We rushed home as quickly as we could, jumping over ledges to avoid battles, which would slow us down. When we got home, Mom let us rest and we told her about Prof. Rowan. She gave us a Journal and sent us off on our journey. But as we were about to leave the house, Samm's Mom came in looking for him, he hadn't told her where he was going! She was worried, and gave me a parcel for him. She told us that Samm would probably be in Jubilife City, so we decided to head there next. On the way back to Sandgem Town, we got attacked by a couple of Bidoof and a Starly, but Eon quickly took care of them with Return. In Sandgem we healed up at the Pokémon Center to replenish PP, and then headed south to Route 219. We couldn't really progress here, as neither of us could swim, so we grabbed an antidote that was on the ground and headed north. When we arrived in Route 202, we were stopped by Dawn, the Professor's assistant. She took us into the long grass and showed us how to catch a Pokémon. She gave us five Pokéballs, which will probably come in handy later. She then headed off to Jubilife City, and we decided to follow her, after all, thats where we were headed anyway. We got stopped by a couple trainers who challenged us to battles, but Eon took care of them easily with Return, and grew to level 6. After a quick battle with a wild Bidoof, we got challenged by another trainer, and I was glad I had just healed Eon with a Potion I got given by a Pokémart clerk on route 201. He had a Burmy, which we hadn't seen before. A couple of Returns later, Eon defeated it, and grew to level 7. A youngster informed us that some Pokémon only appear in the day, and some at night. We got attacked by another Bidoof, which was quickly taken care of, and found a potion on the ground. We finally arrived in Jubilife City and were greeted by Dawn, I guess she had seen us following her and waited. She asked us if we'd been catching Pokémon, and seemed disappointed when we hadn't. For now Eon and I are fine by ourselves though. She told us to go to the Pokémon Trainer's School to learn a bit about Pokémon, and we decided that it would be a good idea, so followed her. Dawn stopped when she saw an unusual man, and we walked up to him. He announced that he was a member of the International Police, though I'd never heard of them before. He told us his codename was Looker, and he asked us if the phrase "don't be a thief!" seemed familiar. We hadn't heard it before, so answered no. He didn't seem to understand this, and assumed our Mom had told us it, but we had forgotten it. He told us it was wrong to steal things, which we knew anyway. However he informed us that there were people who didn't heed those words, and that there were criminals in Sinnoh stealing the Pokémon of others. Naturally we were horrified, how could anyone be so horrible! After letting us know he was investigating these criminals, he gave Dawn and I devices called "Vs. Recorder". Apparently it is for recording Pokémon battles. He told us that if we saw him again, we shouldn't talk to him, then changed his mind and said we MUST talk to him. Of course we were quite confused, but he promptly explained that we should inform him of any bad guys, and that he was of course not lonely, and that isn't why he wanted us to talk to him. He then ran off and Dawn showed us where the Trainer School was. Apparently she had seen Samm go in, and he was probably still in there studying. That was even more reason to go, we could deliver his parcel. We told her we'd check it out. She said goodbye and headed back to Sandgem Town. Samm was of course still in the Trainer School, writing down everything on the blackboard. We saw an X Attack on the floor, so picked it up. We spoke to Samm and gave him his parcel. Inside were two Town Maps, he kept one and gave the other to me. He told us he was gonna head off to Oreburgh City next. We weren't sure where that was, so decided to check it on our new Town Map. It was quite close, and had a Pokémon Gym, so it would be perfect for some training! Samm ran off (as usual) and we decided to fight a couple of trainers in the School. The first had a Starly, and managed to get in a Quick Attack before Eon KOd it with Return. The second had a Bidoof, which was taken down with Return before it even damaged Eon. Eon grew to level 8 and wanted to learn Sand Attack, but I was happy with her current moves for now, so we decided against learning it. After beating both the trainers, they gave us a Potion, claiming we'd be better at using it than them. We were heading towards Oreburgh City when we were stopped by a man who insulted us for not having something called a Pokétch. He then explained that it was short for Pokémon Watch, and that it was something he had invented. He said that he was currently running a promotional campaign, and that if we could find three clowns and answer their questions, he would give us a free Pokétch. It seemed like a good deal, so we searched for the clowns and found them easily. Their questions were relatively simple, and when we told them the right answer, they told us some trivia and gave us a Pokétch Coupon. We needed all 3 to get the Pokétch, so answered all 3 questions. When we had the necessary coupons, we went back to the man, who gave us a Pokétch as promised. Then we headed off to Route 203, which was on the way to Oreburgh City. Samm stopped us, and I wished we'd gone to a Pokémon Center first, but Eon was raring to go, so we accepted Samm's request for a quick battle. His first Pokémon was a Starly, level 7, just one level below Eon. We knew we could take it on though, so Eon went straight in with a Return, but Starly was quicker, and hit Eon with a quick attack. Eon wasn't bothered, and carried on with her attack, getting a critical hit! Starly was pretty low on HP now, so Eon used a Tackle. Starly was KOd, and Samm sent out his Turtwig. This was level 9, a level above Eon. If she was scared by this, she didn't show it. She went right in with a return, and was surprised by Turtwig's high defence, which only got higher when it used Withdraw. Eon used another Return, and got Turtwig down to half HP. She got hit with a Tackle, but didn't take much damage. She flew back with another Return, her adrenaline pumping, and scored a critical hit! This KOd Turtwig, and Eon grew to level 9. Samm was really upset that he lost, and vowed never to lose to us again. He said he was going to be the worlds toughest trainer, and Eon burst out laughing. Surprised by this, Samm said he was going to Oreburgh Gym, and would beat it to prove how strong he was. He ran off without even healing his Pokémon! Eon and I headed back to the Pokémon Center to heal up. Our battle with Samm made me realize that Eon needed to train if we wanted to beat that Gym. However Eon didn't seem worried at all, in fact she was raring to challenge the Gym right there and then! I managed to convince her to train, and we headed back to Route 203. There were a few trainers there, so we decided to challenge them to battles. The first was a Youngster who was hiding out the way. He had two Pokémon, a Kricketot and a Zubat. We had never seen either of them before, so knew this would be an interesting battle! Both were taken down with a single Return, so it wasn't as interesting as we hoped, but Eon didn't care, she was loving how easily she took them down. We picked up a Pokéball off the ground and headed to the next trainer. It was another Youngster, this one had a Shinx, another new Pokémon. Eon flew in with a Return and was hit with Leer. A quick Tackle and this battle was over. Eon grew to level 10, and was pleased with how quickly she was levelling up. The next trainer was also a Youngster, this one was training for the Oreburgh Gym, just like us. He had a Machop, another Pokémon we hadn't seen before. It looked pretty strong, but was two levels below Eon, so she was even more confident than usual. A Return took it down to half HP, and it used Low Kick. I then realized our mistake, this was a Fighting Type, and Eon was weak to Fighting Type moves! Luckily she didn't take too much damage, and was still raring to fight. Another Return and it was over. I decided it would be best to head back to the Pokémon Center, just in case. Eon of course didn't want to go, she thought she was fine as she was. I convinced her to go, and we were attacked by a Starly on the way. It was only level 4, so it was a quick battle. We got back to the Pokémon Center and Eon was fully healed. I could tell she was glad, but she was trying not to show it. Back on Route 203 we were attacked by a wild Shinx, remembering how easy they were to defeat, Eon used a Return and was shocked when it survived with 1 HP. I decided this might be a good time to catch a Pokémon for HMs, so checked it on my Bulbapedia...I mean Pokédex. It could only learn Strength (oddly, as it is known as the Flash Pokémon, yet cannot learn Flash), so we decided to pass on it for now. Eon took it down with a Tackle. We spotted a Lass searching for Pokémon and challenged her to a battle. She had 4 Pokémon. Her first, a Bidoof, was taken down with a single return. Her second was a Budew, a kind we hadn't seen before, it too was taken down with a single Return. Eon grew to level 11 in time for her third Pokémon, a Starly. This was also taken down with a single return, and we moved on to her final Pokémon, an Abra. This of course also only took a single Return. The last trainer on the route was another Lass. This one said she had gotten the badge from Oreburgh Gym, so we were keen to challenge her. She had one Pokémon, a Psyduck. This was another Pokémon we hadn't seen before. Eon started with a Return and took it down to really low HP, so went for a Tackle to finish it off. Another battle down, and route 203 clear of trainers. There was only one way to go from here, into a cave. Eon was still in good health, so we decided to head in straight away. As soon as we got in the cave, a man stopped us and gave us HM06 Rock Smash. There were also a couple trainers in there. The first had two Pokémon. His first, a Starly, was taken down in a single Return. His second, a Shinx, quickly followed suit. Eon grew to level 12. The second had only one Pokémon, a Bidoof. It managed to survive Eon's Return, so she attacked it with a Tackle and brought it down. When we had defeated both trainers we were right by the exit, so quickly headed out...Right outside was Oreburgh City! We were stopped by a Youngster who took us straight to the Gym...where Samm was waiting outside. I went over to him and he said that the Gym Leader was tough, and trailed off after contemplating how the Gym Leader compared to his Dad. He told me the Leader had gone off to the coal mine, so if we wanted to challenge him, we'd have to go find him. But I was getting tired, so we decided to head to the Pokémon Center and rest for a couple hours. Later on we'll be finding the Leader and challenging him to a battle!
