  • So, nuclear energy had become a new source of energy and people were researching and using it since the 50s.

Even though nuclear energy has lot of advantages and functions, there are people that thinks nuclear is a great risk to have terrible disasters, such as Chernobyl Nuclear disaster.

What do you think about this? Is the nuclear energy a great source of energy or a threat for the people?

  • Don't forget Fukushima.

Nuclear is, on the whole, better than fossil fuels. Oil and gas are finite and while they don't have the spectacular disasters that can wipe out whole areas, their slow and creeping health and environmental effects are no better in the long run and arguably worse.

But I think other alternatives are better than nuclear. Solar, geothermal, wind, and others. Combine them with better energy storage capabilities and better energy efficiency in our devices, homes, and vehicles, and you could have disaster- and poison-free energy for the planet.

Nuclear makes sense in some cases, but we shouldn't be reliant on it.

  • It depends on what you mean with nuclear energy. Do you only mean nuclear fission like we do nowadays by splitting enriched uranium atoms? Or does it also include nuclear fusion.

I think nuclear fusion is the future. Every single star in the universe works on that, it also has an enormous energy output and it's clean. Nuclear fission is in my opinion a good temporary solution while we work on harvesting other energy sources. It sure is cleaner than using fossil fuels.

Of course I don't think we have to solely concentrate on creating working tokamaks for nuclear fusion. We have to focus on natural energy like solar, wind energy, geothermal energy and even energy from the tides. Those are way better than nuclear fission since you don't have any waste with it and it's completely renewable.

One thing is certainly for sure, it's the next best thing to natural solar, wind, water, etc. that is most likely going to be the fall back once petrol becomes too scarce and expensive, but it's best to not really rely on it, especially for smaller grade machinery like residential automobiles and household appliances.

  • This question depends on whether you are talking about fission reactors or fusion reactors. Both are nuclear power generators, the former having been around since the 50s and the other still in development but making promising progress. Fission certainly provided a good amount of energy but had a lot of dangerous waste, and spectacularly devastating effects should something go wrong. The later could solve the worlds energy issues should it become feasible but the dangers of that going wrong would be much more severe. Fusion certainly is the way to go, but fission reactors have seen their day and natural energy sources are far superior at the moment.

Just wait for fusion reactors to become a thing. Then nuclear will be all the rage again :D
