It's basically a roleplay that emulates a pokémon journey, to varying degrees. You start off with a low leveled pokémon and go around the region to train and catch pokémon, as well as complete a goal, which is often the "collect the gym badges and defeat an evil organization" formula of the main series Pokémon games.

Ohh ok, that makes sense. I think it would be interesting to try and do

Myez, I will revive/re-open Crossroads come September! Might let one or two more players in but hopefully the old players want to continue as well :3

I think for a journey RP to hold on and not fizzle out, it's gotta have something special. A special setting or plot or premise for the players to make things unique and interesting. As seen from CR, interaction is also a good thing that is sometimes lacking from journey RPs... It's more fun to write RP posts if you do it together with someone.

Exactly! From what I've seen of them, they might have a semi-interesting plot, but even then its like all the characters are doing their own thing with seldom and inconsequential interaction. Or the plot moves too slowly in the beginning and people begin to lose interest.

So what should be done for a journey RP is putting the people in groups? Or just have the different characters meet up periodically for interesting scenes? Either way wouldn't it be necessary to make sure that people met up or stayed in their group, so would you assign groups or let them do their SU as a team in the case of the former. In the case of the second would you let them choose who to meat up with first, then have them go check with you afterwords, or would you just tell who meets who when?
Sorry if I'm over thinking this.

I think in a situation like this it would typically be best for it to naturally unfold at the discretion of the roleplaying.

JackBlaze's "The Pokemon Trainer Academy" and Rose Quartz's "Sword Art Online: Sanctuary" would both be considered Journey Rp's, wouldn't they? Wasn't even on this site when those two were first made, but I'm assuming it's alive, with the occasional hiatus, because of retcons and being easily replaceable like sandbox plotting? In any case, those kind of Rps being in a single thread would require dedication and commitment. I think Cloud 2.0 is also a part of this group of journeying, if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe there are "journeys" in those RPs you mention in some way, but in the Roleplay Corner the term "journey RP" usually refers to a RP that emulates the pokemon journey through a region that the protagonists of the pokemon games undertake. Or Ash in the anime. So Cloud, SAO Sanctuary and PTA are not journey RPs in our sense :3

  • Alright, so.. short story here. Firstly, I've been watching this new anime called Tokyo ESP, where there's basically a sudden surge in people getting superpowers of one kind or another (Called Espers), and two groups rise up, one trying to use their obvious powers to rule over those without, and another tries to stop them. Sounds alot like X-Men, but I can assure you, it's absolutely amazing. And as usual, when you watch something you're REALLY into, you see the potential of an RP. So yeah, basically, I'd love to see a Tokyo ESP here on PC, which could easily be done with the right people.

That made me think however, and I thought back to when Magic and I made our Legend of Korra-setting RP with benders and whatnot, and I actually really miss it. I'm definitely not cut-out to lead any kind of RP, but I realize that the two RPs I'd love to see here on PC are Tokyo ESP and an Avatar/Bending/Legend of Korra RP.

I realize this is just my very own opinion and people might be like "Whut, Tokyo ESP? Sounds lame" or someone might just completely hate LoK and Avatar, but there you go! Are there any RPs you guys would love to see appear and participate in here on PC? :)

I wouldn't mind RPing in one of these. Tokyo ESP is an anime I've personally never seen but from what you've described, it sounds interesting enough for me to go look it up. Lol. I would join but I'm trying to train myself to manage my time better.

Anyway, I came over to Advertise my RP BEYOND THE GODS

If you like the thought of being a Cherub (A being born from a powerful God) or a Disciple (A human chosen by fate to be a Cherub's ally) to battle three Humans that rose up to power and dominated the world; than this is the RP for you.

I'm not reserving, so your Apps are based on your skills and writing ability. The stoppage is on Tuesday so get in there and write! write! write!

  • Guys, anyone would be interested in a zombie/survival RP? Kinda like The Walking Dead but less graphic.

A RP I though would be interesting would be somethin out of a manwa (Korean manga/comic) where everyone is born under an animal god, and all are given one wish that they're god can grant. Of course, lower gods can't grant as much as higher, so there is a limit to what they can wish. Also, children who show good connection with they're god, or who were born under a powerful god were aloud to go to school, while the others had to work at a young age and not go to school.

Maybe, but wouldn't that be kinda hard to do?

  • I had something like that based on The Last of Us written up, not fully completed or anything mind you. I think go for it Nathan, it's a really popular genre and it could be a lot of fun.

If I were you, I'd just do it as a sandbox survival situation where people are stuck in a city during the zombie apocalypse. I wouldn't mind helping you put it together, so if you ever want a hand just drop me a PM/VM.

The Last Of Us RP maybe! Where the GM could play someone like Ellie (or actually Ellie) who was infected but immune and the other players were a group that needed to escort her across the US. We could even go to the same places as in the game, but perhaps with slightly different story and events. And more characters, of course.
