Were talking about a guy who can't even remember his own grandsons name

^When I first played, this really confused me. Oak, how do I know your grandson's name if I have never met him and barely know you?

On topic- I guess, I must have assumed time had passed or I most likely just ignored this little detail...

That is so true. Asking a guy who can't tell if you're a girl or a boy if he knows something like that. Poor guy...

Maybe a better question should be about the final fantasy.

    And the final, final fantasy.

And the final, final, final fantasy.

    And the final, final, FINAL...

I remember the first time I saw Prof. Oak in Gold Version, the very first thing that came to mind was "What are the odds ?"

    Haha, that is awesome.

I always figured that between the time from the original games and Gold/Silver, there wasn't any easy access between these regions, so professors in each regions said that only the natural inhabitants of that region were the number of Pokemon there were. Once the S.S. Aqua and the Magnet Train came into existance and connected Johto and Kanto, it was decided that they should combine all of the Pokemon into one big group of 251. However, this doesn't explain why we didn't know about the Pokemon in Generations III-V (although I guess anyone that can't remember their own grandson's name is getting pretty senile, and probably shouldn't even be in a position to be a Pokemon professor :P)

I don't get how a guy who has a friend (Mr. Pokemon) who lives in a totally different region (Jhoto) with totally different Pokemon, and Oak only counted up to 151 Pokemon. He NEVER noticed any Jhoto Pokemon? Wow, just wow.

It's not his fault... he always has a stack of Max Repel handy. After all, he IS tremendously busy.

Maybe he knew of the other Pokemon, but didn't tell Red because it would be too much for him, and he didn't want to hurt his mind. :3

In the game plotline, Professor Oak had not yet been to Johto when he said there were 151 Pokémon. Especially since, when the game designers made him say that, Generation II didn't even exist yet. Jeez.

I don't think the creators had any idea how much the Pokemon Franchise would take off so I don't think they were ever planning sequels. But what would I know right?

Another way I try to look at it like is this: Time has passed since r/b/y and since that adventure the professor had stumbled upon the other region. Then again, this is just my opinion.

They planned the 2nd Generation from the beginning if I recall: it's the later generations that were a bit of a surprise.

That seems like the opinion that makes the most sense... note I said "most." As far as I see, there's no theory that makes 100% sense, so maybe I'll just pick the old and crazy idea :P
