if i wanted someone to only appear when you stand on a green s, would i set their movement to hidden on advance map, use the showsprite command, set a flag and clear it afterwards, then set it again when i use hidesprite? because that's what i thought but it didn't work.
also, what tools do i use for asm? i tried in the toolbox but there was nothing.

Well, the flag would need to be set so that they are invisible in the first place. If I'm understanding this right, I would have the one green script tile clear the flag that makes him visible, have the event occur, and then surround the script with other S tiles. Then, on each one, have them set the flag so he disappears again.

At least, that's what I think.

As far as ASM, you should look at HackMew's knowledge. From the top of my head I know you'll need a hex editor (Hex Workshop) and a compiler (mid2agb I thought was one but there are others).

    ^thanks^

does anyone know where i can get an emerald rombase with sinnoh outdoor and indoor tiles? i really suck at inserting them.
and also, is there a tutorial on repointing sprites to the 25 ??s?
1 more thing, i inserted some sprites with unl-z, and they were fine. i then inserted some sprites with advance sprite editor, and all pokemon's evolutions messed up i.e. the game froze when they evolved, and i've tried this on numerous roms. how do i fix it?

    need this too

It depends upon what the patch has. If it has nothing, nothing will happen. But if you patch a patch that has modifications onto the rom on which you have already patched a rom base, it will mess up the rom. Also, I don't understand your question very clearly.

I believe the patch uses data from the new file and the old to replace things. This means, if the hack was made with default FR tiles as a patch of a clean FR ROM it won't store data to change any of the offsets involving graphics, meaning it won't change the tiles at all, even on your patched ROM. I'm not 100% sure though, so back up your ROM first.

Is it possible that you have two applications running with your ROM open? If you change the textbox in Tile Molester but then save in AdvanceMap or another program without reopening your ROM, the changes that you made in Tile Molester will be overwritten.

Ok, I saved my game in Tile Molester after I changed my Textbox (ctrl +S), then I exited out completely. When I re-opened Tile Molester, I got the error message "Error Parsing XML: Premature End of File" and I don't know what im doing wrong here.

DevkitPro is better. Goldroad is easier to compile, but is written differently, so codes from lets say hackmew won't compile correctly.(but codes from Juan will, because he uses goldroad too)

Yeah, whenever I try to open a ROM that I previously edited with Tile Molester, I get an error message. What I do is navigate to the "Resources" folder in the Tile Molester directory and delete the files there. There should be one there that has the same name as the ROM that you're trying to edit. Upon deleting that file, you should be able to open up the ROM again without any error messages.

Well I searched and found nothing on my problem [then again I could just have bad keyword searching skills] so if this has been asked before, I apologise.
So I just started hacking recently to learn some things, have some fun, etc. Today I replaced the hero's sprite. It was indexed, the background colour was first in the palette, and then I wrote it to the ROM (this is all in unLZ GBA) but then it says the compressed size was too big and blah. So I found a suitable offset and then wrote the sprite there [all boxes were ticked] But when I tested it out in my ROM, the colours were all messed up. Now I can't find the sprite (because it was repointed) and I dunno how to fix it. heelp? D:

I know this is off topic, but can't we have an answered questions thread? Stuff asked here has probably been repeated many many times. I know it could take a long long time to sift through 569 pages, but it could be worthwhile.

    1. Aljam, i was just thinkin the same thing.
    2. I have a bit of a map prob.... I have followed the tut's on inserting a world map, and well, it always screws up. I have a map, which fits the larger size guideline, and it is saved in two forms: 1.grayscale, like the tileset the tut says to save, and 2. in color according to the pallet already in the game. I insert said maps at offsets 08000000 and 08000100 respectively, open WRAP RE(i think its called) and change the offsets to match (in verted like neccessary [ie 00010008]) but the map always gets messed up in both the game and A-map. I either need clarification..... or someone's gonna hav 2 do it 4 me b/c i tried like 20 times.... and i just suck at this sorta thing. I only started hacking a little over a week or two ago X(

They can use the search function. Why do we need an answered questions thread, when questions have answers here?

why, because sometimes, searches fail, and things would be much more organized so unanswered questions are easier to find and answer. thats why we post XP

If you're searching the right terms and the answer is there, then you'll get your answer. If you're searching the right terms and there is no answer, then you ask the question. Simple as that. :>

I fail to see how it would be organized. Wouldn't it just be the same thing as the Simple Questions thread, with unanswered questions removed? :/

Well, if you patch a rom with custom tiles with a patch that changes the sprites, no, it won't mess up the tiles.

Just wondering why everyone hacks FR and not LG?
Is there a reason or just because everyone favors it?

It's the "first" game in the titles, nobody, not even Nintendo lists it as Leaf Green and Fire Red... it's Fire Red, Leaf Green, thus people see Fire Red first... it catches their attention... just like Ruby and Sapphire...
