Plot: - Eleven years after Ash's Sinnoh Pokémon League adventure, he sets out on another one, only to find that many roadblocks have come near him – many of them, being emotional ones, as things just aren't the same without his old friends and him being 'just a kid' anymore.

Prologue Summary: - Ash is in the middle of a sort of self-discovery after many years of being alone. . . Well, he's not techincally alone. He's still got his lifetime partner Pikachu, but will he ever get a 'lifetime partner' that means something else entirely?

Route One, the Kanto Region. Many for kids growing up in his region, was the start of an adventure that prolonged into a damn journey. For others who had a one-sided goal, rather than an aspired dream – they just went to the Indigo League, and took off that away. . .'Stupid kids,' mumbled Ash, how it was good to be young. Mom joked about how he was still young, but fruitless he was indeed.

Aside from the Orange Islands and The Battle Frontier, he hasn't won anything else. . . Shelves and trophy cases remained emptied for years since that last Sinnoh battle with Paul, so he gave up. 'Stupid kids, stupid dreams.' So, Ash Ketchum unofficially retired from Pokémon training and only let his Pikachu become his permanent companion or – 'part-time-pet' rather, he lived with his mother, went to school, etc.

Still hasn't found love yet. Then again, will that ever matter? As a kid, Ash thought girls were icky, but as a hormonal teen he found out about sex, flushing intensely at the thought the ever-so-growing-elderly Professor Oak taught him more, and described it precociously (Delia didn't want any harsh words to be used – she's VERY overprotective!).

Though the professor did his teaching, and Ash strayed away after that was said and done. He didn't ever do drugs, get drunk, or smoke. He played with his Pokémon up until a certain day, hour year – when this conversation came about – "Ash, get a job." And so he did. He went to Viridian City and got a job, rented a cozy little apartment nearby the Pokemart – and settled down with Pikachu (thankfully they allowed small Pokémon, as Pikachu still hated being out of its ball to this day.)

Still, no wife. No girlfriend. No child. No plans. Didn't have a care in the world for any mumbo jumbo like that – he lived life as each day passed, and just hoped he didn't die the next day. . .

" – The roaring tides in the Unova Region seem to be –"

Smack. Ash hit the radio-alarm down hard, making it rattle with might as he began to yawn and stretch his arms with grace, thankful he had gotten a wider mattress thanks to a bonus check as of recently.

The twenty-one-year-old raven sat up, slowly to make sure he didn't dizzy himself any further – and scratched his bottom nonchalantly. There, he stretched and let his mouth open to a large yawn as well one more time – to this point, he got up onto his feet, and went into the common area of his tiny one-bedroom apartment to wake Pikachu up.

It slept in a round, ovular-padded-bed when it didn't want to sleep with him (which was most of the them now, as Ash himself had unusual sleeping habits due to maturity). He really was sorry for the Pokémon, secluded to the life of a caged animal instead of training and battling every day; but really, Pikachu was his best friend for life. And foremost, his real only friend left. . .

The little yellow mouse didn't like to be woken up with its aged body, so Ash let it be. Instead he went into the kitchen which was only a few feet away and began preparing breakfast for him and his Pokémon companion. It only took seconds for Pikachu's breakfast, as he poured out some kibble-like substance into a dish, which immediately got its attention and made it awaken from its light-slumber.

Ash smiled, then petted Pikachu and rubbed it's cheek pouches lovingly as it began to stretch. "Morning lazybones." He chuckled and then pushed the bowl with a few scraps (berries in which Ash mixed with his smoothie, edible for humans and Pokémon.) as a morning treat – and the Pokémon nibbled happily.

Still, it wasn't a psychic type, it was no Mewtwo, and it couldn't read it's mind.
"Pokémon can pick up on a trainers anxiety. It's best if you stayed calm in the worst situations, or even at all times, Ash. Just remember that for the future." The dark-skinned breeder petted the rodent-like electric Pokémon's body, cooling it off. . . It was amazing, really. Then, Pacharisu got right back on its feet as soon as Dawn placed the Oran-berry mixture into its mouth, and whazam!

As Ash recalled, Brock was so good with Pokémon. Making Ash always feel like crap about everything, not that he meant to of course. It was a miracle that he'd come across someone as intelligent and wise as Brock, from the start of his journey, onto the very end. So, the aspiring-breeder decided to become a doctor. Ash huffed in amusement, 'All those Joys will surly bring him true happiness. . .' Rolling his eyes in how the perverted teen was always trying to get an amazing, most-fitting girl for himself, made things lighten the mood.

    Crogunk hated it.
    Max hated it.
    Misty hated –

    "Misty."

Pikachu looked up from its food dish, Ash stopped eating for a bit, then put his fork down. "Pika-pi?" All was the electric type was able to say. "Wonder if she has settled down too. . ." He sighed, shaking his head doubtfully as the hotheaded, redhead of a water trainer that possessed the will of a fire type, stung like a poison type, and was as elegant as an ice type – would never simmer down. . . "You remember Misty. Don'tcha?"

Pikachu became elated and it's eyes were brighter than stars. "Pika! Pika pi!" Whatever that meant in Poke-neese, it surly was a response of agreement. It seemed that during their travels Misty preferred the little mouse over anything that Ash had in his party (not that she didn't like Ash's other Pokémon, but still). Pikachu also preferred Misty, sometimes a little TOO much and more than Ash, making the trainers get jealous and in disputes.

Ash laughed, and then bent over to stroke the Pokémon. "Why don't we go visit her after we're done eating?" A visit to Cerulean City.

Now that doesn't sound like a bad idea. . .
