  • I've thought up the team's leader. I wanted someone with more physical powers as I want him to be there with the team and leading, now running off throwing lightning or walking through walls. I think I might give him a weapon of some sort. Wooden of course, I would hate to write a teenage boy training with a steel sword.

    Name: Richard Tilman.
    Alias: Paladin
    Birthday: January 1st
Powers: Healing factor, enhanced strength and kinetic absorption which results in further enhanced strength.

Any of you ever want to write a fanfic, but feel that if you force it, it'll be crappy? I'm feeling that way right now... I think what I need is inspiration.

Hence the reason I haven't written anything for a while. (that and lack of time, but that's another topic.)

I do find that I "want to write" when I am in a good mode. So If I want to write, but can't get into the mood, I will watch one of my favorite movies, listen to some upbeat songs, Consume large amounts of alcohol the list goes on and on.

Point is, try to get into a really good mood. It will really help you out.

There's nothing wrong with forcing yourself to write. It's what I do all the time, since I don't have the patience to wait for inspiration. The first ten minutes of my forced writing tends to be blocky and awkward, but as time goes on, I get into The Mood and only stop when I get tired (which is around an hour later). After I finish a chapter, I go back and smooth over all my awkward moments and change the crappy parts to less-crappy parts.

If you want inspiration, think about what's coming next in your fanfic, imagine it like you're really there, and make yourself hyped. It gets you in a good mood.

I've had that a lot, actually; it happens when I play out a favorite scene so much in my head that I feel like any attempt I do to put it in words will inevitably fail (it's times like these when I wish I could animate). Either don't force it but just write, lay off the idea for a few days, or plot more. Eventually you'll build up your self-esteem and excitement enough that you just can't not write it... or I do, anyhow.

My advice to you is to just write and then revise it.

No, seriously. If you don't write, you're stalling yourself. If you do write, you'll be able to get the ball rolling. Later on though you go revise and make it better by deleting unnecessary description, put more emotional depth to it, etc. Dagzar is a great example of this. She mentions how the first few minutes of writing is a bit awkward at first, but then after a bit she gets in the mood and after finishing the chapter she goes back to revise it.

So yeah, just write and then go back later to make it better. I do that all the time with NE. Heck, I finished posting the story, but I'm still revising parts of it that I feel needs fixing. XD

And guys, what happen to the Project Max Revive thread? And it was going so good before I left PC for a few days due to my sickness. ;_; Yes, Bay was sick the past few days. >.>

Stalling until I finish this godforsaken paper I'm stuck on, but other than that, yeah.

You guys can still talk without my input. You know that, right? Might actually help refine the ideas that I try to whip people into doing. *nods*

  • Ok. I got inspiration the other day. I was playing my 2nd favorite game (1st obviously being Pokemon) which is called Nevermore. Nevermore is a platformish flash game which takes place in a surreal yet familiar world. You play as Olek, a young monster (who looks very human mind you) who is in search of treasure for his poor town. I was playing this game and had an idea. I would write a chaptered fiction on the game. I went over to Adam Westerman's (The creator of the game) DeviantArt page and he said he would very much like me to write a fanfic. So far I'm at Chapter 8 and I posted Chapter 1 on this website.

But now I have another problem.

As you guys might have heard before I have a problem with titling. I think my titles are good, but they don't seem to be attracting any attention. I knew nobody would click on something called "Nevermore", because they might think it had to do with "The Raven" which everybody has heard before. So I called it "Nevermore the journey". I've been waiting forever now and still nobody. So here's my question to all of you...

How do you get more visitors and posts on your Fanfictions?

This is a common problem for me. My last Fanfic "The Bellkeeper of Tin Tower" was commented once by a person who I couldn't understand. I just don't understand what is wrong with my fanfics. If any of you could help me with Titling or give some advice, it would be grandly appreciated.

Thank you all, and with all regards,

    -ChrisTom

Understand that there are periodically some deficits when it comes to reviewing? There was a rise in the amount of people reviewing for a while there, but things change. People get busy with school, work, and other real life things Save it for your blog, Astinus that the prospect of sitting down and reviewing a story seems to be too much.

idk. Just have a catchy title (since that's the first thing that people say they see on forums), keep posting fanfics/chapters, be active in the community, and pray to the reviewing gods.

Also, depending on what fandom you're writing for also lets you know how many reviews you could look for. On a Pokemon forum, if you post a Pokemon fic, you can think that that'll get reviews because everyone knows it. But posting a fic for another fandom on a board for one fandom is a gamble. Depending on what the fandom is (really well-known like Digimon or Naruto, or not really known like my secret fandom or Nevermore), you could find someone who will read the fic or you could find that no one knows what you're writing about.

I will say, though, that having your entire chapter be one giant paragraph when it should be many does deter readers from reading. I know that you know the rules of paragraphing (your previous fics show that), so what's up with this one?

I don't double post so I can't technically be "Active" on that thread until somebody else comments. As for the writing in parargraphs, the reason I did that was because I wanted it to be in a kin of "Book Form" if you get what I'm saying. But I'll go ahead and do it anyways...

Thank you for your advice though Astinus.

The community =/= the FFL. The FFL is only part of the community, so she means branch out and comment on as much as possible. It looks like you review now and then, but maybe try to step up in reviewing if you can. Additionally, there's a lot more threads in Writer's Lounge than just the FFL. Comment on those. In other words, the more you spread your name around, the more people see it and want to read what you write.

Edit: Also, if by "that thread" you mean your story thread, it's also perfectly fine for you to double post if you're posting a new chapter. Write and post, even if you don't get feedback. The more you keep your story on the first page by keeping in active, the more likely people will see it and want to comment on it.

  • But it's AGAINST THE RULES TO DOUBLE POST!!! Do you want me to be kicked off the forums!?

    *clears throat*

If I may recite Article 1, Rule 3 of the Pokecommunity Forums:

Double posting or consecutive posting is forbidden.
While the fan fiction areas have exceptions, no one is allowed to make more than one consecutive post. Edit posts if you need to add more to them. If you need to include more than five attachments, you may create as many posts as needed to do so.

I do like your idea on reviewing other threads though. I'll try to do that, but I'd hate it if my thread dies with no posts.

Also has anybody else read some of RainbowMunchies work? She is the only Fanfic writer who has made me cry... I can entirely relate to the Pikachu in Metronome. RainbowMunchies is an excellent author.

Why do people keep assuming I haven't read the rules? Kids, just because I took a six-month hiatus doesn't mean I haven't gotten acquainted with how the community works in the 3+ years I've actually been active around here. =|

That rule does not apply if you are posting a new chapter to your own fanfic. The bumping rule also doesn't apply. So long as it's your own fanfic thread, you can post a new chapter to it whenever you want, even if the last post was yours and/or the last post was over a month ago.

    *Sneaks back out*

Oh fine Jax sprint in before me. Be that way. Also it may just be that the people who arrived during your absence don't know who you are and how long you've been here. :S

Well, my sig does say I'm a ninja.

Also it may just be that the people who arrived during your absence don't know who you are and how long you've been here. :S

    Point.

    In which case...

Hi, kids. My name is Jax. I've been here for longer than most of the vets in the FFL (to the point where I can remember when Mizan was a n00b), and I've watched the FFL for the past couple months, despite being on a hiatus. I've also been reviewing the exact same way for the past few years, and I've submitted stories, guides, games, and general advice to the writing forums for the same amount of time. Lastly, I'm known for my bitter and argumentative disposition when on PC, especially when it comes to the FFL, and it's gotten to the point where the vets could probably tell you I'm not exactly a ball of sunshine and daisies on the FFL.

Long story short, I've considered myself a part of this community for awhile, so, in the future to all the kids who joined after I decided to take a break, please read over the rules you're about to show me before quoting them in response to something I said. Chances are, I really do know what I'm talking about. =|

On topic, I haven't read Rainbow's work, but although Pokémon x human isn't my thing, I might drop by.

Not at all. I'll assume that when you say "book form", you mean as an actual book...but books have proper paragraphing...and your story is smooshed...

You know what? I had a drama-filled day at work. I'm going to bed.

As for the rules, I even pointed out that that rule isn't followed in fanfiction threads in this section's rules...

Okay. I just give up. No one reads the rules.

Hey Jax, just to clear the nasty rumors about my favorite shipping:

POKEMON X HUMAN SHIPPINGS/PAIRINGS DO NOT IMPLY BESTIALITY. EVER*.

Besides, if any two people in the anime have a relationship, it's Pikachu and Ash.

Anyways this thread is for fanfics! Sorry!

Alright, I'll go ahead and post a few more chapters. Thank you all for clearing that up for me! :D

  • Hey Jax, just to clear the nasty rumors about my favorite shipping:

POKEMON X HUMAN SHIPPINGS/PAIRINGS DO NOT IMPLY BESTIALITY. EVER*.

Did I ever actually say that I cared whether or not there was sex involved? No. No, I didn't. I simply said Pokémon x human wasn't my thing. I am not into the concept of a romantic relationship between Pokémon and people at all. This is because I consider it squicky on a general level because I consider it unnatural, no matter how far the romance goes. Friendship between humans and what are essentially animals are perfectly fine in my book. However, no, I don't normally want to read a fanfiction about a kid dating his pet rat. If it's currently a taboo in real life, it's still a taboo in my book, no matter which way you cut it. I have my personal reasons for objecting, namely the idea that because a Pokémon, as intelligent as it is, can't clearly communicate consent (for any type of relationship besides friendship) on the same level as a human can (because most of them can't be understood by humans), it's mostly, in my opinion, a forced one-sided relationship.

If, however, you meant that Pokémon x human relationships don't ever imply inter-species relationships, I want you to take a good look at the term "Pokémon x human" closely. Note the fact that the phrase does not say "human x human." If a fic has a Pokémon transform into a human, stay as a human, and eventually consider themselves as being human, then maybe I might not be as squicked by it. Maybe in this case because I'd ultimately see it as a human x human relationship. However, it'd still be pretty unlikely because of the beginning of the fic.

In other words, I don't care for zoophilia in general (which can simply be defined as the general sexual attraction to animals instead of humans), not just bestiality. And yes, Pokémon x human would be considered as such because Pokémon are considered animals in that world.

Or you can think of it this way: some people don't like shounen and shoujo ai. These are fanfics that are about homosexuality but actually don't (by definition, even) include sex. That floats my boat, but human x animal relationships normally don't. For other people, they might like the idea of Pokémon x human but have a difficult time accepting shounen and shoujo ai. It's all personal preference. (Yes, I know I stated that I think it's rather silly to compare these two concepts, but some of the reasons for being squicked are generally the same. It just doesn't float my boat, sex or no sex.)

Also, I would appreciate it if you stopped capslocking at me as if I'm unaware of these things. =| I've also been around the fandom and the internet for years, so I probably can figure things out just fine. Not to mention that considering the fact that the fic has been able to stay on this site for awhile, I can safely assume that there's no sex involved.

As a side note, you do realize there's a way to quote me like I just quoted you at the beginning of this post, right?

  • ChrisTom, something you could do to immediately increase exposure to your fics would be to link to them in your sig, like I do down there VVV. A banner might help too.

I think he means pressing the Enter key once instead of twice, letting indents decree when a new paragraph is. This doesn't work on forums for two reasons:

    • The screen is wider than the average book page; in a book you can easily see when a new paragraph is by the indent, but on the forums the screen is so wide you don't even notice.
    • The forums can't indent.
Also, I would like to get into the discussion at hand, but shipping in general is really not interesting to me. Sorry to seem like a "bold question" poster. |D
