The Riders:
Spoiler:
Dragon Blood Iron:
Blood from the current dragon of iron, hardened in the open air to form metal. It can only be heated in Dragonfire and when forged it knows no equal in strength. It is the only metal capable of acting as a magical conduit.
Rider Magic:
A special sub category of magic channeled only by Riders.
Why is Rider Magic Special?:
How do Riders learn Rider Magic?
Dragon Force:
A legendary state of mind attained only by the most powerful Riders of myth. When the Riders truly reach a state of absolute bonding with their Dragons they can enter into a state known as "Dragon Force". During this the two share instincts, thoughts, emotions and reactions and act as, essentially, a single unit. Both beings can also freely use one another's spells and magic without any drawbacks.

Rider Magic:
A special sub category of magic channeled only by Riders.
Why is Rider Magic Special?:
Spoiler:
Most wizards and sorcerers in Nobillis chanel magic by drawing the natural energy of the world into their bodies and channeling the energy of something specific such as force, healing, fire, etc. However each and every living being is already filled with their own life essence... which in itself is a magical energy.
Thus normally to cast magic, one must take in energy and thus force their own life energy out. So a normal sorcerer casting too much magic would be incredibly fatigued... in extreme cases they can expend all of their life and die consumed by magic.
This is different however, for Riders.
Dragons are special because they are linked directly to the flow of magic through their element and thus they have the ability to channel INFINITE amounts of it without being overwhelmed. When a Rider grows very close with their dragon they are capable of taking in the dragons infinite energy as their own and channeling it as a catalyst. This technically still uses the dragon as the source and channeling point of magical energy, the dragon becomes the bow and string that the rider uses to loose their arrow... and thus the Rider suffers no ill effects for it at all. It is noteworthy however, that this only applies to the elemental magic that comes naturally to them as a Rider.

How do Riders learn Rider Magic?
Spoiler:
It requires the progression and strengthening of a Riders bond with their dragon.
Once the dragon and Rider are close enough something will trigger... when their hearts and desires allign perfectly their identities mesh and the Rider breaks through and gains access to the dragon's infinite pool of magical energy. Once both rider and dragon focus wholly on a single goal their senses of self will mingle and the Rider can draw upon the energy of their partner in a way that nothing else can replicate. Once this bond is forged it can never be broken and the Rider will have access to this magic permanently.

Half-Ear:

The Royal Tournament:
Societal Goals:
Humans are the major progressors of industry in the world and they focus on unique designs and clever integrations between technology and magic. They are also the main experimenters with the newest refined resource in Nobillis, gunpowder.

The Royal Tournament:
Spoiler:
A wide scale tournament held once every 500 years. Many fighters enter on behalf of their families and the tournament winner faces the current King or Queen in single combat.
If the King/Queen succeeds? They retain power as do their family. If they fail, they are stripped of title with their family... and usually killed by the opposing combatant. This combatant then becomes the new monarch and their family the new royal family. In the years between when no tournament is held, the presiding family functions as a normal monarchy, with the first born son or daughter of the current monarch inheriting the crown.

Societal Goals:
The dwarves as a people are not very magically inclined... though they do not resent it. They focus on hard, honest weaponry which is occasionally enchanted and great siege engines of war. They are the finest smiths in all of Nobillis... and their cities are the sturdiest of all mortal races, being nigh impossible to breach without a massive army.

Spoiler:
Dwarven for "Mighty Hunt". The method for choosing the next Dwarven King, every 200 years, or upon the death of the previous dwarf king... each house, noble or not, sends a warrior off to the mighty hunt. At the same time a panel of judges is selected from the wisest and strongest dwarves not vying for the crown, again one from every willing family, these judges vote for which Dwarves they think should become royal candidates. They are disallowed to vote for their own family, of course. The five dwarves whom bring back the most impressive trophy's are considered the royal candidates.
These five dwarves then go through a set of tests known only to the order of dwarven scholars, The "Duraz Faras" or, Stone Readers. The one whom completes these secret trials with the greatest success is made king, the Durazkran, women are not allowed to take part in this contest. The king rules over the Dwarves with absolute power and is more often than not beloved by their people.
