  • (OU) Dusknoir of Terror (peaked at 1958 ACRE)

UPDATE: Improved the ACRE to 1958.

So I made a team that uses an INCREDIBLY underrated Pokemon, Dusknoir. Yes, I know this sounds noobish, but Dusknoir might suck in RU, but IT DEFINITELY DOESN'T in OU. I'll continue to have battles with this team and hopefully improve my ACRE.

    The team at a glance

    A closer look

    Dusknoir (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Pressure
    EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
    Adamant Nature
    - Substitute
    - Focus Punch
    - Shadow Sneak
    - Will-O-Wisp

You know what makes this thing so effective? The fact that nobody expects him in OU. And when they see him, they'll immediately assume it's a defensive set, and switch to their appropiate counter. Until I decide to use Substitute and screw up their plans completely. Focus Punch and Shadow Sneak together have perfect coverage. Focus Punch annihilates offensive Heatran, Terrakion, Blissey, Tyranitar, yeah, it deals solid damage to anything that doesn't resist it. Shadow Sneak always 2HKOes Starmie and OHKOes Gengar with a bit of prior damage, and it picks off severely weakened targets. Will-o-Wisp is extremely important for Dusknoir, allowing him to cripple any physical attacker that thinks it can beat this underrated ghost. I've done many Dusknoir sweeps just because nobody expected him, and I don't know why he doesn't have an OU analysis yet. I know people call him "Sucknoir" because he's "outclassed", but he's only outclassed if you think he should be played in a defensive manner. The fact that Dusknoir can also spinblock is a huge plus, keeping Stealth Rock on the field.

    Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Iron Barbs
    EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SDef
    IVs: 0 Spe
    Sassy Nature
    - Stealth Rock
    - Gyro Ball
    - Leech Seed
    - Protect

I really don't want to use this thing but looks like I'm forced to. Ferrothorn provides Stealth Rock support for Latios, Raikou and Alakazam to sweep. Gyro Ball deals solid damage to almost anything that doesn't resist it thanks to Ferrothorn's extremely low speed stat and ensures Ferrothorn is not Taunt bait. Leech Seed is also important, because when combined with Protect and Leftovers it can help Ferrothorn recover its health quickly, as well as letting Dusknoir replenish its HP.

    Latios (M) @ Life Orb
    Trait: Levitate
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature
    - Draco Meteor
    - Hidden Power [Fire]
    - Psyshock
    - Surf

Yet another team with Latios. Yes, I love this guy so much. Draco Meteor is very powerful and deals some serious damage to anything that doesn't resist it (and even some than do) and is not named Blissey/Chansey. Even then, steel-types have to contend with the threat of Hidden Power Fire, which OHKOes Ferrothorn and Magnezone and 2HKOes Jirachi and Skarmory(assuming it's not raining). The only one that resists both Draco Meteor and HP Fire, Heatran, is taken care of by Surf. Psyshock deals good damage to Blissey and Chansey, and hits special walls on their weaker defense stat.

    Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
    Trait: Intimidate
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Naive Nature
    - Earthquake
    - U-turn
    - Stone Edge
    - Hidden Power [Ice]

The revenge killer and scouter. Landorus-T has a great base 145 Attack and a decent base 105 Special Attack, as well as the Intimidate ability which allows it to switch on stuff like Terrakion and Tyranitar. Earthquake is very powerful and acts like Landorus-T's main STAB. U-turn is Landorus-T's scouting move and it deals serious damage to Reuniclus, Starmie and Celebi. Stone Edge is necessary, and when paired with Earthquake it forms a very powerful offensive combination. Hidden Power Ice is just for dragons, Gliscor and opposing Landorus-T.

    Raikou @ Life Orb
    Trait: Pressure
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Rash Nature
    - Volt Switch
    - Thunderbolt
    - Hidden Power [Ice]
    - Aura Sphere

Raikou is a good all-out attacker. Even though it is forced to use a Rash nature because of Aura Sphere, it is still pretty fast, outspeeding Garchomp. Volt Switch, when paired with Landorus-T's U-turn, forms the VoltTurn combination which keeps momentum. Thunderbolt is Raikou's main STAB and it is pretty powerful. HP Ice is a good coverage move for it, smashing some dragons to pieces and OHKOing Landorus-T. Aura Sphere takes care of Ferrothorn and Tyranitar, which otherwise would wall it.

    Alakazam (M) @ Focus Sash
    Trait: Magic Guard
    EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
    Timid Nature
    - Psyshock
    - Focus Miss
    - Signal Beam
    - Hidden Power [Fire]

Probably the best revenge killer in the entire OU tier. Thanks to Magic Guard, Alakazam doesn't care about Stealth Rock and any forms of passive damage, meaning it can use its Focus Sash and its impressive coverage to revenge kill something. Psyshock is a good STAB. Focus Miss is a move that likes to miss a lot and OHKO Tyranitar and stuff that bugs Alakazam. Signal Beam OHKOes Celebi and 2HKOes Lati@s, while Hidden Power Fire takes care of Scizor, Ferrothorn, Forretress, Skarmory, etc.

And here's proof that even Dusknoir can shine in OU (this is one of my alts):

Whelp, good for you, using dusknoir in OU, but personally I've found this more useful.
    Conkeldurr@LO
    Drain Punch
    Ice Punch
    Thunderpunch
    Mach Punch
    120hp, 136spD, 252atk
    Adamant
Of course, it does require some support, so Dusknoir's probably the better the better fit here.
Anyways, good job on that ranking!
