  • I've been playing NU for quite a while now, and I've done pretty well. Unfortunately, my team has seen better days and has seemed to lost its edge. Any advice is appreciated, and I'm up for anything, except replacing Cradily, he's a mainstay.

    Cradily (M) @ Chesto Berry
    Trait: Suction Cups
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
    Careful Nature
    - Rock Slide
    - Seed Bomb
    - Curse
    - Rest

This set was something I created after I saw Smogon's "one-attack" set, hated it, and came up with my own sweeper set. This set has scored many rage-quits and is the pride of my team. I throw Cradily out first to set up curses while the opponent is setting up entry hazards, rest off any damage I have taken, and continue to sweep. The only thing that has stopped Cradily when it was up and running (or walking with THAT speed) are focus blasts. I would really like it if I would respect my wishes and have all advice pertaining to Cradily be about its sweeping capabilities.

    Weezing (F) @ Black Sludge
    Trait: Levitate
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Def
    Modest Nature
    - Clear Smog
    - Fire Blast
    - Thunderbolt
    - Toxic

Since fighting is a huge threat in this tier, I needed a fighting counter and Weezing was willing to fill in that role. With that amazing defense stat and outstanding coverage, Weezing has saved me many times from a would-be sweep from the hands of fighting types. I find Weezing, however, to be a bit lackluster sometimes and I think my team would benefit from a defensive wall with more offensive presence.

    Swellow (M) @ Flame Orb
    Trait: Guts
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Jolly Nature
    - Brave Bird
    - Facade
    - Protect
    - U-turn

Nothing in NU hits quite like Swellow does and with it's blazing fast speed, Swellow isn't afraid to shift the battle's momentum in my favor. Jynx was a pretty big threat, but ever since I added Swellow, Jynx is no longer a threat since it's OHKO'd by Facade, with the guts boost of course.

    Sawk (M) @ Choice Scarf
    Trait: Mold Breaker
    EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
    Adamant Nature
    - Close Combat
    - Earthquake
    - Ice Punch
    - Stone Edge

Sawk was a recent addition and has served me well. It hasn't been an outstanding team member like I thought it would be, but that could be a matter of over-expectations. Sawk is really good at getting rid of opposing Swellow and steel types that would otherwise wall my team.

    Raichu (M) @ Air Balloon
    Trait: Lightningrod
    EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
    Modest Nature
    - Substitute
    - Nasty Plot
    - Thunderbolt
    - Hidden Power [Ice]

I've been switching out electric types for a while and finally decided to land on Raichu. With the electric immunity, it has been a great help with overcoming my team's electric weakness. With some rearranging of my team, electricity isn't the threat it used to be, but it's still nice to have the immunity.

    Kangaskhan (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Scrappy
    EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
    Adamant Nature
    - Fake Out
    - Return
    - Sucker Punch
    - Earthquake

No team, in my opinion, is quite ready for battle without a little priority. Kangaskhan has proven invaluable with priority to not only break focus sashes, but to also counter opposing psychic types. Since she is bulky enough, Kangaskhan can switch into opposing attacks and quickly shut down whatever is going on.

  • Consider Musharna over Weezing; it checks Fighting Pokemon just as well as Weezing does, and can actually hit them supereffectively:
    -Psychic
    -Thunder Wave
    -Moonlight
    -Baton Pass/Heal Bell
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 240 HP/252 Def/16 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Synchronize

    or
    -Calm Mind
    -Psychic
    -Baton Pass/Heal Bell/Signal Beam
    -Moonlight
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 240 HP/252 Def/16 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Synchronize

    or
    -Trick Room
    -Psychic
    -Signal Beam
    -Moonlight/Hidden Power (Ground)
    Nature: Quiet
    EVs: 248 HP/8 Def/252 SAtk
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Synchronize

    or
    -Psychic
    -Signal Beam
    -Baton Pass/Hidden Power (Ground)
    -Trick/Sleep Talk
    Nature: Modest
    EVs: 248 HP/8 Def/252 SAtk
    Item: Choice Specs
    Ability: Synchronize

If you want to keep Weezing, what's the point of a Modest nature if you're not investing in Special Attack at all?:
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Will-o-Wisp
    -Flamethrower/Pain Split
    -Haze/Taunt
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
    Item: Black Sludge

Kangakshan's Speed is decent, even though it falls short of the ideal 95 Speed; regardless, it should invest in its Speed rather than HP; use 40 HP/252 Atk/216 Spe to outspeed Adamant Choice Band Sawk. Give it Silk Scarf (to boost the power of its Normal moves, which Kangaskhan should spam all the time) or Life Orb (to boost the power of its other moves as well).

What good is Sub on Raichu? Encore is the preferred move in the last slot to lock an opponent into a setup move or even the last Electric move they used; Grass Knot is also worth considering to hit Regirock harder than Thunderbolt would. Life Orb is also the preferred item, since 90 Special Attack isn't exactly the best.

You're going to need some entry hazards with this team, as even though their attacks are strong, they can fall short of a KO at times. Here are some suggestions for hazard layers, but it's up to you where to place them on the team:

    Carracosta:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Waterfall
    -Stone Edge
    -Aqua Jet
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 248 HP/252 Atk/8 Def
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Solid Rock

    Cacturne:
    -Spikes
    -Seed Bomb
    -Sucker Punch
    -Swords Dance/Substitute
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Focus Sash/Life Orb
    Ability: Water Absorb

    Gabite:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Dragon Claw
    -Earthquake
    -Roar/Toxic
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
    Item: Eviolite

    Garbodor:
    -Spikes
    -Toxic
    -Pain Split/Toxic Spikes
    -Gunk Shot/Rock Blast
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 252 HP/240 Def/16 Spe
    Item: Black Sludge
    Ability: Aftermath

    Gigalith:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Rock Blast
    -Earthquake
    -Explosion
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 212 HP/252 Atk/44 Spe or 196 HP/252 Atk/60 Spe
    Item: Leftovers/Normal Gem/Custap Berry
    Ability: Sturdy

    Metang:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Meteor Mash
    -Bullet Punch
    -Toxic
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 252 HP/176 Atk/80 SDef
    Item: Eviolite
    Abiilty: Clear Body

    Piloswine:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Earthquake
    -Icicle Spear
    -Ice Shard
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 240 HP/252 Atk/16 Spe
    Item: Eviolite
    Ability: Thick Fat

    Scolipede:
    -Spikes
    -Megahorn
    -Aqua Tail
    -Swords Dance/Rock Slide
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Focus Sash/Life Orb
    Ability: Swarm

    or
    -Spikes
    -Toxic Spikes
    -Megahorn
    -Toxic/Aqua Tail
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 248 HP/36 Atk/56 Def/168 Spe
    Item: Black Sludge
    Ability: Swarm

    Regirock:
    -Stealth Rock
    -Stone Edge/Rock Slide
    -Drain Punch
    -Toxic/Thunder Wave
    Nature: Impish
EVs: 240 HP/252 Atk/16 Spe (note that Regirock can get away with not using Defense EVs because its base Defense is naturally very high)
    Item: Leftovers

    Torkoal:
    -Lava Plume
    -Stealth Rock
    -Rapid Spin
    -Yawn
    Nature: Bold
    EVs: 248 HP/252 Def/8 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Shell Armor

  • I'll take your advice with switching Weezing out for that second Musharna set. I'll also change Raichu, and Kangaskhan, for the silk scarf.

I think I'll switch Sawk out for Metang. Would that be a good switch?

Not exactly, as the team will be walled by Steel Pokemon otherwise.
