because Golbat was paralyzed and at extremely low HP.
Gary: Pidgeot used Sand-Attack once and got KOd. Alakazam died to one Shadow Ball. Rhydon needed 3 Steel Wings, one of them missed. Exeguttor could survive an Aerial Ace and then annoyed me by using Sleep Powder and getting healed why I used the Poke Flute. Gyarados was like Lance's: It cut my attack, but didn't do much else. Charizard was the hardest here, Fire Blast did a lot to Golbat, but in the end I won by using one more healing item (this time a Max Potion was enough)

    LOL Edward / Golbat m Lv.88 @ Leftovers
    Adamant Nature / Inner Focus
    262 HP, 177 Atk, 158 Def, 123 SpA, 154 SpD, 225 Spe
    - Steel Wing
    - Shadow Ball
    - Aerial Ace
    - Return
I don't have 60 Pokemon yet (54 at this moment), so I need to catch some more before I can finally get the national dex and evolve Golbat into Crobat. I think I even could level it up to 100 with all the Rare Candys my Meowths (reduced to 4 in favor of Lapras) collected.
Well, at least they produced enough PP Ups to let me max out any move's PP (except for Return which I am going to replace by Sludge Bomb as soon as I get it, but I'm having 3 more PP Ups in the bag)

gamer691: I would delete Cut in Blackthorn, and keep Surf, Surf is far better than Cut. As a normal move, Return (or Strength, if you're not playing on an Emulator and don't want to wait) should work a lot better

  • Update: Completed National Dex. Leveled Golbat up to 100 with collected Rare Candys. Rushed through Sevii Mainquests. Beat Elite 4 again.
Lorelei: Sludge Bomb OHKOd Dewgong, Cloyster was 2HKOd, used its turn to confuse Crobat. This gave Jynx enough time to use Lovely kiss and Attract, but it got KOd regardless. Lapras did some damage with Ice Beam and then died. Same with Piloswine (here it was Blizzard).
Bruno: Annoying. After 3 X-Attacks I could maybe 3HKO or 4HKO the Steelixes. The rest was easy.
Agatha: Easiest. Only Arbok survived a hit, but did no serious damage.
Lance: Annoying. Mainly because of the paralysis. Crobat OHKOd his entire team with 1 or 2 X-Attacks, but had to take some serious hits and use a Full Restore later on.
Gary: Used 1 X-Attack and then OHKOd Heracross. Same happened to Exeggutor (why so early?) and Alakazam. T-Tar could barely survive a Steel Wing, and always got a Full Restore, took some time to die. At least I got +2 defense in the process. Gyara was almost killed by a single Sludge Bomb, the poisoning it got from it KOd it, but it heavily it Golbat with something (probably Hyper Beam) before dying. Last was Charizard, first I had to heal and then it survived a hit, in that time it did some massive damage, but I won.

    Final
    Team Crobat:
    Spr_3r_169.png

    LOL Edward / Crobat m Lv.100 @ Leftovers
    Adamant Nature / Inner Focus
    317 HP, 223 Atk, 199 Def, 148 SpA, 185 SpD, 336 Spe
    - Steel Wing
    - Shadow Ball
    - Aerial Ace
    - Sludge Bomb
Here you can see pretty clearly how much difference EV training can make, Crobat has a maximum attack of over 300, and this here got despite being Adamant hardly more than 200...
And to make it even worse, Crobat learns nothing, really nothing that can hurt Steels.
    Overall pretty cool, though
