The Monotype Challenge

As this is a Water type run, I picked Squirtle and named him Bash.

Pretty much a normal run so far.


Then I got this Magikarp. I named him Rush.


Misty was easy.


Rush evolved on Nugget bridge!


So much grinding to beat that Raichu...


Ericka, The Rocket Base, and the Lavender Tower flew by.

Then suddenly Bash evolves, I catch a Krabby and Name him Runt, and grinded him to my level.


Koga Happened, Then with Surf I caught a Psyduck named Rive (Which evolved right away), and Revived my Dome Fossil.


Then proceeded to destroy the rest of the game.


That's that. Water was definitely more fun than Rock was.

-Nimbus falls to yet another crit, this time to Ice Punch from Sneasel. Camilla takes down Golbat with a few Psybeams. Lastly, Snow takes out Murkrow with a couple AncientPowers

-Flew to Floroma Town to explore the Fuego Ironworks
-Flew to Sandgem Town to explore Route 219, 220. 221
-Flew back to Jubilife City and made my way to Canalave City
-Challenged Barry to a battle
-Snow falls to Staraptor's Take Downs after missing a few important AnicentPowers since Staraptor was able to set up multiple Double Teams. Ace manages to finish it off however with Aerial Ace. Laslow takes out Rapidash with multiple Headbutts. Camilla one shots Roserade with Psychic. Ace takes out Heracross with Aerial Ace. Lastly, Camilla takes down Empoleon with Thunderbolts.
-Explored the Iron Islands and met up with Riley
-Recieved HM Strength from Riley
-Battled the Galactic Grunts causing havoc with Riley
-Evolved Snow into a Togetic using a Shiny Stone I found (The team is now complete!)
-Returned to Canalave City and saved the game

- Received Bulbasaur from Professor Oak
- Defeated Brock at the Pewter Gym
- Bulbasuar evolved into Ivysaur
- Caught Paras at Mount Moon
- Caught Oddish on Route 24
- Caught a random Weedle to trade for Bellsprout through LeafGreen
- Defeated Misty at the Cerulean Gym

- Paras, Oddish and Bellsprout evolved into Parasect, Gloom and Weepinbell on the S.S Anne
- Caught Diglett for Cut HM slave
- Caught Voltorb for Flash HM Slave
- Almost forgot about Lt. Surge... Went back to Vermilion Citiy, defeated him
- Headed through Dark Cave
- Arrived at Lavender Town

- Bought a few Leaf Stones for evolution
- Evolved Gloom into Vileplume with the Leaf Stone
- Defeated Erica at the Celadon Gym
- Cleared out the Pokémon Tower
- Caught a Doduo for Flying HM slave
- Arrived at Fuchsia City
- Caught Exeggcute at the Safari Zone
- Evolved Exeggcute into Exeggutor with the Leaf Stone

- Defeated Koga at the Fuchsia Gym
- Caught Tangela on Route 21
- Battled Team Rocket at Silph Co. Trying to get past Green was a disaster with his Charizard... took about 4 tries
- Defeated Sabrina at the Saffron Gym
- Evolved Weepinbell into Victreebel with the Leaf Stone after it learned Razor Leaf
- After about 5 tries, was able to beat Blaine at Cinnabar Island
- Headed to go annihilate Giovanni right now!

I've started up Pokemon Yellow, got pikachu from prof Oak. I went to Viridian city, got the parcel and brought it back to Oak. Started training Pika and reached lvl 10.

Entered Viridian Forest (and walked back to viridian city to heal Pika a few times), by the end pika was lvl 15. I went on to Pewter City. Realised that Pika can't beat any ground-type pokemon with electric-type moves (only damaging move so far is thunder shock).
So I trained Pika to lvl 18 in Viridian Forest (he leaned quick attack at lvl 16, but i wanted to be on the safe side).

Got to the Pewter Gym and beat both the trainer and Brock with relative ease.

Afterwards I went to the east and beat a couple of trainers. There it was, Mt. Moon, the place where I could catch my first rock pokemon! It was a Geodude, which I met after a lot of battles with zubats. Found him at lvl 10 and started the training.

Geodude only knew 2 moves, tackle and defence curl, so he needed a lot of training while only tackling the pokemon in the tall grass outside of Mt. Moon.

After reaching lvl 16, he learned Rock Throw and I started exploring Mt. Moon. Found a few items and climbed a few staicases, but found myself running back to the pkmn centre a lot of times, so I decided to train a bit more.

After Geodude reaching lvl 22 I started to battle trainers and this went rather well, Just had a bit of trouble defeating an Oddish, because I had to hit Oddish 3 times to defeat it and it hit me with absorb, which geodude can't really handle. Belsprout was easy though, only using growth.

Walking through Mt. Moon wasn't that dificult, trainers wern't that hard, just had to get back to the pkmn centre a few times, because geodude ran out of damaging moves. He learned selfdestruct, which is pretty useless when you only have one pokemon and he evolved at lvl 25 by the way. I reached Cerulian City, walked up a bit and there was my rival. Beat him with Graveler, who had not that much trouble, but this all happened before I could go to the pokemon centre. I was exploring the city, but kind of ... got lost? I don't know, but I walked a but too far to the north anyway.

After that I ... Wait, that is where I am right now.

VanillaIce the Vanilluxe Lv. 55 (M)

This was the Pokemon I traded in to replace my starter, due to the lack of Ice-types at the beginning of the game. All things considered, I thought Vanillite did a good job of carrying me through the beginning of the game, despite a bit of trouble from Roxie. Once I caught Eevee, I immediately started to focus on training it to match Vanillite, and as a result Vanillite wasn't used much. Throughout most of the middle of the game, Vanillite wasn't used much - until it evolved into Vanillish and once again became the dominant Pokemon of the team. Once I caught Walrein, Vanillish did get less battle time, and again when the final three Pokemon were caught, but did gain some of its relative usefulness back when it evolved into Vanilluxe. Throughout the entire playthrough, Vanilluxe was a powerful special attacker as well as having been fast enough to get in a nice STAB Ice Beam after one of my other Pokemon fainted. I would say that VanillaIce was the third-best on my team.

Snowdin the Glaceon Lv. 51 (M)

Snowdin was the second Pokemon I caught in the game, and its usefulness generally declined as the game progressed, though it did have its moments late in the game. When I first caught Snowdin, it was a very strong physical attacker that helped take down a lot of tougher opponents. However, once Vanillite evolved, Snowdin became much less used. In an effort to boost its power, I traded Snowdin over to a nearly-completed White save file and evolved it into Glaceon. Though this did help with stats, Snowdin lost STAB with all of its powerful moves, not to be gotten back until it learned Blizzard late in the game. Despite all of this, Snowdin kept one incredibly useful move: Charm. I was able to get numerous physical Fighting- and Rock-types' Attack to next to nothing, which made some gyms a breeze. Overall, Snowdin was the fourth-best Pokemon on the team.

Wizrobe the Walrein Lv. 58 (M)
Relaxed Nature
Ability: Thick Fat

I knew even before I started this playthrough that Walrein would be a must-have due to its Water type. I wasn't able to catch it until halfway through the game, but after that, it was incredibly useful, taking down so many Fire- and Rock-types that otherwise would have destroyed my team. Besides this, Walrein was also a good tank that I knew I could swap in if I needed someone else to not take a hit. Finally, Walrein was the lucky catch of the run. I found Walrein as a Walrein in a patch of rippling water in Undella Bay, which I had a 5% chance of getting, in my first rippling water encounter of the area. Overall, Wizrobe was my second-most useful Pokemon on the team.

Claw was one of the three Pokemon I caught in the Giant Chasm as soon as I got to Humilau City. Claw's usefulness was limited at best, mainly because of its poor moveset. Despite being the fastest Pokemon on the team, its poor defensive stats didn't allow for Claw to stay in for much more than one move before fainting. I had originally intended for Claw to be the one to fight both Shauntal and Caitlin, but I quickly ditched this plan after Claw fainted in both fights. Overall, Claw was the second-worst Pokemon on the team.

Similarly to my Silver run, I caught Delibird here primarily as a Fly slave. However, unlike in Silver, I actually tried to use it in battle here. I figured that Delibird would be at least an option against Flghting-types... But Delibird's uselessness proved me wrong. Overall, Delibird was the worst Pokemon on the team, but Fly did help with travel a bit.

Pigzilla the Mamoswine Lv. 61 (F)

As with Wizrobe, I knew from the start of the playthrough that I would need to catch a Piloswine to have a chance at beating the game. Pigzilla was the last Pokemon I caught out of the six in the team, but by far wasn't the least useful. Even before it evolved, Pigzilla was a very strong physical attacker, though was a bit slow. The Ground-type moves Pigzilla learned were a huge help against Colress, who I probably wouldn't have been able to defeat without Pigzilla. Though being a great Steel-type counter, Pigzilla was just amazing overall, taking down other Ice-types and even Water-types with relative ease, despite the type disadvantage. Once Pigzilla evolved into Mamoswine, it's Attack went even higher, but more importantly, it gained a huge speed boost, making it the second-fastest Pokemon on the team. With this combination of stats and moveset, Pigzilla was easily the best Pokemon on the team and the run would've been near-impossible without it.

Minrel was awesome. He decimated anybody who dared to stand in front of him. The only thing though, is that he fell really easy to water and grass moves due to the double weakness... which made a few things difficult.


Crytex was okay. He was really good at first, with his high attack and defense. But his usefulness dropped off a little after Dig stopped OHKO'ing things. He was still only "okay" even after I taught him Earthquake. One great perk of his though, is being faster than Golem, which is what helped me beat Clair.


Funny story about Flare being a Nidoqueen, actually. The short version is that I thought the Moon Stone required Waterfall to obtain... Which is true in HGSS. In GSC, you only need Surf. Wait so you mean I didn't have to use a Nidorina that whole time? Aaaaargh.

Once she finally became a Nidoqueen, she shot up in usefulness so high, I just wanted to use her all the time. It was great.

-Entered the Canalave City Gym
-Challenged Byron to a battle
-Recieved the Mine Badge
-Byron leads of with Magneton while I choose Snow as my lead. Aura Sphere manages to one shot Magneton. Bastidon gets taken down by a few Rock Smashes from Mable. Lastly, Camilla takes out Steelix with Grass Knots.
-Went to the Library with Barry to meet up with Professor Rowan and Lucas
-Saw the big explosion at Lake Valor
-Flew to Veilstone City and made my way to Lake Valor
-Challenged Saturn to a battle
-Saturn leads with Golbat while I lead with Snow. Air Slash almost takes out Golbat but Saturn switches into his Bronzor. Snow takes down Bronzor with Flamethrower instead. Camilla destroys Toxicroak with Psychic. Lastly, Nimbus finishes off Golbat with Strength
-Made my way to Lake Verity to help out Lucas
-Challenged Mars to a battle
-Mars leads with Golbat while I lead with Nimbus. Strength easily knocks out Golbat. Snow takes out Bronnzor with Flamethrower. Finally, Ace takes down Purugly with a combination of Aerial Ace and Close Combat. Purugly was quite annoying due to Hypnosis and Fake Out.
-Flew back to Hearthome City and made my way to Lake Acuity.

Minrel was still awesome as usual. He carried on being a destructive force of terror all throughout Kanto.


I feel bad for not using him more now. Many battles would've been lost (or at least very difficult) without him. His Mud Slap saved the day in the battle against Red. Falkner would be proud. *Salutes*


Still great, still wish I'd known I could've evolved her sooner. Attract was really helpful whenever I knew I was in a tough spot. It helped shut down Red's Blastoise, who kindly let me Thunder Punch him to smithereens.
