In Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Lance was our champion. He's dragon-type specialist, and makes various appearances through game-play to help take Team Rocket down. Overall, what your opinion on him? Are you a fan of this guy, or not so much? If not, why aren't you? When facing him, how much of a difficult have you had? What Pokémon did your team consist of, if you remember?

  • Lance becomes extremely easy whenever you use a Feraligatr with Ice Punch. Considering his massive Water/Ice weakness, a Feraligatr shatters his team. I see him as a boss, personally. His hair and cape just exemplify "awesome and strong". I had little difficulty due to that "strategy" I mentioned before, but if my Feraligatr was down for the count, I had a fair bit of difficulty, especially when it comes down to his Dragonite squad.

  • Just another little stone on my road to being the very best. Nothing ever stood in the way of my Dragonite, even three Dragonites.

I do think he should have played a bigger role in sidequests, though. That would be pretty cool.

  • I thought that the role he played was fairly large. the storm on the rocket base was the best ;). his party was a somewhat difficult one if you didn't have the resources to defeat it.

Personally, I loved seeing having him around; he made an excellent addition to the story. While battling him, I've had a pretty hard time go up against him. My team wasn't too well-prepared back then, and my strongest Pokémon was Typhlosion; with this, I wasn't able to get much of his Pokémon taken down at all, sadly. To get him beaten, I've had to rely on a lot of recovery items. If it weren't for those, it would've taken me much, much longer.

I've always liked Lance. In RBY, he really didn't do anything (except stand as a roadblock between you and your rival), but in GSC, he grew to have some (albeit small) role in the story. I enjoyed seeing him earlier in the game, and then again in the Elite Four. I initially had some trouble beating his Dragonite squad (didn't have a very good team when I first challenged him), though they became very easy on subsequent attempts. Still, I've always thought that Lance made a fitting champion (given that Red disappeared to Mount Silver), and I enjoyed his speeches and the glory of beating him for the first time many years ago.

  • First time I defeated him was sooo difficult because I was still a Pokemon noon xD
Ut for his team, I always prepare a Pokemon that can use an ice type move so I can make em faint easily :P
But without a Pokemon that can use ice type attacks, I have a little trouble to beat him, only a little :P

PS: Lance is the definition of awesome, his cape, his hairdoo and the type of Pokemon he uses :P

  • It was nice having him join you in the Team Rocket Hideout, that was cool at least.

But when it comes to battling him, I didn't care for him in this game because his Pokémon didn't exactly have great movesets, other than Hyper Beam on his physical attackers. He was much stronger in HGSS, but here not as much considering how many Pokémon can learn Electric and Ice-type attacks to use against him.

I think Lance set a good example for what Champions should be like throughout one's journeys through the Pokemon games. A Champion that actually goes out into the world and occasionally helps. It bores me to tears when there's a champion like Diantha that shows up maybe once or twice and contributes near f-all to the plot.

  • On my first playthrough of Silver version. I remember fighting him mainly with my Feraligatr and Lapras. realy glad I had taken the time to catch Lapras in Union cave. Ice Beam realy helped out ALOT against his Dragonites and my Feraligatr destroyed his Aerodactyl and Charizard.

  • Have never liked champions with type specialties, so Lance isn't that great actually. Character design is fine, cool even, but team diversity is obviously lacking and if you have a reliable ice type attack or even a stronger faster dragon than his tirade of them, you're basically set.

  • When I was little I found Lance to be extremely difficult--in fact, I probably wouldn't've defeated him if someone didn't battle for me. Over time, however, I found him easier to deal with; now, he's not difficult at all. As a Champion, I'm not too fond of him, as I don't really care for Champions who specialize in a specific type (even if only half his team consists of that type, a trait he shares with Iris, Alder, and Steven). However, I really love his Champion theme; it's among my top fave Champion themes. I also like him as a person; I liked how he helped you deal with Team Rocket rather than sit around in the Pokemon League waiting for you to challenge him.

  • I liked how he was the Champion and was actually concerned about the state of the region he was champion of. I can't remember him being especially hard in the original GSC games, so I think I just managed to overpower him with pure levels as I only played Gold and Crystal with a Quilava, Red Gyarados, and Ho-Oh (Gold).

I did find Lance hard at first but that was because Meganium was my most powerful pokemon and pretty much all his pokemon resist grass. But it is quite easy with water/ice pokemon. I like Lance's charracter and design.

  • He was my favourite Elite Four member in RBY, and I was really pleased to see he'd made a return in GSC. His teams were always cool, albeit a tad easy to defeat, especially for an E4/Champion.
