  • There are a lot of things that annoy me, my sister, my dad, people who let me carry them along when we're doing group work in school, people who say something's stupid without trying it, and the focus of this blog. I just hate it when staff ignore my messages. Not about community questions, when I make an effort to befriend them, or at least start up a chat.

Even when I'm real busy, as soon as I get on PC I first check my VMs, random or not I reply. Sometimes I forget which is understandable. But sometimes it seems the staff just ignore me or other people for no reason. Not all the staff do this but quite a few do, they just don't reply. Sometimes I'll think "Oh it's just an accident, I'll try to start up a convo again, and they won't reply. I've seen times where a member tried to talk to a staff member about 10 different times. No reply on any but about 2. It was pretty sad.

Some of the staff need to get off their high horse and humor us members when we try to start up a conversation. Is it too hard to just reply?

Well that's just what i had to say and I wrote it quickly before school. I know this won't change anything but if any of you staff are reading this (most importantly the H-staff) go make your VMs public, and the next time somebody gives you a VM, go reply. Now on that note...

Don't you ever interrupt me when I'm drinking my racist coffee~

You have a point and all, but in all honesty, people are not inclined to answer VMs, even if it's rude. Unless it's something that has to do with their job as staff members, in which case you can report them for being ignorant, it's up to them, really.

By the way, I also check my notifications prior to all, guilty here.

  • Like Truality said(but to expand upon it a bit), people don't really have to answer their VMs. And why are you accusing the staff of being on a high horse? What if they're just forgetful(as I know most staff are), or have other things on their mind other than just replying to VMs? Maybe a lot of the staff aren't the type to answer to random VMs, or don't quite know what to say. But I wouldn't go all the way and say they're on a high horse because of it.

And the "humor us members" part...I dunno what you're trying to come off as, but I don't think you kinda used the right choice of words here, just saying.

Whatever applies to you when answering VMs also applies to the staff. The whole forgetfulness thing, or dont know what to say sometimes, etc. Remember one thing: staff are members too. Just because they have a colored name doesn't make them any different from you, to be quite honest.

Just my two cents, though. But quick advice....don't be so quick to jump on the staff and point fingers and accuse them of something silly like this(well, to me). I know when I VM a staff member a lot, sometimes they reply, sometimes they don't. It just depends.

    But yeah.

edit: Even if you get "ignored". Just dont worry about it. I dunno, if it were me, I would go your route and try to start up another conversation and see where that goes and hopefully they would reply in that case but...like I said, it just all depends. A lot of staff are very busy also, and with that being said, they just dont have that kind of time on their hands to answer VMs.

Not true! I'm weirder than the general userbase :)

Buuut yeah I don't usually reply to vms that much because I just... never get around to it, lol. I'm lazy in terms of everything, so. :x

  • I think you're gonna get some negative backlash from this blog, dude :/

I remember being frustrated by this too. You see someone cool and want to talk to them, so you drop them a line and they don't reply. I've been mindful from the beginning of my time here at PC to deal with notifications first and reply to all (or most, at least) of my VMs, because I was aware of how annoying it was to feel ignored.

That said, as the previous guys have stated, some people just aren't VMers, or they forget or whatever. The more popular members (which do probably tend to be staff members because staff are most visible) get more VMs than others and replying to them all might get a bit much after a while.

lol this was probably a useless reply, since I can easily see both sides of the coin.

  • I''m not staff and I'm relpying! MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

From what I've seen there's more regular members who are too stuck up to reply to their VM's.
But like everyone else said they don't have to reply to their VM's if they don't want to. The only time it bugs me is if they have like a link in their signature or something that advertises VM's or PM's or IM and then they have them set to contacts only or they just don't reply.

  • We're not inclined to reply, but ever since I was modded, I've tried to reply to every VM because...and well, this blog proves it. But people tend to make more of a big deal about it when it's staff that don't reply. Because we're staff we're "high and mighty" and "don't have time for the little people" and other generic assumptions when it's really not like that at all. We have things to attend to, places we want to post, other VMs/PMs to reply to, etc. just like members have. I personally try to reply to every VM I get, like I said, but I won't reply if I can't think of anything to say to it, am bored with the conversation (yeah, it happens), or, you know, forget.

So I wouldn't be coming down on the staff so hard for this. Regular members forget too. You can't tell me you've replied to every VM you've gotten.

Some of the staff need to get off their high horse and humor us members when we try to start up a conversation. Is it too hard to just reply?

It's not our job to humor you, though. Anyone else can do that. And honestly? It's kinda difficult when you get really stupid VMs from some people. I can understand being nervous talking to staff, but I mean...some VMs just...I can't think of replies for them cause they're just weird.

And on the note of "turn on your VMs" well...come on now. Really? Sometimes we just don't want to talk to anyone. I know that when I get really upset over something, I'll turn off my VMs cause I don't really feel like talking to everyone in the world.

Basically, cool your rolls, bro. It's a forum.

I reply to the same amount of VMs as I did before I was a mod. Sometimes I don't reply because I have nothing to say. Sometimes I don't reply because I meant to reply later and forgot. I doubt staff think "I'm staff now I don't have to reply to VMs", it's each individual person and how they deal with it. So to call out the entire staff like that is like me going up to you and telling you that a lot of non-staff are idiots and you need to stop being such an idiot. It's honestly very rude. If you had directed this to people in general, I might have agreed, but targeting out the staff in particular isn't cool.

As far as leaving VMs on...there are points where you have to meet a staff member halfway. I had this issue myself recently. I wanted to get to know someone, but they had VMs turned off. I'm very, very uncomfortable with PMs. But I sucked it up and PMed him and it was fine because that's just how it is. If you want to get to know someone and they have VMs off, PM them. Don't expect them to change for you because you want to get to know them. I personally don't like it when VMs are off, but that doesn't mean that I'm just going to give up trying to talk to them until they change for me. It's their decision.

If you really want some non-replying staff to get off their "high horses", being rude and accusing them in public isn't the way to go. That just makes people defensive and attack right back at you. I would recommend PMing the people that you're referring to and talking to them about it if it's a big enough problem that you have to start throwing out generic staff accusations.

When I don't reply to VMs it's because I don't have anything to say to response to the VM that I received. and uh... just listen to what the others said because I just woke up and I don't feel like typing anything long that might just be repeating what was already said. ;x

I will add a little note that calling out all the staff about this and accusing them really isn't the way to go, especially because I... don't think I've gotten a VM from you that wasn't of importance, and thus I've replied to each of them. My memory may be wrong, but just... do what Toujours said instead.

  • it's really not that big of a deal, they've got a bold name and can do some stuff other members can't. if i didn't reply to you, ya really wouldn't care.

i swear some people just try befriend staff because then they can say they're biffles with an admin or whatever.

  • Personally, I keep VMs to staff and friends only because I don't want them to get abused (i.e. noobs going "y u close my thred???11111"). That's all.

I'm always open to people PMing me and striking up a conversation though - you and I never would have met except through random PMing, after all.

  • Sorry everyone who I offended. I seriously didn't mean for it to seem like I was mad at the staff or anything. My wording was terrible, some of the things I said made a different point then I meant.

I didn't mean to be like "if all staff don't accept they suck" even though my wording did imply that. It was more like "The staff should try to reply to members more" as a challenge. I know it didn't sound like that at all but that's what I honestly meant. I also didn't mean that all staff did it. Just a lot of staff do it from what I see. I should probably delete this but I guess I'll let it stay so i don't seem like an idiot.

But I just wish staff would talk to members more, it does frustrate me sometimes but I'm not mad at the staff even though I sound like it.

And no I wasn't ignored lately because I don't talk to people like I did before.

Ah yes, the accurate account of scrutiny pointed at a group of 30 or so people from a 13 year old Pokelover.
What's the difference between a staff member not replying and any other member? The only one putting them in a higher regard is you and your assumption that they are just being elitist by not replying. In saying that, I assume that is the case for most of the staff members, I don't know the entire team these days, but I'm sure my point applies to most/all of them.

  • I always try my best to reply to VMs but sometimes when I'm multitasking, I read them and then forget ;_; Usually I end up remembering when looking at my userpage and replying.. I'd say I reply about 98% of the time (could be wrong) :3 I'm not a mod but I try to keep things friendly~

  • Yeah I know not everybody replies. But honestly to me it seems like some staff constantly ignore members for no reason, then if you browse their VMs they're constantly talking to other people when the person they ignored actually had a good conversation starter and wasn't just "hey hiya" But everyone does it I guess so whatever.

  • My VMs are public for a reason. It's for new members who are trying to reach me for any questions or simply need someone to talk to or guide with instead of trying to PM me. I don't mind the noob VMs, really. xD But I rarely get VMs from other members/staff these days...maybe because I either talk to them on the IRC, or maybe I'm just too quiet and I'm inside my own little world too much.

I do have this feeling that I don't reply to VMs as much as I used to when I was just a regular member. I put my modding first, then anything else here on PC. If I have nothing else to do, I'll go ahead and respond, but I'm gonna be like "ehh, I'll respond later. *closes tab*"...then later on I forget. I need to like...stop doing that. >_> But the laziness/IRL stuff just keeps getting into me.

Yeah, I can be quiet and can bite at times and a bit of a dork, but really... I'm right here. I'm open to anything. Anyone is more than welcome to just strike up a conversation with me.

Some people, and not just staff, don't think "hi" is a good conversation starter. It's just too generic and doesn't offer much, and usually leads to nothing anyway. So it'd be a pointless conversation. Not all conversations that start with hi end like that, but they do quite often, and some people just find it a boring way to start a convo.
