Battle Tower (Crystal version)

Anyone remember the Battle Tower in Olivine City? How the heck do you beat the people there? I remember before my Crystal version died and erased everything, that alot of my Pokémon were at very high levels and I still could not beat them. I don't even know what the prize was you'd get for winning.
