Amador County is a bit north-east from Pleasanton.

It's a backwater county no one in California's heard of; full of Republicans, farms, rain, Republicans, lack of record stores, lack of strip clubs/porn stores, Republicans, crappy schools, clean air, an Indian Casino, empty space, trees, hills, Republicans, lack of record stores, lack of strip clubs/porn stores, single theater with no IMAX, a decent bowling alley, thrift stores, Gold Rush history, Republicans, Republicans, a county fair with impressive livestock-terrible rides-and possibly ex-convict game vendors, Republicans, lack of strip clubs/porn stores, Republicans, and...am I leaving out anything else...oh, yes...Republicans.
However, there's never any terrible traffic, Silver Lake is amazing, so is Kirkwood, and the countryside can look beautiful even in rainy weather.
