aside from the popular meme-of-a-song, I've been thinking what exactly is love?

This thought goes pretty deep and long when I truly examine it. What is it that makes us crave being around a certain person of the opposite sex? To show them we care?

At first I thought maybe it was because "It's a hormone like thing that makes sure our genes get passed on" but then I thought about it, and people still leave eachother when they know one or the other cant reproduce.

A story in my life is almost a year ago I had this girlfriend. She was sorta cool and shy the first few times I met her at this tennis training group, but once I got to know her more deeply, we became friends for about 3 months until I asked her out. Our relationship lasted about 9 months until she had to move.

Now I was a young kid when I first met her. About 14, juvenile in every way, stupid, and all I cared about was Pokemon, tennis and friends. Now you're thinking "Little kids. They dont know anything about love"

Well I dont know about your opinion, but I celebrated our 1 year of knowing eachother by taking a hike, just me and her, alone up to a grassy mountain range not too far from where I lived. I acted like it was just a simple hike for us to talk to eachother, but a few hours before hand I hid a basket of her favorite foods and flowers(whitmans chocolate, a large boquet of roses and some perfume she really wanted from american eagle outfitters). So I pretty much guided her to it and it was all mushy mush stuff, but there's another half to this story. I actually trudged a weed-whacker and lawn mower to the top of the hill earlier to mow out a small patch of grass and placed a blanket and some sitting pillows on it. It was a perfect day too. Sun was shining and there were fast paced puffy clouds in the sky.

Now I'm totally going unmodest here, but I think thats pretty good for a 15 year old to come up with. Most guys I know invite their girlfriends to their house and just want to play halo and stuff lol

So yeah, enough rambling. whats your thoughts on love?

Love is the combination of several different feelings about another person you deem very close to you in terms of relationship. At least, that's what I go by. Your lover will get you angry sometimes, they'll make you happy, they'll make you sad. Love, to me, is a really strong bond between two people. Love has nothing to do with sex or sexuality. It is simply a strong bond. Sex, between a loving couple, is a display of very high affection of the two partners. Also, Love isn't limited to an opposite sex relationship. It can be between people of the same gender as well. Although most consider it between a man and a woman, Love is boundless.

This is teh best explanation of love I have ever found. thank you. XD
Alot of people say that love is just an illusion....that there are chemicals in your body that react and such to create an illusion of love....but what is life if you believe that? Boring! XD

Note: Most of teh people that support this chemical theory are nerds sitting in their basement with no social skills typing their disgust on teh world on teh internett....XD [/unconfirmed]

Wow, I'd want you for a boyfriend :p That sounds wonderful, she must have been happy.

    Very good! Only,

I put a difference into "loving someone" and "be in love with someone" and "have a crush on someone"

I love my family and many friends in the sense that I would do anything to protect them from harm and anything to make them happy. When they are happy, I am happy and when they are sad, I get sad. I can't live without the people I love. This kind of love I've also felt for my boyfriends after a while. But it takes time to plant the roots for real love.

Being in love is more of a passing thing, or a thing that can grow into a steady relationship or friendship. The only difference between that and having a crush on someone is that for the latter, I can simply spot a good looking person and have feelings bubbling up inside just because I THINK they are someone but I really don't know them well enough to know if they really are that kind of person. But I can fall in love with friends I've known for a while, when things happen that make me see them in a new perspective. That kind of being in love with someone can often lead to a stronger friendship or another relationship, as I see it.

    /rant XD

Also, of course you can fall in love with people on PC. Interactions create feelings, and you don't need a face or a body to feel things. Only actions and reactions. Whether it's "real love" or not, it's up to you.

In my opinion it's just a simple chemical release in the brain caused by different things in males & females. In females it is produced to keep their partner around to help raise offspring, in males it is made to make them want to create offspring, even if they are not aware of it. I'm pretty sure I heard doing certain things has been proven to induce "love" such as showing a woman a feat of strength, coupled with sex is supposed to release these chemicals in her brain.

EDIT: Wow that made sound really cold hearted, but I'm not really I swear :3

    Love effects people differently.

For me, it is when you can't stop thinking about that one girl. The first and last thought of the day is about her, wanting to do do everything and anything to make them happy.

    Short, simple but true =]

Whenever you're willing to do something selfless for another person you're acting out of love. Love, whether eternal or fleeting, intense or barely noticed, is putting someone ahead of yourself. Crushes, commitment, passion - none of these things necessarily include love, though they're better when they do.

Haha, well done young gent! I do think that is pretty good. I once took my gf down to a local river here. I gave her her favorite pizza, and a gigantic bong stuffed with peanut butter M@M's adorned with matching flowers. We were fishin', eatin', chillin', and attemptimg to romance. I swear there is a peeping Bigfoot down at that river.

But back to the topic at hand. I think love is more than a swarm of hormones and neurochemicals. Plus there are many diffrent types of love. But I don't even know. Sorry, I can't answer properly:C

Love is an emotion, under no conditions limited to one person or gender, that represents when friendship rises above your standards. Most commonly includes family, mates, and in some cases your top tier of friends.

    Baby don't hurt me.
    No more.

NO you killed it we had a thing going

Well I'm sure I hardly know anything definite, but in my estimation love in the classic sense is losing the sense of yourself in relation to others - not necessarily your senses, as in the situation of lust or infatuation or even a long term romantic commitment, but honestly forgetting who you are as an individual, and how to be conscious of your own soul/mind/whatever-you'd-call-it as separate from another being. maybe. I'm not entirely sure being selfless is possible, so that may or may not mean that true unconditional love is impossible

I also think it's funny that the majority of people automatically formulate their to answer this question in the context of romantic love only. Way to leave your family/friends/other platonic relationships high and dry, guys!

Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day. It makes you smile, even when you're tired or upset.

When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different, because you know that your name is safe in their mouth.

    In a technical sense:

    Spoiler:

In all seriousness though, like some people say, love doesn't have to be in a relationship sense. You can love your family, friends, your co-workers, pets, just about anyone. Pretty much you'll do anything to help them, protect them, and care for them.

If going on relationship though, then love is more like an expanded development between the two people. Besides those common actions I mentioned before, the people in the relationship are willing to show each other affection, whether it be a kiss, a very long hug, sex, a fancy dinner, etc.

I love you all, PC! <3

Love can't be described well because everyone experiences it differently (if at all). Romance, which is what you described more or less, is something that may (or may not) indicate love. I, too, am a romantic, and have been in a romantic relationship in the past. Was it love? Maybe of a sort, but it may be vastly different than a kind of love I experience some point down the line.

For now, I don't care much about love; it's too vague, and I'm sure I'll figure it out in time. On the other hand, romance is wonderful and you won't get a bunch of pompous jerks telling you that you weren't really experiencing romance (like you will if you claim to have been in love).

    tl;dr: dunno lolz
