  • Ramo Razez stepped over the shattered glass. It was distinct, even in the mid-night hour because it reflected the light of the moon right into the boy's eyes. He heard a cry just further up ahead the dirt trail. Lightning flashed down his spine as he felt the tendrils of fear grip at him tightly.

Timmy had died like this…Sneaking out of his home to see some wild pokemon…A Pinsir got to him and cut him in half…
Ramo forced the thoughts out of his head as he walked towards the sound. A cold wind picked up and he shivered. When he looked back, a brown creature emerged from the little shack at the end of the path. It was short, even compared to the nine year old. Two the ears that stood out of the top of its head barely reached his hip. With four stubby legs, in ran against him and jumped into his arms.
She made a soft noise yet again, using her long snout to nuzzle the boy's chest. With two beady but cute brown eyes, she looked at his pack. Ramo couldn't help but let out a little laugh as he dug into the small backpack behind him and retrieved a small poffin. The round sweet was pounced upon by the vaguely-fox-like pokemon, who within moments ate the entire thing.
As he fed her another, the boy thought of the last two weeks. He had found a dead Espeon with a small litter of five. He buried the dead pokemon, and fed the five what he could sneak away from his uncle but despite his attempts to feed them, all but one left into the wilderness.
She shivered in the night air. Ramo felt guilt hit him, as he was certain the shed was no warmer than the brisk night air. The Eevee once again curled up to him, whether it was for comfort or for warmth, Ramo could not say for sure.
"One more week, and I'll be able to keep you." He whispered to the Eevee as he ran his fingertips against her soft hair. "I'll be the be-"
A loud screech stopped him from finishing his sentence. With eyes towards the night sky, his mind began to try to recognize the strange noise.
Vampiric Zubats. They must have heard me to talking to Eevee. Is there any place to hide? Urgh..This Eevee is a baby, it wouldn't be able to take on a single Zubat, much less what sounds like a horde of them.
As if detecting the boy's thoughts, the Eevee leaped out of his arms and onto the ground in front of him. Her fangs glittered in the light, but they were small and underdeveloped.
Three objects descended towards them. Each one had a pair of dark blue wings, and had teeth capable of ripping off skin and a long tongue used to leech out life. Ramo's prediction had come true.
The Eevee growled, or at least tried to, but her voice was weak. They came down in an instant, and began to tear at the small pokemon.
Ramo looked around desperately for something to defend her, but only saw the broken glass. Without even hesitating, Ramo picked up the broken glass and threw it full force into the Zubats, hoping to disperse them.
It worked, as two of them fled. However, one stayed unscathed to the glass and charged at Ramo. Terrified, the boy brought up his arms to protect himself. Moments dragged on, but the Zubat never attacked him. Instead, when he opened his eyes, the Zubat lay in an unconscious state, and his small Eevee standing over it with a single paw laying on the deposed pokemon's head.
It almost looks like it is gloating…Ramo thought and slid onto his knees. Using his shirt as a makeshift bandage, he covered the ugly wounds on his hand, and used the rest to cover the Eevee in a shawl. With a silent smile on his face, he gently hugged her.
    She licked at her face.

The next morning, Ramo woke to the sound of alternative rock blasting from his alarm clock. He hurriedly made his way towards it, all the while trying to avoid the mess that littered his bedroom floor. There was a knock at the door, and Ramo looked over to it. He hid his wound in his long sleeve and made a mental note to retrieve a potion from the medicine cabinet later.
"Yes?" Ramo asked outloud as he made it the door.
"Hungry?" Chase answered, opening the door with a cheeky smile.
