Lights filled the Indigo League stadium, illuminating the earthy arena in the dark of the night. A strong, bulky man garbed with nothing but a ripped pair of white pants, sat with his legs crossed on one side of the arena. On the other side, a lanky teenager stood proudly. He wore a white tank top, a leather, sleeveless jacket on top of that. Dirty jeans, complete with a Pokeball belt, completed the young man's wardrobe.

The two trainers stared at each other, neither moving, as tensions within the audience continued to build. Finally, the bulky man smirked, moving himself from his zen state. He stood, fists clenched and ready.

"So," he grinned. "You've made it this far in the Indigo League. I congratulate you for your tactics. But it'll take more than tactics to land a hit on my Hitmonchan!"

Throwing the crimson and white ball forward, a pure beam of red energy struck the earth. A lanky, skirt wearing, boxer Pokemon appeared. Dancing on the balls of it's feet, the challenger only replied with his own smirk, followed by the gentle toss of his own Pokeball.

"Go, Rocky!" the trainer exclaimed, a strange, kangaroo shaped Pokemon appearing before him.

The Breloom, completely foreign to the Kanto region, was eager to take on the fellow boxer, in hopes of advancing it's trainer forward in the league. Hopping from one foot to another, the Breloom thrust it's fists out in a speedy manner into the air.

"Hmmm, I haven't seen one of those Pokemon before." Bruno chuckled. "I guess that gives you an advantage, trainer. But you're in my dojo, and we do things MY way! So let's make this interesting!"

At Bruno's word, the ground beneath them rumbled as a simple rectangle of steel jetted up from the earth beneath them, effectively caging the two Pokemon in, minus a roof. The challenger was taken aback, but he knew his Breloom could get the job done right.

"It's the challenger's first move." Bruno grunted. "Touch gloves and have a clean fight."

The Breloom and Hitmonchan, both out of boxer's instincts, advanced towards the center of the cage, tapping their gloves together. Jumping back a good foot or two, the two fighters readied themselves for the fight of a life-time.

"Rocky," the trainer yelled. "Mach Punch!!"

Jumping off of it's powerful right foot, the Breloom charged forward, it's right fist cocked and ready for a powerful blow."

"Same goes for you, Hitmonchan." Bruno shrugged.

The Hitmonchan followed suit, running forward at an impossibly fast pace, it's left fist pulled back and prepped to destroy the kangaroo, dirt kicking up from it's feet as it went. It was all a battle of speed as the two Pokemon met in the middle, lashing fist after fist consecutively in an attempt of breaking the other's defenses for a solid hit.

Breloom jumped back on it's tail, before bouncing back at the Hitmonchan, releasing a full force punch to it's face. The Hitmonchan roared in pain as it was sent flying into the steel cages, wrapping it's arms around it. Not one to give up though, it was on it's feet within a flash, circling the Breloom, the two never leaving each other's eyes.

"Fire punch!" Bruno barked.

"Counter!" Breloom's trainer roared.

The fire in the Hitmonchan's eyes flared, it's fists quickly mirroring it's inner fire. Charging forward, the southpaw creature smashed the Breloom in the chest with it's flames, scorching the carapace that the mushroom kangaroo possessed. Before the Hitmonchan could follow up, however, the Breloom caught the Hitmonchan's right fist mid swing, and countered with it's own nasty right hook at double the strength.

Once again the Hitmonchan found itself back into the steel bars, a slight trickle of liquid flowing out of it's mouth. However, it had more difficulty standing than before, and laid there for a moment, shaken from it's incredible battle. The referee was just about to blow his whistle and wave his flag, when the Hitmonchan cried out in defiance.

"That was just round one, kid." Bruno shook his head. "This Hitmonchan can make it all the way through to a third round, can Rocky, I wonder?"

Standing, Hitmonchan tapped it's gloves together, before returning to the center of the cage. The Breloom struck with a nasty right hook once more, as the Hitmonchan caught it, a twinkle formed in it's right eye, as if it had detected the blow was going to happen.

"Sky Uppercut Hitmonchan!" Bruno thrust his massive fist upwards. "Then follow up with Ice Punch!

Smashing the Kangaroo just below the chin, the Hitmonchan's fists cooled to sub-zero temperatures, frost covering the red material of it's gloves. The Breloom fell from the heavens, the Hitmonchan's Ice Punch intercepting it mid-fall, smashing it in the face, launching it into the cage.

There was a brief moment as the Breloom struggled to stand, but it wouldn't go down without a fight. It used to be a lowly Shroomish, but not anymore. It was going to show it's trainer that it had what it took to be a Champion's Pokemon. Bouncing off of it's tail, it cracked it's neck before approaching the center.

"I guess we're going to find out," it's trainer retorted. "But your Hitmonchan isn't looking too good."

Sure enough, after having smashed the Breloom in the face not once, but twice, the Hitmonchan stood there, completely motionless, it's eyes closed in slumber. Taking advantage of this, the Breloom swiftly approached.

"C'MON HITMONCHAN, NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR REST!" Bruno growled. "YOU ARE A WARRIOR! A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH!"

"Rocky," the trainer grinned cockily. "Focus Punch."

Closing it's eyes, the Breloom reached deep within itself for the most powerful punch it could muster. Breathing deeply and steadily, the kangaroo found it's center and opened it's eyes. Lashing it's right fist out fast enough to cut air, dust kicked up from the earth beneath it, as the punch made contact, sending the sleepy fighter flying back into the cage once more, this time denting the steel bars.

Snapping awake instantly, the Hitmonchan wasn't going to lose to some quick tricks. Standing shakily to it's feet, the Hitmonchan stumbled it's way to the center. Both fighters were now drained of almost all of their energy. They both breathed heavily, and now unsteadily, as they glared at each other, cuts and bruises covering both of them. It was that one last punch that was going to determine the winner, and neither trainer was willing to lose, nor were their respective Pokemon.

"Close Combat." Bruno clenched his fists powerfully.

"Drain Punch!" the Breloom's trainer barked."

With one last step towards each other, the Breloom swung it's right arm, sprouts forming along it to sap energy away, while the southpaw Hitmonchan swung it's left fist without defending itself. Both Pokemon's fists made contact with one another's face, when the lights in the stadium went out unexpectedly.
