They are supereffective against Grass, Ground, Flying, and most importantly, Dragon.
They are one of the most useful types, but i agree with it being boring, since there's few ice types.
And they are not weak against Psychic, where did you get that?!
Also, they are neutral against poison types, so they are indeed super against grass/poison. No offense, but i really think you should go back to trainer school, learn your basic types.

Sorry, I didn't quote Yam's post well. I was talking about Poison-types being awful, not Ice.

EDIT: Yeah, like Yams and Darkshiek already said....

Yeah, well if Poison types were so weak why are there so many Zubats around? :P

Because you can never have too many Zubats!!

Thats why there is a challenge in choosing the Posion type, and dual types really help in this challenge.

True, but I'm very lazy, and I got fed up with Blue's Alakazam simply sweeping through my team like a hot knife through butter.

I've decided to start a flying-type challenge, and I'm determined to see it through to the end. I've started a game on LeafGreen, I've got a Charmander and a Pidgey, just heading to get a Caterpie. (I can get Caterpie on LeafGreen, can't I?

Yes, but you have to start with Kanto, and then Johto, then Hoenn, and Then you can do Platinum.

OK, I decided that Flying-types wouldn't be enough of a challenge, so I started again with a Rock-type challenge. This is the one, I will see this through to the end. If I even mention thinking about dropping out in future, you all have permission to virtually slap me.

So anyway, I'm in Cerulean with a level 28 Geodude. I'm training it to level 30 then evolving it before I challenge Misty again. I challenged her twice already. I was out in one Water Pulse.

Question - am I allowed to use a non-Rock pokemon as a sacrifice in the gym battle to heal/revive?

Also, say I'm on my last Pokemon, I use self-destruct and knock out her last pokemon. Who wins in that situation?

If it isn't too late to join, I'd like to sign up for normal. I can't find my Yellow though, so I'll be using Fire Red for Kanto.

EDIT: I found the Yellow, so nevermind!

Phew! I have finally beaten Misty with naught but a Graveler! On literally about the 20th try, after training to level 34, I managed to do it. Her Staryu opened with Harden, I knocked it out with Magnitude. Then her Starmie came along and did the same as it did every time, hit me with a Water Pulse. I thought I was down and out just like all the times before.... but no! Graveler held on! 1HP left! I used Self-Destruct, and I won! Woo-hoo!

I had a Caterpie in my party as "back-up", so that I'd definitely still win after Graveler self-destructed. That's okay, isn't it?

    UPDATE:

    Flew to Pallet Town.
Surfed south of Pallet Town and reached Cinnabar Island.
    Entered the Pokemon Mansion.
Obtained some items and the Secret Key.
Answered all the questions wrong on purpose and defeated all the trainers.
    Defeated Blaine (easiest battle EVER).
To my surprise I found out that Gyarados could learn Fire Blast (lol).
    Went to Viridian City.
Defeated all the trainer's in Giovanni's Gym.
Defeated Giovanni on my second attempt.
Dugtrio was easy - 1 Surf took it down.
Persian defeated my Pidgeot and my Golbat but I defeated it with Gyarados.
Nidoqueen fell down after two Surf's.
I surf'd Nidoking but he knocked out my Gyarados in one hit (Thunder).
Butterfree knocked it out with Psychic.
Rhydon was hard the first time around but Butterfree defeated it thanks to Sleep Powder + Solarbeam tactic (heh heh).
Even though my Pokemon were around ten levels below his I defeated him easily (in the end).

Now, OFF TO VICTORY ROAD (urrgh).

    My Team -

    Butterfree (Level 42)

    Psychic
    Swift
    Sleep Powder
    SolarBeam

    Pidgeot (Level 41)

    Quick Attack
    Sand-Attack
    Fly
    Wing Attack

    Gyarados (Level 42)

    Thunderbolt
    Ice Beam

    Golbat (Level 42)

  • Oh Jeez, I didn't realize that I had been gone for so long. After reviewing five pages of data since my last update, I see that two people, darkshiek and Raseri, have made it to the 4th Generation before I officially added them to the first page. *sweatdrop*

Maybe I'm a bit confused but wanted to clear some things up before I try these:
So even if I was to say try to do Fire, and chose Charmander as my first, then it would be disallowed? O_O?
Oh, Charmander is fine. That rule is only meant for types other than those of the starters.

In addition what counts as completion for like Fire Red, the Elite 4 or the Sevii Islands?
The Elite Four. This is because there were no Sevii Islands for those people playing the original games. ^^

I feel soo sorry for 'Zam17 when she gets back. That's a lot to keep track of.
Yes it is, but I've done it. And you posted that a week ago. =P

    Finished the Challenge!
Congrats! Now we have one more member to the exclusive Champions Club! :D

hello people! since i dont hav nothing to do on my vacations ill continue my monotype tomorrow (if i remember to continue..) btw.. if i finish my bug challenge, can i start again the monotype with another type?
Yep, you can have as many challenges as you want. ^^

iPingu, you have to start with R/B/Y and then go up Gen by Gen
iPingu already started awhile ago, actually.

Got a question because I'm a moron and forgot to switch Lapras with a Ponyta in the PC, in the last rival fight after the E4 I put Lapras out and was just reviving others, it got killed in one hit (the ponyta is low enough that it also would've got OHKOED) so does that instantly disqualify that entire segment or not? Otherwise I'm done with the 1st Gen :S.
No problem, as it was an honest mistake. I may be procrastinative, but I'm not mean like that. ;D

Im taking the Sinnoh Platinum rock type challenge :D
add me to the list please ill update once i catch my Geodude

If im takin the rock challenge can i use a Fighting Rock type?
You must start with the first generation games. Furthermore, there currently exists no Fighting-Rock types. XD

  • Well it is! Only super-effective against Grass, and not even then because half of them are poison-type too. And they melt if anything with a psychic attack looks at them funny.

    You, my friend, are wrong.

CROBAT: Faster, can bite. Even with low special, psychics have s*** defences, and if they don't, they don't hit hard enough to OKAO.
GENGAR: Usually faster, has STAB ghost type attacks (and if you say attack stat is bad, then why is Focus Punch standard?).
SKUNKTANK and DRAPEON: Are Dark type. Nuff said.
ARBOK: Is mentioned because of Earthquake and Shadow Ball, which help.

Plus, the Grass/Poison types HELP more than they hurt, being as you can use them and their alternative STAB.

Oh, and Dragon is only super effective against other Dragons. Why are their attacks used often? What about Bullet Punch? It only hits rare Rock and Ice types super effectively, but it is standard on Lucario, Metagross, and Scizor. Sludge/Sludge Bomb/Poison Jab are a deadly group of STAB attacks.

The hardest challange here is Electric, hands down. You can trade in deadly Ice, Dragon and Ghost types early, and Dark and Steel are unalowed. Psychic and Fire are two of the strongest types in the game, Normals get good movepools, and Waters, Bugs, Flyers, Poisons, and Grasses are common.

I was doing Kanto with my Flying Team and I was doing pretty well but then for some reason I just gave up and migrated them to my Platinum after I beat the Eigth Gym :/
But I really want to do this again but with another type... Do you have any suggestions for a Fire Red because I really wanted to do Psychic but all the Water/Psy Poke's were in Leafgreen which for some reason I cannot find anywhwere for a reasonable price.

Because they are only not-very effective against Steel-Types.

What about Bullet Punch? It only hits rare Rock and Ice types super effectively, but it is standard on Lucario, Metagross, and Scizor.
But it has priority, and is usually used as a finishing move.

Though Poison has a lot of dual-typed creatures to its name, whereas Electric only has Magnezone & Lanturn(and Zapdos if you count the legends). So I think I'll have to agree with you there. ^^

    2. Poison is harder
    3. Poison has Venonatzzz!!!!

BTW. Do I have to start with Blue/Red, because of the Bulbasaur. I want to start in Yellow. Is that ok?

I believe Alakazam said no Dragon, Ice, Steel, Dark, and one other I believe. All pokemon need to be gotten legitly, and preferably before the third gym. There are no Dragon pokemon before the third gym in Kanto (Or Johto/Hoenn :p).

Johto you can get Dratini at Goldenrod which is before the third gym but since in Red you can't nore can you in Hoenn then Dragon can't be done..

    -Update-

I haven't gotten much chance to play. I caught a Rattatata before I went into Viridian forest and leveled it up to 12. I'll challenge the gym once I level him up twice, so he learns Hyper Fang, a very good move in the beginning of the game. I'll get him to level 15 before entering Mt. Moon, and will catch a Clefairy there. I'm hoping to have an end part that goes like this:

    -Raticate
    -Clefable
    -Snorlax
    -Kangaskhan
    -Likitung
    -Chansey

My HM slaves will most likely be Farfetch, Tentacool, and pikachu.
    Wish me luck!
