Name: Angelos "Angel" Kai Marlowe
Age: 24
School: Hidden Way
Element(s) Pressure (Air + Water), Gravity
Basically this but not the hat. Also he's short like 5'7" ish? (Maybe a little shorter)
Fighting Style: When Angel begins a battle he creates raging gusts of wind around him and his opponent. He uses the the field as a way to attack as well as intimidate or throw off an opponent. Unless Angel sends an attack towards his opponent this field is nothing but strong winds and therefore does not use up a lot of energy. This field also gives him a wider range when controlling the flow of Aether in one area (though how it flows depends on how he controls the winds as well). The winds (in conjunction with water magic) here are strong, fierce winds in order to make an unstable flow in Aether that makes it hard to use long-ranged attacks. The closer an opponent can get to him, the easier Aether flows. However, Angel fights back his opponents by sharpening the winds around them to attack or by attacking with long-range blasts of water. These long-ranged attacks hold great amounts of power and are used to knock opponents off their feet, wind them, and by other means exhaust them through battle damage. Once Angel gets an opponent off their feet it's hard to avoid a barrage of attacks. If he can catch them, Angel will also uses his power of gravity to hold his opponents down and attack them from there. If his opponent manages to get close he has another trick up his sleeve.
To defend against close-range attackers, Angel puts up a vortex of wind. This vortex spins rapidly around him. It acts as a thick wall that can diffuse (and even use to its advantage) attacks that aren't strong enough to penetrate it. However, this wall is not impregnable. It can be passed through with the great cost of injury. Not only are the winds moving fast here, but they're razor sharp, making passage a risky task. Maintaining the wall takes much more energy for Angel to maintain, especially considering that through this wall he continues to make attacks. If they're quick on their feet, an opponent could very well outlast him in this state. It would be easier to just try and bypass the vortex, though. Once inside, Angel has very little defenses. His specialty is long-ranged attacks and his abilities at fighting close-range (while still powerful) is not as trained. Fighting Angel in short-range combat is easy. His magic moves much faster than his body and his sluggish attacks are no match against someone who has quick movements. Angel also carries no combat weapon, so his fighting would rely solely on hand-to-hand, putting anyone with a weapon at an advantage. For those who aren't aremed they would have to watch out for his fists. While they aren't knock-out ready by themselves, Angel is more than ready to cover his hands in Air or Water magic to deal more powerful blows. By fighting close up, Angel's opponent has a good chance of disorienting him and disrupting his magic.
Still, it's obvious that Angel's fighting style relies on long ranged fighting rather than close-ranged and he does everything to stop his opponent from getting too close. While he doesn't have any weapons to fight with (as he focuses all of his power into his magic wielding) he does have certain items that can assist him. Angel uses caltrops to aid him in battle. Because of their small size he can carry hundreds of the small spikes with him for battle. Since he is slow moving and prefers long-ranged attacks, Angel does not move from the spot he begins battle in. By placing these caltrops around him, he is able to protect himself from those he may try to brave their way past his vortex. If he's in a real pinch he can suck these items into his vortex to make the wall all the more dangerous. If he so chooses Angel can also collect his caltrops and use them in his ranged attacks, but prefers not to.
If all else fails, Angel has one last resort: The Typhoon. This is certainly his most powerful attack. If Angel can get his opponent away from him he can combine his air and water magic to create a powerful cyclone around him. Using his power over gravity as well, Angel can lift himself off the ground, and with the improved mobility, follow and attack his opponent. In this state, Angel's field of wind has dissipated but the power of his typhoon is increased. With the power of wind, water, and his hundreds of caltrops combined, Angel is certainly dangerous. With what can be described as cyclone-arms, Angel sends blow after blow towards his opponents below until he has successfully defeated them. Or runs out of juice. In his most powerful state, Angel consumes great amounts of his energy and can only maintain this form for a short amount of time. However, under such a barrage of powerful attacks, even a few minutes can feel like forever.
Personality: Above all else Angel favors the strength of his peers. He has little or no regard for those he considers weak and will pay them no heed and little respect. Luckily for others, not being able to beat him in battle does not necessarily grant the weak title from Angel. Victory in battle is his top priority and he will stop at nothing to achieve that victory. Besting his peers is simply something he considers a given. Knowing that, it's little wonder why Angel had joined the School of Unbound Thought.
Because of the value he puts in the trials of battle, Angel detests those who cheat by using blackmail or deceit in order to gain an advantage in battle. There is no true victory unless one faces their opponent head on and at full strength. Otherwise it is a useless game to show-off. His feelings are the same if not greater for those who flee battle. For Angel, a battle is not complete without a clear victor and retreating does not make a clear victor. Those who turn and run are still as much a target for Angel and he will not hesitate (in fact he would gladly) strike them down before they are able to escape. His hatred for cowards is so strong that he is known in the schools he's been in to add power in the attacks he uses against fleeing foes. Almost as if to punish them for their actions. Their was a time when he had broken the back of a fleeing opponent. Angel is also not a fan of starting a battle unless his opponent is well aware that it is going to happen. Battle should not be an ambush and while he doesn't completely detest those who practice taking their opponents off-guard, he does take it as a sign of cowardice.
Outside of battle Angel is a very obviously confident individual. He does not doubt his abilities in magic and would swear that he could best any individual that challenges him. He's arrogance makes him cocky and rude and he is quick to challenge those who doubt his might. His attitude can make him hard to make acquaintance with, especially when first meeting. However, those he considers possible equals or partners are able to see a more bearable (though marginally) side of him (as long as they don't weaken themselves, that is). Those lucky individuals will learn that Angel is at time unfocused.
Not completely unfocused, but enough that one can see that he has a hard time concentrating. Either being overwhelmed by details or taking a long time to think through plans and strategies. It is hard for him to ignore outside distractions or details that aren't as important as he may make them. This fact makes the Rage Style even more valuable to him. In battle it focuses his mind and eliminates the threat of distraction. However, that doesn't change who Angel is. As a battler he focuses on long-range attacks which are easier for him to focus on and target at. However up close is much harder for him and maintaining his magic as well as fight with an opponent close to him proves difficult. It breaks his concentration, even enough to break through the walls of the Rage Style. With his focus gone, Angel's magic becomes more powerful but less controlled and accurate and his magic consumption increases. He can resume the Rage Style after this happens, but the break in concentration can prove too devastating of a blow.
History: At just five years old Angel discovered his hidden power to control the elements. When he was young his parents could see him playing with and controlling small currents of air around him. When he was of age at six Angel was able to join a small, local school for children to practice some of the techniques the School of Focused Mind taught just close by. There Angel was able to begin basic forms of meditation and techniques to strengthen his mind well before those who discovered their abilities at a later age. There, Angel took up using the powers of both air and water, two of the primary elements honed at the School of Focused Mind. Just in these primary stages others could see the great potential he possessed in expanding his powers as long as he kept on the right track. At the age of twelve, Angel was old enough to join the School and begin his official training. Continuing to expand his power over Aether Angel quickly showed that he was a proficient user. At the same time it was here that his flaws came out. Though he was a powerful user, his thirst for victory made him wild in battle. Angel found himself unable to focus enough to properly execute his abilities. The pressure to win made his movements and attacks erratic and he consumed too much power on simple moves. While he did win some of his battles he lost many which only worsened his performance. Sure, he was able to put great damage on an opponent, but that was not the only component to victory. Seeing his issue, Angel's parents suggested he go to a different school, one where he could not only strengthen his mind, but focus it. At their wish Angel left Maylūs and headed for Tassa. Just before his sixteenth birthday, Angel enrolled at the School of Unbound Thought. There where the fire, lightning, and Earth elements thrived, Angel was a minority. Certainly he was unimpressive with his lack of control, but it was Unbound Thought's teaching that became his salvation.
As Angel learned and honed his abilities with Rage Style he was able to quickly prove his worth to his peers. With his power enhanced by meditation in his schooling before and on his journey there. As time went on Angel was able to use both his learned techniques and techniques he was just beginning to master to best those who faced him. As he mastered the techniques of Unbound Thought Angel's power became more focused and he shaped into a skillful, but ruthless mage. In battle Angel quickly immobilized his opponents, either with strategy or through injury. For the most part his battles seemed to end quickly and painfully and he soon became known for his ruthlessness. There had been times where his battles ended in near death for his opponent, sometimes worse. The first accident had been met with sorrow and the second a warning. Even with what had happened though, Angel showed to be a great opponent.
By his twenties Angel was able to join Unbound Thought's team for their future tournaments. Here he could see victory available to him and it was. On this team their victories were easily met and he had even had the pleasure of showing his old school the results of his new training. However it would be here at Unbound Thought that Angel would meet his downfall. It was during a match against the School of Restrained Fist that his glory would end. For the past few tournaments there had been student there that had done greatly in the tournaments before. They had given Angel and his teammates a hard time which had made things difficult for Angel to fulfill his desires for victory. They had trained tirelessly to defeat this team and it was during this battle that they had the upper hand. Their training had come through and victory was at their hands. Just winning the match was not quite how Angel pictured the victory, however.
The Rage Style clears the user's mind of anything but the means to achieve their victory. It affects Angel no differently and in this state he can understand hardly more than the victory calling him. He knew that even if he had beaten the mage of Restrained Fist today the next tournament he would come back stronger than ever. That was just how skilled the mage was. If they won today it wasn't likely they would win tomorrow, especially with their new strategies revealed. It had taken years for them to overcome this mage and now to lose that so quickly? Where was the victory in that? It was Angel's drive to win that pushed him to make their victory more permanent.
The battle ended in the death of the mage. When the battle ended the victory they should have received was given instead to the School of Restrained Fist and Angel was immediately sent to receive his punishments when he arrived back at Unbound Thought. Luckily, it was uncertainty that saved him from particularly harsh punishment. Angel had killed before, though by accident, and in discussions no one could agree for certain whether the death of the mage had been on purpose or once again by accident. Either way, Angel had been warned before and the magnitude of his possible crime forced an expulsion rather than anything more severe.
After leaving Unbound Thought he attempted to join other schools, but news of his actions had traveled quickly and he was rejected at every turn. The only school that would accept him by then was Hidden Way. While he didn't agree completely with their methods, Angel was satisfied to be part of a school that could accept all forms of victory (though he would still have to be careful during tournaments). When asked, though, he never gives a clear answer on whether that moment in the tournament or any of the incidents before had been accidents or intentional.
Angel is currently one of the offensive players at Hidden Way.
