  • I'm formatting my team to work around some troubles I've had in the testing I've done. So far the biggest threat I've seen is Heatran, and I'm currently working on that right now.

    Tyranitar:
    252 HP / 32 Atk / 224 SpD
    Adamant
    Chesto Berry
    Sand Stream
    Payback
    Stealth Rock
    Earth Quake
    Stone Edge

    Breloom
    48 HP / 252 Atk / 208 Spe
    Adamant
    Toxic Orb
    Poison Heal
    Focus Punch
    Seed Bomb
    Spore
    Substitute

    Gliscor
    252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 Spe
    Jolly
    Leftovers
    Hyper Cutter
    Swords Dance
    Earthquake
    Roost
    Stone Edge

    Latias
    128 HP / 128 SpA / 252 Spe
    Timid
    Leftovers
    Levitate
    Calm Mind
    Dragon Pulse
    Recover
    Refresh

    Starmie
    136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spe
    Timid
    Leftovers
    Natural Cure
    Rapid Spin
    Recover
    Surf
    Thunderbolt

    Skarmory
    252 HP / 72 Def / 184 Spe
    Impish
    Leftovers
    Sturdy
    Roost
    Spikes
    Taunt
    Toxic

In order to counter Heatran, I'm thinking of swapping Latias for:

    Suicune
    252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
    Bold
    Leftovers
    Pressure
    Surf
    Calm Mind
    Roar
    Hidden Power Electric

    any thoughts? input?

  • You could make Latias offensive, give it a Life Orb + Surf and use 4 HP / 252 Sp Att / 252 Speed. This will take care or most Heatran very easily.

  • If you're going to run Suicune I'd suggest getting rid of TTar because Sand Stream really ruins Suicune's survivability if it lacks rest.

I'd personally run Ice Beam > HP Electric on Suicune. You lack a reliable Dragon counter otherwise.

Gliscor seems out of place. I'd change it to a defensive oriented version, or find a different pokemon. Gliscor is just way too easy to kill off because of its typing and has too low of a base speed to sweep effectively.

    Toxic on Skarm? Run Whrilwind.

Pretty good team, though it doesn't seem to be supportive very much. The only real support I see is Gliscor and TTar but you're running Hyper Cutter instead of Sand Veil so it doesn't really matter.

  • Gliscor's original use was to shut down Lucario, which my original team had a big trouble with. Which it does fantastically, by the way...

It didn't seem like a good idea at first, but Gliscor has shown a lot of promise against other pokemon too, so it'll be hard to swap it for something else

Offensive Latias sounds good, I'll swap that out and see how it turns out. As for TTar, I'll need another lead to replace it. I had a Metagross on Platinum that was rather successful in its work, would it make a good replacement?

    Metagross
    Clear Body
    Jolly
    Choice Scarf
    252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Speed
    Trick
    Meteor Mash
    Pursuit
    Stealth Rock

Pseudo-lead, its purpose was to shut down common set up leads such as Azelf and Bronzong by locking them in support moves, using Trick to toss my Scarf on them. Pursuit punished any Azelf trying to swap out after being locked, and Meteor Mash for a STAB move. Stealth Rock is in there for obvious reasons.

thoughts on replacing TTar as the lead?

  • Gliscor can shut down Lucario with a better set. Otherwise it is dominated pretty bad by almost anything that outspeeds. The only thing I can think of that that set can hit is Gyarados, but it loses to many more things (as well as is stall fodder for Skarm and the crew).

That Metagross set looks nice. I'd try it.

  • well the biggest purpose of Gliscor is to shut down that Lucario the rest of my team is weak to, so as long as it can do that and other things, it's good.

How does this set sound for it?

    Gliscor
    Jolly
    252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Speed
    Sand Veil
    Leftovers
    Earthquake
    Taunt
    Roost
    U-Turn

a little bulkier, screws any Skarmory like my own with Taunt, stall breaker, and still outspeeds your average Lucario. the set calls for Sand Veil, but if I'm taking TTar out then I have no other pokemon to throw out Sandstorm, should I swap for Hyper Cutter or get another Sandstorm? Or should I keep Sand Veil, and swap another pokemon with another TTar set that better compliments this Gliscor:

    Tyranitar
    Adamant
    160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Speed
    Sand Stream
    Choice Band
    Stone Edge
    Crunch
    Pursuit
    Aqua Tail

  • If it was me, I'd run Toxic > U-Turn but it's your prerogative.

I'd still use Sand Veil. If you're using Suicune don't use TTar (especially because there are other things that can fulfill its lead spot just as well), but sometimes other teams will be using TTar. Occasionally you'll get some epic hax and can really annoy your opponent.

  • I'm not exactly sure if I'll be running Suicune yet, it depends on how much a difference Offensive Latias makes

alright so this is what I've got:

    Metagross:
    Clear Body
    Jolly
    Choice Scarf
    252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Speed
    Trick
    Meteor Mash
    Pursuit
    Stealth Rock

    Breloom:
    48 HP / 252 Atk / 208 Spe
    Adamant
    Toxic Orb
    Poison Heal
    Focus Punch
    Seed Bomb
    Spore
    Substitute

    Starmie:
    136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spe
    Timid
    Leftovers
    Natural Cure
    Rapid Spin
    Recover
    Surf
    Thunderbolt

    Skarmory:
    252 HP / 72 Def / 184 Spe
    Impish
    Leftovers
    Sturdy
    Roost
    Spikes
    Taunt
    Whirlwind

    Gliscor:
    Jolly
    252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Speed
    Sand Veil
    Leftovers
    Earthquake
    Taunt
    Roost
    Toxic

    Latias:
    Timid
    Life Orb
    4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Speed
    Calm Mind
    Dragon Pulse
    Surf
    Recover

if Latias doesn't work, she'll be replaced with:

    Suicune
    252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
    Bold
    Leftovers
    Pressure
    Surf
    Calm Mind
    Roar
    Ice Beam

TTar is probably thrown out if I do keep Latias, because of her Life Orb
