  • SURPRISES ARISES WITH MUTUAL DEMISES

    INTRODUCTION:
Hello dear readers! This is my third log I've ever created, and I wanted to make it a little bit more awesome than the average log. Now, I've had my fair share of battles on the smogon ladder, and while I've tried OU for quite a bit, I've found that UU is way more fun for me due to reasons unknown. Having overheard a discussion going on the PC server about broken pokemon, I simply decided "heck yeah, a team full of broken pokes would be awesome", and after some mixing and matching 4 of the top five ended up on my team. After laddering a bit with it, I had a battle that made my blood rush, and after the final breathtaking moments of it I simply decided "wow, this battle is worthy of a real battle log!", and thus, I present to you what I'd like to call a corsolog log of a format that surely should be OU, if not Ubar.

My pokemon and commentary will be in this smexy orange.
chuie's pokemon and moves will be in this stunning red.
Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause

An Ambipom lead is a mixed bag of blessings and curses for my Moltres lead and this team in general. It's a blessing considering how SR will not be up very early in the match, which prevents Moltres from taking that horrible 50% at the moment it switches in. On the other hand, Ambipom = Fake Out, and even though this Moltres have been Ev'd to be able to take a Silk Scarf Fake Out + Return and be able to KO back, it also equals the demise of the fiery bird from turn 2.. However, this is a LO version of Ambipom, which very well might equal that the score will be 5-6 from the start, with his only loss being 20% from LO recoil..
With that in mind, I simply decide to spam off a Fire Blast and hope for the best.

I do not get to fry a monkey, but with even a resisted Fire Blast doing 30%-ish of damage to Blastoise, I'm rather pleased. Moltres is kinda like an improved Blaziken, because nothing really can switch into it's attacks without taking heavy damage, and Blastoise is no exeption. Seeing as I run HP Grass, a KO might very well be a possible result, as it should do around 60-70%. However, the turtle survives by a cannons width, and proceeds to status me with Toxic. In general, this might be a good thing, because now it has an immunity to sleeps and twaves from Venusaur and Registeel, respectively, but since I'm already down to 30%, getting toxistalled is as plausible an option as anything. Thus, after failing to KO the tortoise and doing pitiful damage to Umbreon, I decide to take the opportunity to heal up. After all, Umbreon can't do anything to Moltres, right?

I don't want to rack up toxic damage, so Hitmontop feels like a fairly safe switch-in to whatever could've taken the opportunity to switch-in and threaten with rock-type attacks. However, that damn Umbreon passes that wish to the nearly dead turtle, and in just a few seconds all the remaining damage that Moltres accumulated during the few turns this battle have lasted is essentially his own LO damage. Judging by my opponents previous moves however, it seems like a fairly obvious status move is coming.. and I'm actually right! I'm fairly certain that he'll switch into some resist, but that'll probably be some flying-type of some kind, and thus EQ is out of the question. Whatever he'll bring in will have to take a power whip to the face...

In my experience, there are two things that laugh at a SD Venusaur in UU. The first thing is a fellow swords dancer with Technician and Aerial Ace... and the second one is a Moltres. Now, at this point I decide that Venusaur might be much more useful during the match as a helper for PZ and Aggron than Moltres would be, so I sacrifice the flaming avian without a second thought. No damage tells me that it is either a scarfed or a specs version... either way, if it is locked in Air Slash, Blastoise should be a fairly safe switch-in. (yep, I'm a copycat)

I half-way expected it to stay in, but he simply switched to Umbreon in order to sponge the hit. Now, anything Blastoise'll toss at Umbreon will do pitiful damage.. so what should I do? In the end I decide that Moltres in general is a menace to me, since it puts a hurt on basically everything on my team as well. (as explained earlier, ugh) How to get rid of it? You can perhaps not teach an old dog new tricks, but that doesn't mean that the old tricks are no good! And yes, I run a Scarf Blastoise. The reason why I didn't Water Spout from the beginning was simply that it would ruin the surprise, and if I had made it known that I did run a scarfed Blastoise, he never would've dared to keep Moltres in on it. (and the reason why I didn't use Water Spout this time as well was simply the fact that it might be scarfed as well, and thus Surf felt like it was the superior option) With Moltres out of the way, Venusaur is clear to go. Boo yah!

I'm essentially put in the exact same situation here as I did to my opponent before, however, from experience Torterra does "only" around 50% with EQ to Venusaur. Simply put, if it rock polishes, I can revenge kill it with Technitop, and if it strikes right off the bat, it's scarf PZ/Toise bait. Either way I'm guaranteed at least two attacks, however, he simply decides to set SR up. With Moltres dead from a local storm, SR is no big deal to me, and with Overgrow kicking in as an added bonus, Torterra razes down to it's fellow Grass type (yes, this might be seen upon as proof that Gen I kicks Gen IV's ass anytime lol) With Venu down at 7% though, it seems incredibly prone to a revenge kill..

I had almost forgot about that silly monkey. He returns, probably in order to prevent anything from taking "less" damage, since he'll outspeed Venusaur and hit anything on a switch anyway. I try to literally revenge-kill him again with that monkey, but the ancient art of standing on your head and spinning doesn't get to show off versus that freakape. Instead, he brings in a Spiritomb, which will either WOW me, or attack with a shadow ball or something. Either way PZ feels like a fairly safe switch-in, as it might immediately threaten whatever he brings out. However, as I have no idea what set he's running on that tomb, I just decide to play safe and Dark Pulse away for some possible flinch hax. (I should probably add SR on this team somewhere in order to prevent situations like this..)

Meh, safe alternative it was, but ass damage it did. Since Blastoise is at 87% after SR, Water Spout would still be a fairly powerful alternative, however before I get to attack, he baton passes into the other pokemon we have in common on both our team, his Asstoise. Now, I run HP Grass on this one too (Nothing is worse than having Quagsire wall you), so even though this isn't nearly as powerful as Moltres' HP, it should still leave a dent. He toxics yet another poke of mine, but at this point I'm so obsessed with killing that damned turtle that I do not realize the obvious switch-in...

The thing about CB Aggron is that it is incredibly prone to revenge killing. Now, the only way he is designed is to hit stuff on the switch, and thus I go to Hitmontop in order to trade some life against a switch-in to my benefit. The plan is simply to lure in Tomb by using a fighting-attack, and find out what set it is running by doing damage. The best possible situation would be to manage to get something killed on my side, with Tomb still out, so I can outspeed with Aggron and kill either that or whatever switches in. Thus, I prepare to sacrifice Blastoise.

Now everything is going as expected. I simply ran HP in order to prevent him from switching in Blastoise/catching him on the switch, and with tomb having no lefties = CB version. Now CB Tomb is effortlessly walled by Aggron, and with it locked into Pursuit the switch is fairly obvious. The funny thing is that the same pokes on these teams tend to die at the same time, Moltres fainted first for both teams, and as soon as one turtle falls, the other one follows almost immediately. Ah, irony at work. Now, it is fairly obvious that Ambipom will switch in and kill Aggron, but that will not suffice for my plans, due to it being the beast of this team. In other words, I'll have to rely on PZ to take a low kick, and thus if I can lure out Spiritomb so I can outspeed it with Aggron that would be fantastic.

    Commentary

It is kinda an ass move of me to actually use Tri Attack, but meh, my brain died the moment I chose to use it. (Also, if I got to KO Tomb by accident, Aggron would have no free switch-in, and would easily get killed by Ambipom, and I'm not 100% certain that Mach Punch from Top will KO) Simply put, I decide to stay in on the predicted pursuit in defiance even though I'd do no damage. Heck yeah. Incoming Truck Attack!

Heh, Aggron dies as expected, and with no Fake Out Ambipom dies easily to the fantastic thing called priority. Hitmontop got his revenge, Aggron got to kill stuff, and even though the big surprise of this team (Scarftoise) was revealed early, I had like I had no choice but to do so. Overall a big kudos to Chuie for what was truly a good battle IMO.

  • This log hurt my eyes ;-;

Seriously, the yellow background + the yellow text have got to go. Yellow is about the worst color you can use when formatting a post, lol >.<

Otherwise, the battle was decent as well as the commentary. CB Aggron is indeed quite the beast.
