    Poke-Ronpa: Year One - Despair

    Congratulations Student

On behalf of Hope's Peak Academy I am pleased to congratulate you on the invitation to attend this next school year. As you may know, Hope's Peak Academy is the most exclusive program in all of the regions and we have accepted only the most talented trainers since our founding in 1965. We were very impressed with your skills and abilities and gladly chose you from our pool of potential students to enroll in our fall program.

In order to ensure your official enrollment into our fall program, please fill out and return the enclosed forms no later than August 15, 2015. Receiving the necessary information as soon as possible will help us facilitate your enrollment. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Our telephone number is (XXX)XXX-XXXX and our email address is [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you.

We are delighted to accept you into our fall program and feel confident that you will make a wonderful addition.

    Yours sincerely,
    The Hope's Peak Faculty

Congratulations trainer on being accepted to Hope's Peak Academy!
Hope's Peak is a prestigious high school for gifted trainers who have shown promise for greatness. It is said that the classes at Hope's Peak are challenging and difficult, but that anyone who successfully graduates is practically guaranteed success as a trainer. Past graduates now hold positions as Gym Leaders, Elite Four members, and even holding high positions in various powerful companies.

You, trainer, have caught the attention of the scouters of the school, and have been recognized as one of the best. Perhaps it's your skill in battling, or maybe your intelligence. It could be your knowledge in breeding, or your talents in creating useful inventions to be used by trainers worldwide. To achieve such things is quite impressive by a trainer not even graduated from high school.

Of course, it would be fun to enjoy your time at Hope's Peak as a normal student, as normal as it gets at that school. But it is not to be. Shortly after your arrival at the school, you are thrust into a world of torture and despair beyond anything you have ever experienced. Will you prevail? Or will you lose your hope and fall into despair?

    THE GAME

Congratulations on being thrust into a fun murder spree survival game! To escape from the high school, the rules are simple.

You must kill another student and get away with it.

Shouldn't be too difficult, right? So what will you do? Will you succumb to the urge to escape, and murder a classmate? Or will you persevere through the perverse game you have been thrust into and discover the reason for your captivity?

Its up to you. Just understand the risks. Of killing. Of being killed. Of dying. Of living.

Every time a classmate is murdered, there will be a trial. You as a roleplayer will have the job of gathering clues around the school and determining who the killer is. For the first couple murders it will be STRONGLY ENCOURAGED not to kill someone. There are 11 other NPCs to do killing for a while until you get a hang of the system.

After all of the clues have been gathered, all the students will be called together and a trial will be held to determine who the murderer was. If you can successfully solve the mystery and discover the murderer, then the culprit will be "punished". If not, then the culprit will be set free from the high school, and the rest of the class will be "punished". Be careful of who you point fingers at, it could mean the end of your life.

    RULES
    • No Godmodding/Bunnying - Don't control other people's characters. Its rude and annoying.
    • Activity. Posting regularly is something I strongly encourage. 3 posts a week would be preferable, but at least 1 per week. If something comes up, please send me a message to let me know.
    • This RP is rated M for Mature. There will be blood, some gore, probably swearing, and some adult themes.
    • Romance is fine, don't go past 1st base.
    • Please no Metagaming. Keep most of your mystery discussion in the thread or OOC. Just remember that others you are roleplaying with might be playing you. Trust yourself, not necessarily everyone else.
    • If you decide to use CSS in your posts, make it light text on a dark background, or dark text on a light background. Also please be consistent. Don't be constantly changing you layout.

  • Cooper Ferris | 14 [going on 15] | ♂
    Ultimate Tinkerer | Steel-Type

    Appearance:
The first thing anyone notices about Cooper is that he seems to dye his hair and paint his nails to the point any punk might look on in jealousy. But no, that's not really what he does. In reality, he's been a bit of a labrat for his scientist parents ever since he was born and there may have been an accident with some kind of keratin-enhancing substance which leaves patches of his hair, irises, and nails prone to growing in a bizarre, bright, almost glowing green color, like a sort of radioactive vitiligo. It's probably a good thing he's not the most self-conscious type. Otherwise, there's not much unusual about him. He's on the shorter side, standing at 5'5", his face youthful yet maturing. His olive skin is almost unfairly smooth and clear; he's overheard girls playfully griping about it behind his back.

His attire is... eclectic. He tends to be drawn to whatever he thinks looks "cool", though in reality it tends to make him seem like a bit of a dork. The colors black, green, and grey feature heavily in his wardrobe, all the way from his dumb customized trenchcoat to his pajamas. Even more goofily, he's attracted to anything with LEDs or glow-in-the dark capabilities, both of which his dumb trenchcoat feature (at the press of a button for the LEDs, naturally). He even has light-up shoes. This probably isn't the best attire for someone about to be tossed into the world of murder-mystery, but it's not like he knew about that, anyway. He defends his wardrobe choice to anyone who criticizes it.

    Personality:
Cooper is an exciteable dork, a trait which he gets from his exciteable dork parents. Growing up watching movies and anime, he seeks to emulate cyberpunk protagonists in all but setting. He tries to act moody and mysterious, but he's a sucker for attention. To most people, he seems like a little kid trying to make himself look older than he really is. However, this belies his intelligence. He's a whiz when it comes to doing anything with his hands - building, sewing, cooking, you name it and he's good at it. He has a particular interest in bulding machinery and creating items to enhance Pokemon beyond their natural limits, such as by teaching them normally impossible moves - which is what he's added to his own Pokemon. He can be a bit of a show-off when it comes to anything he made, somewhat desperate for an ego boost. The thing he craves most in life is a more solid parental or older sibling figure, as his parents weren't exactly mature and attentive.

    History:
Little Cooper was born in Canalave City, Hoenn, to two parents who were absent-minded enough when it came to their own bodies that they forgot contraception. Despite still being in college and working at the library, the two parents doted on their little boy... but more in a way that an aunt or uncle would dote on their new nephew. There was an odd sense of unattachment between the whole family, even if his parents were in love like newlyweds.

His parents were scientists, mainly working in genetics and bio-engineering to cure certain diseases (like cancers and malaria) and genetic malformities (such as Downs Syndrome). They occasionally used their son as a labrat, though thankfully nothing bad came from it - his "radioactive vitiligo" was an attempt at treating skin cancers with marking dye to see how it worked. It just so happened that the marking dye reacted strangely with the treatment and as such hasn't faded.

Cooper wasn't so bitter about his parents being more into their study than being into him. He grew up with a decent group of friends and interesting Pokemon... though he did have a bad habit of trying to steal attention from others (well, maybe he was subconsciously bitter). When left alone at home after school, he developed a habit of going out and wandering around and usually ending up in weird places like dumps and ship graveyards. He honestly had a lot of fun in those places, trying to build stuff out of junk metal and usually ending up with something that looked surprisingly cool but had no use. As he got a bit older, he spent afternoons after school in the library, reading up on engineering and mechanics and math, which he found all surprisingly intuitive for someone his age. Inspired, he sought out people who had experience in these areas - actual mechanics, architects, electricians and so on, and asked to shadow them. Of course, they were all skeptical about an eight-year-old trying to learn this sort of thing, but again he picked up everything surprisingly quickly and applied his new knowledge to his found-object creations. And despite lots of injury and failure, over the years he became adept and almost savant-like at his skill.

He found most of his Pokemon wandering around scrapyards and junkyards. Klefki was his first find, at the age of ten - it was pretty much doing the same thing he was, rummaging around for cool stuff. Instead, it found itself in a Pokeball when it wasn't paying attention. Despite this rude interruption, the two became quick friends. His Magnemite and Aron followed quickly in much the same way. His Escavalier was a gift from an online friend of his in Unova, as the friend was tricked into trading his Shelmet. Cooper soon put his tinkering abilities to the test by attaching enhancements to his Pokemon team - when someone noticed the flamethrower on his now-Magnezone, it erupted into a controversy as to whether it counted as abuse or a unique form of teaching Pokemon abilities that they usually wouldn't have. The controversy has died down since, but he still gets dirty looks whenever he uses these enhancements.

But it was the controversy which put him onto Hope's Peak's radar - with his unique outlook on training and what constitutes as fair play and how to effectively utilise everything in battle, and the fact he created all the enhancements by himself, made the school reach out the moment he graduated middle school. Naturally, both he and his parents were thrilled at the opportunity and immediately enrolled him.

    Pokemon Team:
    • Klefki - He has added a few keys with odd uses, though ones that wouldn't seem out of place on a keychain... mostly. One can be used as an LED flashlight and/or a (harmless) green laser. Another can be used like a makeshift hand saw. Another can work like a tazer (would only be akin to a Thunder Wave to other Pokemon, but rather effective against humans).
    • Escavalier - He has added an air-based jetpack, to allow it to move faster than usual... but only in quick spurts and without the ability to turn well.
    • Magnezone - He has attached a flamethrower to Magnezone. It seems to like it. However, there's only enough fuel for about three uses.
    • Lairon - Lairon eats anything Cooper tries to attach to it, so it's unaltered. It's a little bit bulkier than most because Cooper did try really hard and lost a lot of metal creations in the process.

    Other:
    • The whole thing about him being good with anything to do with his fingers? A lie. He can't play music to save his life. He's oddly sensitive about this fact.
    • He's much better at making his own kludged-together creations than fixing something broken. He can usually still fix things, but it takes longer than creating something unique.
    • He's more adept at making weaponry than something passive like a walkie-talkie. He can't quite make guns, though.

  • Very cool so far Tokio, I like the idea!

Although something that I did forget to mention, the school accepts one of every pokemon type trainer. So the trainer would work mostly with one typing, similar to gym leaders if that makes sense. You seem to have gotten that part on your own though, so nice. I'll add that to the main thread too.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your SU when its up.

Hello there! I don't follow the Danga Ronpa franchise but I'm itching for a new roleplay and I like the mystery, survival aspect of this! Will my character be smart enough to survive? We'll have to see...

    Rosalina Gonzalez
    _________
    Ultimate Scholar/Psychic
    Age: Fifteen.
    Gender: Female.

    Appearance:
Rosalina Gonzalez is a young woman with bronze-colored skin and dark, wavy hair. Her hair is naturally long, its curled ends hanging just by her shoulder blades. She wears thick glasses with lenses that near swallow her eyes. She habitually wipes them, usually when nervous or uncomfortable. She also tends to pick at her nails, which are unpainted with short yet jagged ends. But Rosalina almost always has her hands at work, or at least holding something, so it's difficult to notice. But with a typical height and average build, she blends in well.

Not to say that Rosalina has no unique qualities. If there is anything that sets her apart from a crowd, it is her face with its prominent cheek bones and expressive facial features. When excited or happy, her brown eyes twinkle behind her glasses and her face, as a whole, brightens up like a light bulb. She has a very photogenic smile as well, with large teeth to emphasize it. Rosalina might consider herself with modesty, but at least she can take a pleasant picture.

She has an affinity for plaid and pastel colors. Rosalina prefers pants over skirts; they're much more resilient and movement-friendly, in her opinion. She dresses in a self-effacing manner with long-sleeved shirts, hanging jeans, longish shorts, boots and sweaters. Rosalina has a habit of staying buttoned up, though she does seem relatively self-conscious about seeming "too nerdy".

    Personality:
The hardworking, undaunting nature of the Gonzalez lineage has resulted in the very studious Rosalina. She is the determined type who, after beginning a task, sees it through to the end. She is fantastic at setting goals, keeping promises and never goes back on her word. Rosalina is loyal through and through. Her peers look up to her for all of those traits, and she is seen back at home as impressively intelligent. Her parents taught her that hard work pays off and Rosalina takes their advice to heart. There is no one Rosalina loves and respects more than her mamá and papá.

Though Rosalina can act quite obsessively about the things she enjoys. She has a tendency to overthink situations and act overly skeptical, though she does have a good eye for the smaller details. She is also extremely hard on herself and especially vulnerable to stress because of this. Rosalina feels she must accomplish certain things—which is where her determined nature is rooted—in order to not feel horrid afterwards. In conversation, she tends to take jabs at herself, overall discounts her abilities and is reluctant to accept praise or lengthy compliments. Though Rosalina may appear the hardy type, she absolutely crumbles at peer pressure; she is extremely passive towards other people and tends to bend at their will in order to avoid causing offense. She struggles most at stepping out from her comfort zone and speaking out without fearing judgment.

    History:
    Spoiler:

    Pokemon Team:
    Poke-Ronpa: Year One - Despair
    Poke-Ronpa: Year One - Despair

    Other:
    • She prefers nonfiction, historical fiction and realistic fiction books most but also fancies encyclopedias, romantic novels and tales of mystery and suspense.
    • Has little to no tolerance for any form of bodily harm. Needles especially get under her skin, if you know what I'm saying.
    • Her favorite color is rose pink and she is addicted to bean chips.
    • Ironically, her English is much better than her Spanish, which is very rusty.

  • Alright, looks good both of you guys!

Tokio and Disclosed are both accepted!

I'm starting to consider dropping the RP sample part, mostly because of the fact that not that many people are applying right now. And so for now I'm going to say for you two to ignore that unless it does become needed.

Other than that, any questions or comments you guys have?

    Thank you!

The lack of a writing sample is pretty convenient, but I'd already planned to use mine to set up Rosalina and her little Unown friend. Because of that, I might go along and add one in anyway, as a sort of introduction to how I'll write her and again where the Unown guy came from.

But I don't have any questions at the moment, just anxious for other people to jump in!

  • Sounds good Disclosed, I used to use that RP sample to do pretty much the same with my characters, so go ahead if you would like.

Also to Tokio, couple questions I didn't really answer earlier. Western names are probably fine. You can do what you want, but western are probably easier to remember. And the design for Mono-Mew (Mew-nokuma?) is courtesy of Skymin, I take no credit for that! :D

And finally a question for you guys. Disclosed, I know you have said that you have not played Dangan Ronpa. So have you Tokio?

  • Heh, in all honesty, I haven't played it 'cause I don't have a Vita - but back in 2013, when it was becoming popular, I read orenronen's Let's Play of it (and the half-completed version of SDR2). There was something kind of special about reading it slowly with constant updates, like watching a TV show, rather than gorging on a game session. I got to see the JUNKOS joke in real time go from something goofy to something overused and then finally over to funny again. I also watched the anime but it was ~terrible~.

I'll be making some CSS for my profile at some point! I just don't wanna mess with coding at the moment.

EDIT: I lied about the coding.

  • Love the CSS Tokio, very neat looking.

And I dunno, I actually thought that the anime wasn't all that bad, although being practically high on cough medicine at the time probably helped out with that. Good to know though, so thanks.

  • I have only the slightest information about Dangan Ronpa (saw a few episodes of a fandub once), but this looks interesting!

    Name: Kasey Hotternell
    Age: 16
    Gender: Male
    Ultimate Foodie
    Fire-Type

    Appearance:
    Spoiler:

Kasey is short and stocky, weighing around 175 despite his underwhelming height of only 4' 2" (a fact he is very sensitive about, don't bring it up). Other than his *ahem*... size, he doesn't stand out much aesthetically. He has brownish hair and tannish skin, though with a big nose and somewhat prominent front teeth. He's broad-shouldered, barrel-chested, and (in a word) fat, but he's proud of his bulk, just not his height.

He prefers casual clothes, usually content with just jeans, running shoes, and a t-shirt, and he has a large collection of t-shirts with various designs on them (all of them food-related), with his favorite being a simple black shirt with a large donut on the front. He also owns a double-breasted white jacket, but only wears it in the kitchen.

Personality: A bit of a wild card, Kasey is usually a jolly, fun-loving guy who likes making food, eating food, and sharing food with friends. He's the first one to try and cheer someone up, whether by sharing a kind word, lending a shoulder and an ear, or throwing together a party. That said, he takes jobs very seriously, and is very proud of the work he does. When he gets serious, he's a bit of a control freak, barking orders and taking credit for himself.

Such differing mindsets indicate that he may be bipolar, hiding his stricter side under his goofy persona, but both give way to his angry side. Kasey has a bit of a temper, and while it's slow to appear, he sometimes explodes in anger, delivering furious rants and threats of bodily harm to whoever set him off and anyone that gets in his way. Afterwards, he is usually exhausted, and takes a while to recover, during which time he's more approachable, often showing remorse for his actions.

History: Although Kasey doesn't know where he was born, his foster mother tells him he was "delivered from the ocean by Cthulhu himself". The boy was only two years old when he washed up on the shores of Olivine City, closed inside a Hotternell (TM) brand oven. No one knows how he got inside the oven, but what is known is that the oven was part of a shipment of kitchen appliances being shipped to Cianwood and subsequently lost in a storm. Since no one came forward to claim the child, he was put into The System.

Kasey had a relatively normal childhood. His foster mother owned a Berry farm on the outskirts of town. She gifted him with a Cyndaquil on his fifth birthday, reasoning that he must have been attracted to heat and fire to crawl inside an oven. An elderly woman named Annie Smith (though Kasey called her "Granny" Smith) worked on the farm as a cook, and taught Kasey all she knew about working in the kitchen. Sadly, she passed on shortly after Kasey's tenth birthday, leaving him a Ponyta as her final gift.

Kasey didn't have many friends, but he had one close friend, a girl named Kira, who he would often go off on adventures with. She wanted to be a Pokethlon star, and encouraged Kasey to travel and see the world with her. Kasey agreed, wanting to try foreign cuisine. So the two left home on a journey spanning several countries (funded by Kira's parents), Kasey taking the opportunity to harvest ingredients for new recipes. His knowledge of various berries and herbs, along with his skill at improvisation, allowed him to create meals so delicious they could actually improve a Pokemon's physical attributes. His masterpiece came to him in a dream after catching a fever in the Safari Zone: by combining cheese from a Miltank, an egg from a Chansey, diced Haban Berries and leaves from a Pansage (along with his secret blend of eleven herbs and spices), he created an omelet that could heal the sick and wounded, and also provided all the nutrients of a three course meal.

Of course, no restaurant in the world would hire a teenager as their head chef, no matter how good their cooking. But Hope's Peak Academy offered Kasey a chance. By graduating from the most prestigious school in the world, all sorts of doors would open for him, and he could share his food with the world!

    Pokemon Team:
    Quilava - Kasey's first Pokemon
Ponyta - a gift from his "Granny" Smith
Lampent - recieved as a Litwick after buying a case of scented candles online (he's not sure how it got in there)

Other: Has a fear of water, cold, and small spaces.

    RP Sample: WIP

  • Good to have you Godzil, SU looks pretty good. You are officially Accepted!

Like I told the others, I'm calling the RP sample optional unless we get a sudden swell of applications, which at this point I doubt.

As a notice to all yall guys, I'm going to officially start the RP in about a week. By then I should have all my stuff in order, as well as giving others a chance to apply if they want.

  • Heh, a little bit like an unsleazy Teruteru, huh? I was actually a little worried about making Cooper a bit too similar to Souda since their talents are similar, but I think the failed chuuni aspect should mitigate that.

And yeah, the anime's bad since it's too compressed and rushed. Two episodes per case including the trial is sort of... really squishy. Doesn't give the audience any chance to piece it together themselves.

  • I wouldn't worry too much about copying characters too much Tokio. Especially from DR2. I found most of them to be unlikable and completely forgettable compared to the first game.

And I hated Teruteru. I did not like his character at all, too much of a perv.

Sigh, and now I will cry a single tear at the death of my fire, steel, and psychic NPCs. May you rest in peace in my imagination. :`(

  • Alright, just a heads up guys, I'm going to be performing surgery on my laptop earlier today. The case is starting to come apart at the hinges, and wires are starting to get exposed, so I really can't put it off any longer.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly. If it doesn't, I'll still be able to post, just slightly slower, so I might push back the start date if this fails. Not that it should or anything.

Anyways, if all goes well, I'm thinking of starting on Sunday if that's cool with everyone else.

  • Good news, taking my computer completely apart and putting it back together again didn't cause it to horribly die!

More good news, should be able to start the roleplay this Sunday. At that point no more SUs will be accepted.

  • Alright guys, I posted the IC thread, so you should see that pop up in a day or so, hopefully earlier. Instructions for posting will be contained within that thread, so I wont go into detail with that here. Other than that, I do have a couple other things for you. Contained within the first spoiler tag is a map of the first floor of the school. Within the second will be a sort of student register containing pictures, names, and talents of all NPC students. I'll add you guys as well at some point, but I'll leave that to a later date.

    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

Other than that, my only other news to announce is that we are no longer accepting SUs. Unfortunate that we didn't get more, but this should be fun anyway.

  • Update for you guys, apparently a roleplay requires 4 people in order to be accepted in the IC forum. I figured including me that made four, and I'm trying to get that sorted out. In the mean time, I'm opening up SUs again at least until the IC thread actually does go up, or another person or two applies.

Sorry for the wait/confusion if there was any.

    Poke-Ronpa: Year One - Despair

Personality: Jenna has a very feisty personality. Not afraid to pick a fight and back it up. She can be very standoff-ish until you have gained her respect which takes some serious time unless you are an expert battler like her. Treats her pokemon in the same manner, they don't even see the light of a battle until she feels that they deserve it. Shows no mercy on the battlefield or in life. (1-2 paragraphs)

History: Jenna grew up in the city of Oreburgh in Sinnoh. Growing up she idiolized Korrina over in Kalos. Her and her Lucario were just amazing in her eyes and inspired her to be a Fighting type master just like Korrina. When she was 13 she set out on the journey to be the best Fightin Type Trainer. Along the way she met her starter pokemon Mankey (Now a Primeape). She traveled all over Sinnoh, Kanto, and Kalos, Searching for the best Fighting type Pokemon so that she could challenge Korrina herself. In the process she entered the Sinnoh and Kanto leagues, finishing in the Top 16 at each.

After Finishing at the Kanto League, Jenna felt she was ready to take on Korrina and her Mega-Lucario. She traveled to Kalos and Korrina's gym and proceeded to get wiped out, all 6 of her pokemon fainted without even defeating one her's. More feisty than ever, she predicted that she would defeat Korrina if it was the last thing she'd do and ran out. 2 months later she saw the notice for he academy and applied and amazingly she got in. She feels well-prepared and can't wait to get started and begin her training to defeat Korrina. (2+ Paragraphs)
