The queen looked out upon the group of solders before her. All had been watched for a while, and studied. When they were deemed strong enough, she told them all to meet her here. They stood in the great hall, the Queen on the throne, and her loyal subjects before her. She looked sadly at the empty, larger, throne next to her where her recently deceased husband once sat. "Thank you all for coming."

"You have all been chosen for this misson. Out of the entire kingdom we chose you. You may stand here for different reasons, but we all gather here for one thing: the glory and salvation of Arleon. With the King murdered, I am now pushed into the throne. As one of my first official acts, I say we launch a counter attack against the Witherians. They cannot allow to get through this unpunished. We have tried to reason with them on multiple occasions but they will not hear."

"You are part of a specil squad that I will oversee myself. First, I strongly suggest that we look into the Witherians with crystals. Right now we only give them to our elite forces, but that may need to be changed if the Witherians have a supply to. The cave to our crystal deposit is right outside the town of Grenold. Start at the church, and walk to the well on the outskirts of the town. Continue past it, and keep walking until you find a small cave. There will be wild pokemon, very possible hostile."

"Adric will lead the squad. We have an armory outside the hall, on the edge of the castle grounds. It has all sorts of weapons, and armor. Take anything you want. If you haven't received a pokemon and crystal, there is a door at the far end of the armory, my scholars are in there. They will help you with anything relating to that. Any questions?"

The queen surveyed her warriors, satisfied by her choices. They would have to go through much, but would come out stronger. The truth was that Arleon was slowly falling to the barbaric tribes on her boarders. Ever since they were united under their new king, their attacks have been relentless, and destructive. This squad would carry all the kingdom's hope, dreams, fears, and lives as a last ditch effort to save the slowly dying kingdom that is Arleon.

The Witherian king surveyed the map. The war room was small. A table sat in the middle, circular with a map of the Witherian lands, and the parts of Arleon that was known to them. The chair that the king sat in was taller than the others, and had a Mightyena's pelt hanging over the back. The map was circled by five other chairs where the war generals would sit for meetings. Today, though, they served a different purpose. Today they were to hold a special squad to combat the Arleons. The king impatiently looked at Leon who stood to his right.

"They'll be here. What happened to the old you, so trusting, and a on the spot planer. Now you're fidgeting in a chair of a war room." Leon joked with the king often. Most people saw him as a great leader, but he saw him more of a father figure, but acted like he was his best friend. The king needed a friend. Between the war, and gathering the tribes, he hadn't had any time to talk to anyone really. He used to give spurring speeches to his warriors, now he talks to his generals. He hadn't even started to look for a wife. Leon was the only thing that he had in the world that understood him.

"They better be here soon, Lucian. I approved them on your recommendation. It would only look bad on you if they were all late." The king had lost most of his "immaturity" when he had become king. He now was cold, and calculated, often thinking outside of the normal realms of reason. Leon could tell that he had a plan. He always got giddy and exited when he thought that he had formed a great plan, and was eager to share it with others. Leon laughed in his head, seeing the king open his arms after explaining his new plan, then sitting back. There was a rustle outside, and Leon quickly straightened up for the new visitors. The king also made an effort, and sat up in his chair straighter just before the others entered.

Shen walked up to the front gate if the castle, it was time. "The Queen summoned me." Were his only words to the guards, one of them gulped and opened the gate and he walked through. Shen walked through the beautiful garden then stopped for a moment at the block of ice and kneeled to pay his respects. "You were the closest thing I had to a father, my lord I will avenge you." Having prayed for the King, Shen continued on, as he walked through the castle's halls he saw how even his fellow soldiers flinched as he walked by, the White Knight, it was sensible that having a nameless ally with no public knowledge would put some disquiet in their minds, but that was none of his concern, he had been summoned by the Queen for something, and considering he was not technically a citizen or soldier of Arleon, it must be important. Shen walked into the audience room and kneeled in front of the queen without bothering to see if anybody else was in the room or not. "Your majesty, I came as soon as I recieved your summons, what is it you require of me?"

Marc and Houndoom were training in a forest at midday when a person wearing a red robe and riding a Ponyta came to Marc and whispered looking around nervously,"The Queen has summoned you. Take this letter and show it to the guards at the door to be allowed in."

Marc took the letter, sent the messenger on his way and headed to the Queen's palace. Once he got there, he showed the guards his letter and he was allowed in. He walked past hundreds of rooms and corridors, getting lost quite often. Houndoom found him getting lost hilarious.

Eventually he found the right room, called the audience room, and knelt before the Queen saying,"My name is Marc von Bonhof. I believe you summoned me and Houndoom to you."

Jen's bare feet pounded upon the sun-hardened earth as she ran to the War Room. Her breath was quick and haggard as she tired, but pushed on, taking advantage of her hard training and stamina.

"Spoi!" her Pokémon chirped as he bounced almost mockingly beside her, picking up speed and forcing her to catch up to him. She stifled a giggle and lengthened her stride so she was almost bouncing in canon with the grey pig. Soon, however, she had to stop; her feet ached and her shoulders were burning from the heat. She knew better than to wear all black in the current heat, but she had changed before leaving, as she hadn't fancied changing in front of the King and Lieutenant.

In time, they crossed a small stream, where Jen filled her water bottle and ran wet hands through her thick hair to cool her scalp. Spoink bounced in the shallows, splashing her face, and she laughed again, splashing back with one hands.

"Spoink! Spoink!" the creature replied, and Jen picked up the meaning behind the words, even if she didn't understand them fully - they should keep moving if they were to reach the War Room in time. She nodded and peered at the horizon, checking her compass, before setting off once more; at this pace, she would be there in minutes.

~~~~~~~~~~~
By the time Jen reached the room, her wet hair had dried and even Spoink had slowed to a steady pace, hopping with drooped ears as it murmured weakly. She bent with her hands on her knees as she struggled to catch her breath, and when she was sure she felt calm enough, she entered the room.
Marc walked out of the Audience Room. He was thorougly bored by the whole experience and spent half the meeting daydreaming. He heard something about getting crystals from an armoury and weapons from a cave, although he did think it odd that weapons weren't in an armoury. Marc decided the armoury was closest so he's get the crystal so he could bond with Houndoom first. He went into the armoury and walked around looking for the crystals. He found someone who looked scholarly and asked,"You don't know where the crystals are, do you?"
The scholar replied," Yes, you're part of the Queen's elite squad and the crystals are in a cave though Adric will lead you there. You need to get your weapons from here first."
At last Marc realised his mistake, and what the scholarly person said was confirmed by someone Marc vaguely recognised from the meeting picking up weapons. After making a mental note to pay attention in future meetings, Marc picked a large, sharp (amazingly) sword that looked nice and deadly. He then also picked a round, red shield with a lion crest on it and because he liked the red he picked it. Anyway, Marc reasoned, Houndoom was going to do most of the fighting. Time to get a crystal now, Marc thought
The armory was larger than what it looked li9ke from the outside. It had tables lining the boundaries, and down the center. The three rows of tables were lined with weapons. The left column had swords of all shapes and sizes. Some were curved, others serrated, all deadly. The second row had shields, also of many shapes and metals. The second row of tables was cut short, and had suits of armor on manikins for the rest of the row, also very varied. The last row contained bows, and crossbows, arrows, and bolts. Halfway through, the ranged weapons stopped, and the exotic weapons started. Razor sharp throwing disks, or scythes, most you couldn't even decide what you should do with it. A small door sat on the end, about a foot from the left row, and a scholar stood outside of the door.
Shen had hoped that something more would have happened during the meeting, they didn't have a lot of information to work with, but he supposed that this "Adric Griffin" who was leading them had probably been briefed much more thoroughly than the rest of them had, so he figured he would just wait for the team to set out, so he stood outside of the castle with Scizor, thinking of times past and to come.
Jen entered the War Room, Spoink hopping lightly at her side. When first she had met him, she had wondered about his constant bouncing; quick research taught her that if he were to stop, his very heart would cease to beat and he would fall dead in a flash. He ever bounced when asleep, she had learned one tired night whilst trying to drop off herself.
The room was taken up largely by the table around which stood tall, majestic chairs, and the tallest, most magnificent of them all, covered with the pelt of a Mightyena, was the one occupied by the King.
"Sire, I am yours to command," Jen said, dropping to one knee. She wasn't completely sure what she was doing, as she had never been in audience with the ruler of Wither before, but she had seen such a thing being done before and it was her only idea of what to do. She also turned and bowed lightly to the Lieutenant before taking a seat, leaving a vacant chair between them. Spoink launched itself onto the table top, still panting slightly, and she poured water from her bottle into her palm, allowing the tiny Pokémon to drink deeply.
[[OOC: I am a bad knight. I didn't know bout the summons. Hope that's okay-- I kinda accidentally met Lise...]]
The castle wasn't far from her aunt's house, so Talulah wasn't exactly dreading the walk; at least, not until she got out into the sun. The creature at her legs walked along complacently, seeming to be happy to simply be walking by her. Talulah's hands came up to cup her face and she grinned wide-- it was so cute!
"How did I get lucky enough to have you start following me?" she said, mostly to herself, and indeed the pokemon really took no notice of her. It simply walked forward, occasionally bumping its flipper against her leg.
"Lily said I should call you Lise," she said, looking down now and obviously speaking to the prinplup. "Do you like that name?"
This time it responded with a shrug, but she could see its eyes glint happily. Talulah grinned a second time. Lise it was then!
They were following a stream, but they'd have to cross it to get to the castle. If it had been another day, Talulah would have simply waited until they'd gotten to the bridge farther down, but it was hot and she wasn't in the mood to go too far out of their way.
"Would you like to ride on my shoulder?" she asked the bird.
But Lise waddled forward, looked into the water, and in one slick motion slid in head-first. Talulah was a bit surprised—birds typically flew, not swam! This was something new to her.
Lise drifted about under the water for a moment before popping up in front of Talulah, seeming to beckon her to hop in. Talulah shrugged, putting one foot in, then another, before wading in completely. The water only came up to a little below her knees, but it felt extremely good nonetheless.
Lise chirped happily, diving back under and wiggling around for a moment before coming back over and splashing at Talulah with a flipper. Talulah laughed, splashing back at him, but he was back underwater now, circling around behind her to launch another attack.
"Arleon scum!" she yelled giddily, wiping the water from her eyes. "Come out where I can see you! Fight like the poochyena you are!"
Lise laughed—a chirping noise that tribbled along before ending in a high pitched squeak. She then dived back under and kicked at the dirt below her to create a sort of visibility shield.
"Clever clever," Talulah said mockingly, moving forward. "But you can't hide forever."
Talulah lurched forward, grabbing at the muddy water, but there was nothing there. She heard a splash, and whipped around to see Lise standing on the shore, shaking his body vigorously.
Lise laughed loudly, before shuffling over to join Lise. She stepped out, shaking her arms and legs as dry as she could. Lise shuffled forward and put a flipper on Talulah's leg, looking up at her solemnly.
"Alright, alright," Talulah said with a smile. "Truce."
"Prin!" Lise chirped happily.
"I sure hope you'll stay with me after we get this all figured out," Talulah said, not quite sure where the thought had come from. "You're fun for a pokemon."
Lise turned her head in question, but Talulah didn't know what else to say. She turned towards the castle, and began walking. Lise followed willingly.
The castle was in view now, dwarfing the trees around it with a regal elegance. They walked forward a while longer before entering the doors. Talulah knew the location of the War Room, and so they walked without an escort towards the area. Lise's feet slapped against the flooring, echoing off the walls and back to the duo as the walked.
The doors were opened when she arrived, and Talulah peeked in to find the King standing and waiting for someone. She hadn't been planning for this!
But when she rounded the corner, she saw Leon—just the person she needed to talk to!
"H-hello," she said weakly, her voice diminished by simply the presence of the King. She came into the room a few feet, and bowed deeply. Still on one knee, she spoke directly to the King.
"Your Majesty, I was seeking Leon to ask him for help on an issue, but I can come back at another time if I am disturbing you."
Behind her, Lise waddled in and stood next to her, leaning down to look at Talulah's face curiously.
Leon nodded to Jen's bow. The King simply sat there. Leon had half a mind to hit him lightly upside the head for being rude, but thought better of it since someone was now here with them. When Jen took a seat, and watered her Spoink, another girl walked in. She too bowed, but also wanted to talk to Leon. He was taken aback by this. "You can talk after the meeting. I imagine that you will all spend quite a bit of time together during this mission."
Leon leaned forward. "Sir, this is all of the squad."
"What? Two people? I had a bit more faith in you Lucian." The king was still cracking jokes. Leon shook his head. He really ought to learn when to be serious. "All right, well let's get started then. First off this is Lu-… I mean Leon." The king had felt Leon's glare, and quickly remembered, but continued acting as if he hadn't noticed. "He is the one who selected you two for this mission."
"Sir, I kind of have been keeping them in the dark…"
The king turned and looked at Leon. "Figures. You hardly talk to anyone. Well, you will be the Witherian spearhead of tactical forces. Your missions will be strange sometimes, and simple in others, but listen when I tell you, they are all serious, and dangerous."
______________
The king was finished after explaining his plan in great detail, and he sat back, relaxing in his chair. "There will be things that may need to be changed latter on, but that's our basic plan."
"Changed? My plan is near flawless, whatever are you talking about? When have I ever steered us wrong?" The king was slightly offended, but saw a good opportunity to joke around with Leon some more before he left.
"Anyways, we will head out at night. Today you should spend getting equipment, and resting. Oh, and before I forget…" Leon placed two crystal shards in front of his guests. "These may prove useful too. The armory is on the other side of the hall. Meet at the ridge outside at dusk. You are free to use anything that you find in the castle, including the rooms that have been provided for you. They are to your immediate left when you leave this room. There is one for each of you."
The hallway was a rocky grey in color. Across from the war room was the armory. Down the hall to the left was the barracks and quest quarters where rooms for the squad where prepared. Blood red Witherian banners decorated the walls along the hall. Every few feet was a pair of sword, or some armor, or other war trinkets from the past.
The armory was organized chaos. Shelves lined the walls, and stood right in front of the door. The large wall of shelves where only a foot from the door, and snaked around the room to the back walls. Everything was surprisingly organized. In one section were the swords, followed by maces, then axes. The next section consisted of bow, crossbows, throwing starts and daggers, and throwing axes. The last section was armor, organized by where it was placed on the body. It started with helmets, and went to breastplates, then arms, followed up with leg pieces. Shields where the last section, all of different shaped and sizes. The room was half armory, half museum; containing weapons from all over the Witherian lands from every tribe, from every decade.
The guest rooms where smaller. They had a bed in the far left corner, and a desk on the far right. It had paper, and quills ready for use. There was a chest at the foot of the bed for any of the guest's items. A larger mirror stood on the same wall as the door, covering the other half of the wall. Beside the bed was a Witherian banner.
The castle grounds where open and green. The castle section was in the rear end, flanked and surrounded by a forest. The castle has some flowers in the front, and one fountain on the right side of the road. On the right, a small garden stretches out to the forest. Behind the garden is a field that hides behind the castle. Dummies are set up all over the training field at random intervals. On the left side of the castle's road are wild flowers, trailing all the way to the ridge. The ridge overlooks most of Wither, with Arleon visible on the other side of the plains. It is said that a small pond also exists a short walk in the forest. At night wild pokemon come out to the training field and the ridge to play.
____________________________________
The Arleon castle sits outside of the large city of Grenold. The main street of Grenold continues through the castle grounds. The path is flanked by wild flowers, then large shrubs. The path leads to flowing steps, and majestic fountains. From there the path splits left and right, both leading to the castle. At the top of the second set of stairs the small lake turns into a large final fountain, and the path meets. Up some last few stairs, the castle sits, dwarfing everything around it in a marble white.
Grenold is an old town, dating back the creation of the Arleon Empire. The large town has been multiply destroyed by fires, and rebuilt only stronger and more high tech (for their time). The road that comes from the castle goes strait though the town, and then starts to wind through the alleys. A church sits opposite of the castle in the southern tip of the town. North of the church, is the market square with all sorts of shops line the circle around the statue of Arleon's first king. To the south west of the church is a small well, the cities first well. It sits feet from the edge of town, and is now thought to grant wishes.
Marc had always wanted to visit Grenold. After all it was one of Arleon's most important cities but Marc had never had the time to visit. When he was young his parents didn't have the money for holidays and he'd been training from the day he caught Houndour, or Houndoom as it is now. Houndoom was by him trying to adapt to being in a city rather than out in the country. It took a few seconds for Marc to remember Houndoom had never been in a city before.
Marc walked down the main street of Grenold, passing through the castle grounds and most of the city before arriving at the market. Marc thought he'd see if the shops sold anything he didn't already have. They didn't, which disappointed Marc because he'd expected more than just what he could find in a village shop in a major city. Marc noticed the church as well but Marc wasn't the religious type. Marc remembered that Grenold had already suffered multiple fires and been re-built a lot of times. Marc joked with the idea of using Houndoom to burn Grenold to the ground for a while but decided against it.
[[OOC: Oooh. My history kinda ignores the fact that I'm recieving a crystal now. Should I just go with it? :D ]]
Jen picked up the crystal lightly and held it up to her face. The plan was still running through her head and in all honesty, it terrified her, but made perfect sense tactically. All she could see, however, was the fact that her lack of armour, as she had decided to avoid the heavy metal shielding, would leave her open to any attacks. She only hoped her speed and agility would be enough to keep her out of line of any Arleon sword. She made a mental note to sharpen her kukri soon, as they had bluntened slightly after her last training session two days ago.
She listened politely to Leon's orders and smiled across the table to the second girl before turning back to Spoink. She knew the function of the crystal, but she also knew how it could change her; the fusing of two souls was not to be taken lightly.
"Later," she whispered to Spoink, tucking the crystal into her money pouch on her belt.
A little corridor wandering soon lead her to the room she thought could be her own, and she settled down on the bed. The journey here had really taken it out of her, and if the plan were to go ahead, she would need all the energy she could get. She laid her head down on the pillow and Spoink slowed his bouncing to a steady rate at the foot of the bed. Jen's mind was a turmoil of thought. She found herself thinking of things that shouldn't bear thinking of at this moment. The most prominent was death - it petrified her, as she had witnessed it before and would not have wished it upon anyone And yet, she was part of a squadron that would be expected to kill. A single name came to mind: Edgear. His face blotted her mind's eye, calling out to her, taunting her.
She doubted she would be able to sleep in this state. And yet, her eyes were already closed and she was already on the verge of dropping off.
Outside, the sun shone brightly. It was still the middle of the day.
