    Pokémon Magma Ruby 202

Magma Ruby 202 is a far more challenging hack of Pokemon Ruby, where 202 pokémon can be caught.
New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202

    https://www.mediafire.com/download/lgsb9ja9v3o2ca5/Pokemon+-+Magma+Ruby+202+Version+%28UE%29.ips

There are now text file attachments at the bottom. More may be coming.

    Introduction
The reason why I made a hack of pokemon ruby, instead of emerald or even sapphire, is because this would have the most ingame balance of all the third gen hacks. Also, I felt that the villain teams and rival were far to easy and anticlimatic, so this hack does make them a bit more respectable. Some bosses were also rather easy to beat. Plus, the reason why it is a 202 hack instead of a 386 hack, is because there really aren't many 202 hacks. As to why this is a beta, well, I really wanted to implement ev spreads on bosses, but I am horrible with asm.

Another reason why it's ruby, and not emerald and sapphire, is because of the main legendaries you get. Rayquaza is quite overpowered,(especially at level 70 in the original emerald...) and don't even get me started on how brokenly powerful Kyogre is. To put this into perspective, a level 45 Kyogre is more effective at brutally destroying the game than a level 70 Rayquaza.

This hack was made with tools like yape, advancemap 1.92, advanced mart, advancetrainer, etc, and my resource was bulbapedia.

    Features
As the title implies, you can catch all 202 pokemon from the hoenn dex… as long as you beat the game though. Day and night is there for atmosphere.
New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202

The game is a bit harder than the original, with bosses with full teams, good moves, and wildcards. Route minibosses, joke minibosses, magma grunts, and gym trainers are trickier to beat than the standard trainers found in routes.
New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202
Now I am aware that this hack will be compared with hacks like Expert Emerald and other 386 hacks, but there are some differences between Expert Emerald and Beta Ruby in terms of battles
    1. Expert Emerald has a lot of double battles for gym fights and elite four fights. This one, apart from one gym leader, does not have double battles, and instead has solid single battles.
    2. Most difficulty hacks stick to full monotypes for gym leaders. For the most part of Ruby 202, Gym Leaders do stick to their type, but apart from a few gym leaders, every gym leader has a wildcard to add diversity to the fights.
    3. Many gym trainers in Beta Ruby have far more diverse pokemon alongside the lesser representatives of the gym type.
    4. Team Magma overall uses a significantly bigger variety of types, not just ground and fire. However, each of them do have relations to land.
    5. The Elite Four focus's on strategies according to their bios, as opposed to simply monotypes. However, they do have their ace pokemon.
    6. And in addition, there are some additional minor bosses. Most range from joke fights, to slightly tougher route bosses, to secret optional bosses.
    7. Absence of EVs.

There is a lucky egg in the trick house as you progress, so there is some incentive to visit trick house. Though the level curve isn't excessive. And the post game has a hidden trick house prize...

    Boss Level Curves
Bosses and their levels. (Unless otherwise, all gym leaders and bosses have full teams of six) Some might be double battles, so make sure to have two pokemon with you at all times to avoid glitches, cause I can't asm to save my life, so there is nothing to protect you if you have one pokemon vs a double battle. Biggest regret though is being unable to implement ev spreads. If that ever happens, expect the update to have them. This is useful if you want to keep an eye on the levels, without spoiling movepools and pokemon. It should be noted that the level curve of the bosses is done based on me simply fighting every single trainer in the game, with a well balanced team, and the most minimal grinding done is done after Wallace, since I am not fond of grinding on wild pokemon. That way, the estimation of grinding for bosses will be minimal, unless someone wishes to beat the level curve.
    1. Rival 1 (5)
    2. Magma grunt (miniboss, 8x3,9)
    3. Roxanne (12, 13,14x3,16)
    4. Magma grunt (14,15,15,16)
    5. Brawly (16,16,15,16,17,17)
    6. Magma grunts (17-18)

    24. Wally (92x5,95)
    25. Elite Four (All level 100) (At this point, you will be able to purchase rare candies that cost a mere $1, so that end game grinding is a non issue)

    Earlier Encounters
In this hack, you will encounter earlier and more common wild pokemon than the original ruby. Check the pokedex often to see where to find wild pokemon, and keep in mind that there are separate areas for pokemon.

Many pokemon have improved growth rates, and appear earlier.

Be warned that some of the stronger pokemon, like skarmory and abra, appear rather late, to keep in wild pokemon balance. You can get something like vigoroth and seadra for the whole portion of the game, but won't get kingdra and slaking until the near end. Again, check your pokedex, you will encounter enemies with big varieties of pokemon. Some pokemon, like legendaries and a select few pokemon won't even be encountered until after you beat the champion.

You won't be able to get another starter until after the eighth badge unfortunately, so make sure you choice counts.

    Fishing Encounters
Evolution stones a bit earlier, except for water stone, for more powerful water pokemon
Earlier Old rod that fishes early water dwellers, examples
    1. Goldeen
    2. Luvdisc
    3. Carvanha
    4. Corsola
    5. Corhpish
    6. Clamperl
    7. barboach
New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202(old image, pond is altered)New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202

Some pokemon have some changes to abilities, level up movepools, and evolutions for balancing purposes.
Clamperl evolves into Huntail with a moon stone, which appears a bit earlier than the other stones, so that jigglypuff and skitty evolves earlier. That, and gorebyss is better than huntail.
Clamperl evolves into Gorebyss with a sun stone.

All the other stones, with the exception of the water stones, appear in fallarbor town.
The water stone, evolves these pokemon
    Staryu into starmie
    Lombre into ludicolo
    Feebas into Milotic
Wailmer into Wailord (who has a massive stat boost and stat rearrangement comparable to arcanine)
    Seadra into Kingdra
As for the remaining legendaries, be sure to check out Battle Tower…
However, don't expect particularly hard fights or interesting pokemon in water routes… cause seriously, that got old fast. Abandoned ship does have a secret boss though in between Norman's levels and Courtney's levels.
You can get the regi trio after beating Wallace, but be careful, legendaries have lower catch rates.
Always check the marts for items.
Keep in mind, very few pokemon can use thief or covet. Luvdisc gets both though…
At certain points of the game, you can simply rest and refresh yourself. These screenshots display the areas where you can rest and heal your pokemon.
Trade evolutions Graveler evolves into Golem at level 42, same level as rhydon.
Machoke evolves into machamp at level 50
Kadabra evolves into alakazam at level 55

    Additional Healing Spots
In addition, there are some areas you can rest so you don't have to backtrack more than necessary.
New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202

All in all, I hope you have fun with this hack if you want a different experience with 202 pokemon.

    Notes
Initially, I really do want to put ev spreads on the bosses, but I sadly don't have the capabilities to do so. However, I decided on a new feature. For the sake of challenge, no pokemon in the game gives out evs, and you cannot purchase or find any stat boosting vitamins. This becomes a bit noticable when going through boss fights. You still have badges boosting your stats though. This will encourage you to devise strategies rather than simply overgrinding and just overpowering the opposition.

    Post Game Rematches
The post game includes gym leader rematches on the boat, all of which are level 100, and with very powerful and upgraded teams.

NOTE: I couldn't completely change the dialog for Tate and Liza, so there might be some very awkward dialogue from them.

In fact, you could see some of the boss rematch teams in the spoiler tag:
    Spoiler:

They do stick to their type, like in the originals, but all of them does have a wildcard, or other special strategy to remain formidable.

Finally, if you want to catch the remaining legendaries, be sure to check out where the "Battle Frontier" is.

    Additional Updates
It should be noted that the patch is prone to updating, so make sure you keep in touch.

Some changes to encourage use of less than stellar pokemon, though these aren't the only changes, these are examples:
Magcargo gets Heat Wave, a move no other pokemon gets. (which is buffed, 30% chance of burn, and 100 accuracy). It also has 120 base special attack, the highest of the fire types.
Ninetails has 100 base special attack instead of 81.
Spinda gets Teeter Dance (which has been altered) and Hypnosis (which has buffed accuracy)
Chimecho gets Hypnosis, with buffed accuracy.
Mawhile gets super fang and superpower, at later levels.
Skitty gets faint attack and double edge earlier
Linoone gets guts for it's ability (acting similar to quick feet because gluttony does not exist and pickup is a horridly broken ability in Ruby and sapphire)
Luvdisc gets covet and thief. This can be valuable since every boss has a rare hold item, or at least useful hold item. It should be noted that the majority of the pokemon that used to learn thief, no longer does, so luvdisc can actually fullfill a niche as a thief. Same goes for Delcatty.
New update has Metagross back on Steven's team.

    Spoiler:

Level 45 Kyorge more effective at destroying the game than a level 70 Rayquaza? Not quite, at least in my eyes... Rayquaza just OVERKILLS the elite 4 and champion. Funny thing is, that Emerald actually allows you to catch a level 70 Rayquaza, BEFORE THE ELITE 4! That's crazy! IIRC, you can even get it before the 8th gym... That's OP! Groudon is still good though... Looks good, though! BTW, why rare candies? THE worst way of leveling up pokemon! It doesn't add the stats for EVs! And just being a cheap way of getting level 100s! You should consider putting in a special training spot, before the elite 4, with Blisseys and stuff! Stuff with high experience give-offs! Maybe a special section to the victory road?

Problem is, that this is a 202 hack, and blissey wasn't found in ruby originally. Second is that I am no good at asm, so I can't exactly implement immediate rematches.

By the time you get to the Ever Grande city mart, your pokemon are most definitely going to reach their maximum ev limit of 512. So adding rare candies doesn't really hinder these pokemon. It actually makes leveling up significantly faster at the very end. Much faster than stuff with high exp gifts combined with lucky eggs (you can find a lucky egg in the trick house).

As to why level 45 kyogre is more effective:
    1. It gets calm mind right from the start, which raises it's strongest stat special attack, and buffers it's only two special weaknesses, and can be done over and over. Also, it has no physical weaknesses.
    2. It gets drizzle, which gives it several advantages.
    - Powers up water moves like surf or hydro pump, which combined with stab, gives surf, which is a reusable hm by this point, 213.2 power, which is extremely powerful and will inflict serious damage or outright one shot everything that doesn't resist it. Only water, grass, and dragon types resists it. Half of Steven's team are weak to water by the way.
-. It makes it that thunder, a base 120 electric move with normally 70 accuracy, into a move that has the accuracy of swift, so the double teamers in sidney's team, pheobe's team, and steven's and wallaces' team are wiped out, and it's chance of paralysis is 30% as opposed to 10% in thunderbolt, and it demolishes water types that are common in the elite 4. Wallace's 4 water types gets annihilated by thunder, while whiscash gets wrecked by surf or hydro pump. You can get thunder very easily in the lilycove department store.
    4. Finally, it gets ice beam by the time you catch it as well, which gives it perfect coverage on everything but lanturn, which the elite four or wallace doesn't even have. This trivializes drake so badly with the 4x weaknesses to ice beam coming from 150 base special attack, assuming it hasn't been boosted by the aforementioned calm mind.
    5. Kyogre's only weaknesses are to electric and grass type attacks. Only cradily and cacturn can actually damage kyogre, but both are slow, cacturne is destroyed by ice beam, though cradily can survive it, but will be hurt badly by it.
    6. There are no electric types in the elite 4, and the only thunder user is Aggron, who is much slower and has terrible special defense... and its weak to water.
    7. Even without drizzle and calm mind, it still has perfect special coverage, with thunderbolt instead of thunder, and it still has more than sufficient bulk, and very few weaknesses.

Compared to the level 70 rayquaza, which is ridiculous in it's own right
    1. It does get dragon dance, but its stab move is fly, which can miss. Also, protect users makes using fly a bit more annoying.
    2. It's special stab is outrage, which is only supereffective against drake, so the others can survive outrage in third gen. Plus, the self confusion really is annoying on something with 150 base attack.
    3. It's got a nasty weakness to ice moves, and a critical hit ice beam from a lv 50 sealeo could actually kill the big dragon.
    4. You are going to have to teach it tms to take advantage of dragon dance, as opposed to kyogre, who's only tm is the rather common thunder in lilycove.

Now rayquaza does have a higher level than kyogre, much higher than anything in the main game, and honestly, if used right, can solo the remaining game. But Kyogre can accomplish that same task while at a much lower level. If rayquaza was much lower leveled, then you will see its weaknesses. Groudon is very solid, but not as gamebreaking as the other two.

Tile error? You mean that non green dusty patch? That was there in the original. If you are talking about the pond, what do you mean, is it missing surf movement permissions?

EDIT: The pond's bottom part is missing a shore... oops, must have missed that... Gen 1 didn't have a shore at the bottom part either so, an honest mistake. If there are more serious bugs, I'll be sure to update. You do get more pokemon, so it isn't that bad.

Haha! Wonderful hack! Just started playing it yesterday, and I decided to level up my torchic to level 16 to evolve to combusken! The tall grass with the fire types in oldale town made it very easy, just looong! and you can bet the rival got his sorry but kicked with my EVOLVED STARTER! my level 16 combusken vs his level 5 mudkip! He got owned. Then in roxanne's gym, I had caught a cacnea in the grass in roxboro city! Seriously, roxanne was very hard! Lucky as hell I had all the items i did... O.O loving it so far, though... Planned team at the end:
    Blaziken
    Salamence
    Swampert
    Crobat (MAYBE, happiness evolution sucks...)
    <insert good psychic type here>

seriously, anyone have good ideas for the psychic type? Maybe thinking of Espeon, or Alakazam... But, again, I don't like happiness evolutions, so...
EDIT: I got it! Metagross! DONE!

Okay, I will complete the pond with the correct tilesets, so expect another update!

Cool! Anything else coming with the update? Just wondering! :P
BTW, how do you like the current team plan that I posted above? Seems alright, no? And I MAY change Crobat? Any suggestions? Maybe something like Dark, or Ghost type?

Update's done, it's really just fixing the pond and fixing movement permissions.
Crobat does evolve by level instead of happiness, but it will evolve at level 50, due to actually being very powerful.

Oh, OK! Well... I might check up on some other members available in ruby! Thanks for the info, though!

EDIT: I think I may go with Gengar... It looks to be alright... And maybe a suggestion... If possible, maybe add the physical/special split, and maybe edit some of the HM moves to be more useful...

Rock smash did get a small power boost. Cut won't be necessary in this hack though. No mandatory cut use. Though I would advise not skipping winona, cause fly is mandatory for level sequence.
Also, I made one more update, relating to ev gainss in the game, to add just a bit more difficulty in midgame. Best I can do if I can't get actual ev spreads on bosses.

I have one new but very significant update
There are overworld updates on the regi trio.
New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202New Ruby Hack: Pokemon Magma Ruby 202

But most importantly of all, there are gym leader rematches when you beat the game. They are all at level 100, and half of them are double battles. You can find them on the boat, but be warned that if you beat them, you will never be able to fight them again.

Anyway, be sure to update the patches! Hopefully this is the last update!

    Spoiler:

Now that was kinda long =.=.. anyways it looks like I'm requesting a hack with these suggestions =.=.. anyways Good Luck on your hack... When it's already in it's Final Version maybe I'll make a Screenshot Nuzlocke Challenge to go with it :D.

Edit: I'd also like to see the Togepi line in this game cuz' Serene Grace, Air Cutter.. that's why =D But then this is a 202 Hack but meh..

It's just good old third gen mechanics, so there is no physical/special split. This hack strictly has the original 202 pokemon that are encounterable and catchable, including legendaries that weren't found in ruby are now post game. The newest update now has boss rematches at the very end of Trick House and the S.S.Tidal ferry, as well as the Wally rematches. (As to why there are so many updates, ideas just pop into my head after a certain period of time, and some instances, like Wally, I accidentally overlook.) EV's won't be relevant in this hack, just saying that now. Sadly no ingame trades are changed, mostly because there really isn't much to trade, as many pokemon here are encounterable. Grass patches have been added in cities to add to diversity, and give a steady spot to train. I wouldn't worry about the actual battle tower battles either, since that won't be present in this hack.
Cut isn't changed much because cut is no longer a mandatory HM.
I supposed I could assemble a detailed document of the changes at some point.

I did change three trades, although I couldn't change the ivs. These trades contain pokemon that you won't normally get early on, or if they are too difficult to get. That is one of the first of several updates to the patch, due to some hindsight issues, but I think I got everything that I could handle done.

I also added a couple of lists of changes. I might do movepools lists when I'm not busy.

I have a major update for Pokemon Magma Ruby 202, which is it's new title now. (Not to be confused with another hack called "Magma Ruby", since it doesn't have a "202" in it's title, or "Omega Ruby", which is the remake.

There are new ingame trades, though I sadly couldn't change the ivs. There are also some additional downloadable documents that dictate the changes. There are still quite a bit more documentation that I have to catch up with, without revealing too much. However, new pictures have been added to the orignal post, though they are spoilered, because they reveal the post game team. There are also some youtube videos added to the original post as well.
Major updates include balancing out evolutions, moves, and some abilities, as well as some stat changes, and a level change for one of the gym leaders. And there are item placement changes, and the overhaul of the EV system.

Proof that there are pictures of rematch teams in the spoiler tag (though be warned, this is spoilers):
    Spoiler:

So yes, this is a rather big update to the formerly titled "Beta Ruby 202", into "Magma Ruby 202." And there are some font edits to give the original post changes for the sake of being presentable.

  • I like the update but too bad magcargo's rock type coverage is gonna be underused due to lack of Physical/Special Split but I like it having a 120 Base Sp.Attack stat and also poor him for having a low speed stat he's gonna be really viable in a trickroom team but sadly this a gen 3 hack... I'd rather go with Ninetails instead and also could you add Ninetails to learn some Psychc attack? It's rather annoying for him/her to have only one coverage and one viable coverage its only Flamethrower and Hidden Power(which is completely random).. perhaps Extrasensory since she/he learns extrasensory in the future gens..

You should remove the flags in the ship battles, so we can re-fight the gym leaders again. Maybe make it so that if you beat them on one trip, you can't beat them until you exit, then come back to the ship? And I'm absolutely loving the video I saw in the first post where you can look out the window of the ship! Sweet!
