  • Don't know. On one hand, Mew can learn almost every move in the games, so it has more tricks than you can shake a stick at. Mewtwo, on the other hand, was specially made to be the world's most powerful Pokemon, even more so than Mew(allegedly). It's really a case of Generalist vs. Specialist.

They were so evenly matched, it's hard to tell. I'd say Mewtwo though. It has more will and desire to win, and the genetic engineering.

  • It's really difficult to decide.

It sort of felt as if Mew was holding back. Mewtwo was very passionate and serious about the fight, while it seemed like Mew thought of it as a game. Mew's playful nature could've been its downfall.

i think mewtwo would win. probably because mewtwo takes everything seriously and mew is just a jumpy jumpy pokemon that plays around haha
plus mewtwo is more advanced from mew and looks cooler. but i have to rly say its mewtwo due to its determination of destorying unlike mew

Gurl, you know Mew~ would obviously win this one.

On a serious note. The anime didn't really specifically expand of Mew's actual power. I don't actually think Mewtwo was as powerful as was said, the phrase for most powerful - it was something said from himself, Giovanni, and those scientists, but honestly it Mewtwo was probably the most powerful they'd seen and made, idk I'm hard at explaining these things. Mew has the power the transform into Mewtwo anyway. :x

  • Well... canonically speaking. Mewtwo is rated at level ... 80 was it? 70 or 80. I forget. Mew..? 30.

Yeah. No contest. Ignoring the fact that the anime and movies both spit on canonity at times.

Mewtwo is level 70 in the games. And Faraway Island Mew is 30. That being said levels in anime don't matter nor are they drawn back to the game. And if we were going by the game Mewtwo would also have another huge advantage in BST with 680 to Mew 600.

I don't know if we will ever see a decisive battle between the two, but I think Mewtwo may have the edge due to its desire to beat Mew and prove its worth. Mew has access to every move, how far would that get Mew is yet to be seen.

I couldn't vote as I found them too evenly matched. I don't thenk there would of been a winner between the pair of them and they would of just kept fighting untill they were too exasted to do so anymore. In the Japan version Mew was just as ruthless as mewtwo so i don't think mew would have too much of a problem tearing apart the island to get at his clone and we all know mewtwo would have no problem tearing apart the world.

We /are/ going by the games. They kind of matter because the anime/movies is directly based on the games. That being said, on top of that the games are the original concept. The word of god from the creators themselves. They define canon, whilst it's the writers of the anime/movies job to try and respect it.

To be fair Pokemon the first movie would be the first but far from the last time the movies/anime would depict Mew as some godlike entity despite the games saying otherwise.

Which means they honestly don't care or have yet to do the research and may very well have made Mew triumph. Hard to say at that point, as what they showed in the movie depicted a tie.

Had Ash not intervened, it likely would've been Mewtwo that won, but only after fighting to the death. Team Rocket's scientists engineered Mewtwo specifically to be more powerful than anything else-even stronger than Mew.

Well they don't really respect it... Which is why I said it wasn't that important. Ash Pikachu loses to a newly obtained Snivy, but this the logic of levels Ash Pikachu should probably win 99% of the time. The concept of level is vague but it really isn't something that is of much importance in the anime despite whatever roots it may come from. And directly based on the games is a bit of a stretch, if that was the case then it would follow more to the game story.

    Games say otherwise?

Black and White Dex Entry - "Because it can use all kinds of moves, many scientists believe Mew to be the ancestor of Pokemon. Seems kind of godlike to me.

Even if they supposedly portray Mew as some mythic character which it is, Mewtwo is portrayed as a Frankenstein monster like creature that has little limitation and little resistance. Like Otter Mii-kun stated Mewtwo is designed to be the best there is, and if the battle would have came to a conclusion I could definitely see Mewtwo coming out the victor.

You would have to disregard the fact that weaker Pokemon beat stronger Pokemon all the time in the anime when it would be pretty much impossible in the games, that moves that shouldn't have any effect on a certain Pokemon do (electric hitting ground, Spikes hurting flying Pokemon), that a Pikachu can learn Volt Tackle naturally (in the games it's an egg move), that never-miss moves do miss, and many other discrepancies to claim that the games should be taken into account for more than the most basic, sweeping themes of the anime. When this is such a specific instance where "anime physics" can easily take over, I believe it's out of place to try to apply game mechanics to it as if they're actually seriously taken into account in the anime.

That being said, in this instance I think Mewtwo would be the winner if they fought to the finish. Mewtwo has too much hate in his heart before he's stopped to hold back at all, which I think would hinder Mew.

  • @Kenshin5: That's a vague guess by a bunch of scientists based on a flexible movepool which does not indicate actual power in a fight. They could have said the exact same thing about Ditto, or even Smeargle. Mew's niche in the game was always being absurdly rare.

To the movies credits though, Mew's playful non-violent nature is very appropriate for a pokemon that theoretically is level 30 because it perhaps simply never cared for power like Mewtwo.

I voted for for the reason of thinking like this.......

How did the scientist actually know that Mewtwo was the most powerful?

They created him in a lab. Which could lead to human error I'm the cloning process. Yea I know in the film they showed him taking out everything in it's path. Yet how did they k ow immediately upon creation. He could have been "born" no stronger than a level 4 pidgey. And how do we know that mid way through the battle that due to mewtwo being a clone that his powers wouldn't have failed him and or lost them? So I had to go with mew just do to the fact of the possible faults of mewtwo being a clone.

I believe Mewtwo would have won had Ash not interfered. Mew was too carefree while on the other hand Mewtwo was more focused and to top of it he was vicious and motivated by hate. I believe Mew would have in the end succumbed to the overwhelming force of Mewtwo's determination, passion, and strong will.

  • I think the movie tried to give the impression that neither could win with the battle between the other Pokemon and their clones, so I don't think either would have won.
