  • Update #17 - Johto 8/16
Took another large break, this time I stopped in the Ice Path and about three months later I got the Rising Badge. As I expected, Clair wouldn't be too easy to beat because exp is spread thin and I have nothing effective against her.

-: I believe I had to fight the Team Rocket admins at Goldenrod before entering the Ice Path? I did that.
-: From what little I remember, the Houndoom was an incredible obstacle, the only reason I beat it was because of some luck regarding Berserker and Brick Break. I might have used some Rare Candies to attempt to get Berserker to outspeed Houndoom but ultimately luck won that battle.
-: Stopped at the Ice Path and later continued at the Ice Path.
-: Fought Claire. Minagawa and Berserker took care of Gyarados, Berserker and Takumi took care of the Dragonair's and Takechiyo was the true MVP against Kingdra by making it fall asleep allowing me to heal my team up after they had all been destroyed by Hydro Pump. Takumi ended up defeating Kingdra but Takechiyo really won it for me.
-: Completed that quiz and recieved the Rising Badge.

  • Update for my Fighting challenge, completed Crystal. In case you're wondering how I have both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, during the "I could be a Gym Leader" event I used my free hack to start with a Tyrogue which evolved into Hitmonchan and then I got the Tyrogue in Mt. Mortar and this on evolved into Hitmonlee.

  • At long last, there you have it, my second Ultimate Monotype Challenge completed!

I just finished Pokémon Y with my Rock-Types and I must say I rather enjoyed this journey through the regions that I went on with them. I started by trading in a Shiny Tyrunt I bred on my copy of Omega Ruby, of course no egg moves and it was level 1 when I traded it so it was a lower level than my starter just like rule #5 states is okay. I really wanted to use both Tyrantrum and Aurorus, I really like both fossil Pokémon and I wanted to play the game through and through using Rock-Types instead of waiting until just before the second gym to get one.

And with the I claim the crown of my second championship :]

I'm going to try a lot harder to finish the rest of my challenges. Volt White is the last game I need to finish with my Bug-Types for my third ultimate challenge, and for Normal-Types all I have are Platinum and Volt White. I'll be working on Volt White for my bugs and Platinum at the same time, will update when at least one is completed. :]

    Black 2 Fighting Monotype Update
    XVJSzoB.png

This was certainly a fun challenge, if not frustrating as hell sometimes. The only real trouble I had in this run was Cheren because my Tepig didn't know any Fighting moves and Riolu was, well, Riolu, and Iris' stupid freaking Archeops which completely destroyed my team the first time I tried going up against her. I had to not only grind my pokémon up a lot (for me anyway), but also use Reflect so Emboar wouldn't be killed in one shot and take down that Archeops using Head Smash.

You will be remembered, my friend.

    TEAM:
    500.gif

    Baconator the Emboar (Lv. 58)
    Male
Nature: Sassy (Sp. Def up, Speed down)
    Ability: Blaze
    Fire Blast
    Scald
    Head Smash
    Heat Crash

This guy I didn't really use for Fighting-type stuff, more like I just used him because he was part Fighting-type, and also because he was a starter and all that. Of course, I thought I was being smart by giving him Scald, but the burnhax activated maybe twice in the entire game? Meanwhile, Marlon got 3 of those in a row when I was fighting him. I love when that happens. Anyway, this guy was pretty useful all around, and is the sole reason (okay, not true, Mienshao helped out too) I beat Iris' stupid Archeops.

    448.gif

    Aaron the Lucario (Lv. 59)
    Male
Nature: Calm (Sp. Def up, Attack down)
    Ability: Steadfast
    Close Combat
    Shadow Ball
    Swords Dance
Dig (No Earthquake because the TM isn't available until post game. Greeeeeaaattttt.)

Now this guy saved me multiple times throughout, usually when Flying-types were involved. He is also the only reason I beat Skyla, since I used him for the entire fight, or at least most of it. He DID end up soaking up a lot of the experience sometimes though, which I didn't like because I have OCD and my pokémon's levels need to be equal at all times or I freak out. I think Pokémon is the only series where that happens to me, actually. Towards the end I started not using him as much, but he was still a great asset.

    533.gif

    Bunyan the Gurdurr (Lv. 58)
    Male
Nature: Adamant (Attack up, Sp. Atk down)
    Ability: Sheer Force
    Superpower
    Bulk Up
    Hammer Arm
    Stone Edge

Now as you can clearly see, this guy's not fully evolved because I'm using an emulator and therefore can't trade, YAY. At the time that I got him and up until around the 7th gym that wasn't really a problem, but after that he ended up being kind of a dead weight, to be perfectly honest. Shame too, as he would've probably been awesome if he were a Conkeldurr, but you can't really win them all, I guess.

    560.gif

    Craig the Scrafty (Lv. 60)
    Male
Nature: Quiet (Sp. Atk up, Speed down)
    Ability: Moxie
    Brick Break
    Crunch
    Strength
    Hi Jump Kick

Craig is a badass. That's it. You can go home now. ...Okay, fine, I'll say more: as a Scraggy he wasn't the best, but after evolving he basically tore through EVERYTHING. He was also my main man when it comes to dealing with Psychic-types, he even solo'd Caitlin on both my first and second attempt at the Elite 4 (thanks, Iris...). I REALLY thought Caitlin was going to be my biggest problem, but she actually turned out to be the easiest one out of all of them. I would've said that none of the E4 (EXCEPT IRIS) gave me trouble but then there was my first attempt at Shauntal where I barely beat her except that I still lost because screw you, Drifblim has Aftermath so you're dead anyway. Ugghhhhhhhhhhhh.

    214f.gif

Spoonette the Heracross and not a reference to any other user of PC (Lv. 58)
    Female
Nature: Gentle (Sp. Def up, Defense down)
    Ability: Guts
    Megahorn
    Aerial Ace
    Shadow Claw
    Close Combat

Now if I had to give an MVP award to anyone on this team, it would be Spoonette here: not only was she amazing all the way through without any real period where I felt she was slacking, but also because having both Megahorn AND Close Combat is devastating, let me tell you. That's really all I have to say, Heracross is already one of my favourites by itself and this one in particular scored a lot of one-hit KOs with either Megahorn or Close Combat.

    Liu the Mienshao (Lv. 59)
    Male
Nature: Naughty (Attack up, Sp, Def down)
    Ability: Inner Focus
    Bounce
    Reflect
    Hi Jump Kick
    Drain Punch

Now this is another beast sadly overshadowed by the fact that not only is it a latecomer, as it joined the team in-between the seventh and eighth gyms, but also that real awkward period when it was a Mienfoo and died from pretty much anything. After evolving it was pretty awesome, but I had to give up a move for Reflect because Iris, and only Iris really. I only needed it for that goddamn Archeops, every other fight I managed to do without it. Still an awesome pokémon though, and he along with Baconator pretty much saved what little sanity I had left at that point. (It was 2 AM, I had been playing for upwards of four hours straight at that point, put two and two together.)

All right, time to start another monotype since I just finished the Fighting one!

I already started (read: are 5 badges in) Ruby, and that's going pretty well. I'm probably not gonna be able to finish it because I don't have access to Y as of yet, but I'll make sure to get it as quick as possible.
