  • Why?

Ever had that stereotypical, cyclical conversation with a small child where they ask you a simple question and then proceed to ask you "why?" every time you subsequently answer bringing you into increasing complex areas of discussion and pushing both your knowledge and patience? Well you're about to... sort of.

With the dawning of the Lab comes a new age of scientific intrigue on PC, and with it a place far more suitable to this thread than the Round Table was. The way this works is quite simple: ask a quick science or technology-based question. The next person answers that question as accurately and factually as they can and then asks a question of their own. Basically:

Person A: What is the greatest food ever?
Person B: Pie, because gimme says so. Is there any evidence that supports the existence of universes other than our own?

This continues on indefinitely. Try to keep things as relevant and scientific as possible and remember this is a quick question and answer type of thread, if you want to have in depth discussions you'll need to start a new thread. Have fun!

    Now onto the first question...

Why do some black holes spin whilst others do not?

Why is it necessary for us to sleep?

We know that during sleep our bodies rest and heal and when we're young grow, but we don't actually know why sleep is needed for any of this to happen. There's a few theories floating around if you dig deep enough though I believe.

Because it's hard to see if there's a boogey hanging out of your nose when you finish in the dark.

Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

  • Because the parkway is just simply in the park.

Why do cars get extremely hot?

If were talking about the mechanical side, it's because the chemical and electrical energy present in the car convert to kinetic and heat energy when they provide its functions.

If you mean inside the car (like on a sunny day), it's the greenhouse effect in miniature. Heat enters the car through the windows and then gets trapped gradually causing the temperature to rise.

Why do colder fluids sink, causing convection?

The molecules of colder fluids do not move faster than hotter fluids and congregate more in one area. Thus colder fluids are more dense than hotter fluids. Both fluids are subject to the same gravitational force and since colder fluids are denser, they're more likely to sink instead of rise like the molecules affected by hotter temperatures.
