    I need more information.

How does this work in the United States? Is Sharai law only something practiced privately? Does it replace the judicial system in anyway?

Here, in Canada, "faith-based arbitration" is allowed to settle certain matters outside of the court system. Now, if that is the case in the States as well, then, yes, I would be against that. Not vehemently, mind you, because it doesn't really concern me.

But, in the case of Sharia law, for example, women fare far worse in divorce, child custody and inheritance matters - which is what "faith-based arbitration" covers.

So, in the name of equality I would agree that it shouldn't be practiced in such a manner that usurps the court system. But, again, like I said earlier - if that is not actually the case in the States, and it is more like a private/personal living code - then I don't care if it is practiced.
Women ought to fare worse than they currently do in divorce. As it is, an "enterprising" young woman can marry a rich person and divorce him, taking half his stuff in the process. That's just absurd. Child custody is screwed up, too; there has to be a very bad reason or fathers get to see their children far less than mothers. I just think a little equality would be nice.

As it pertains to the US, the way it ought to be is this. So long as Muslims live within the bounds of US law, they ought to be allowed to practice an additional set of restrictions if they wish. The way I understand it, these congressional idiots are trying to outlaw this.

Ah, what wonderful people we have in the South. Now I know why my grandparents went to New York instead of settling further down the seaboard.

I don't hold it against you Americans, rather I blame the bigots that are allowed into congress these days (or however it is your legislative system works). I don't even blame Christianity. It's always been a personal belief of mine that no religion, not even that one with the DC-8 and the volcano (You know who you are ;D), is inherently bad or preaches strife amongst races. Sects of certain religions, The Nation of Islam being a prominent example, certainly do advocate some form of discord, but they're just deviants, and are therefore not representative of the entire religion.

    I must protest.

You're one of those internet people who think they know everything about a certain group of people just because they've either experienced the threat or have read about it somewhere on the internet. I empathise with you for your loss, but I don't go around burning German flags for what the Nazis did.

Anyway, what you're saying is that Islam, as a religion, is evil for all these things that people do? Allow me to emphasize that you're blaming a religion for what people (misguided people) do.

As for Muhammad (S.A.W.) marrying a nine year old girl... I bet you went on Wikipedia or one of those other hate sites didn't you? Allow me to enlighten you:

Fact: Any account of Muhammad's (S.A.W.) life, narrated through the eyes of his followers is known as a Hadith.
Fact#2: Hadiths are not the penultimate word of God. Not all of them are reliable.
Fact#3: The Hadith in question contradicts both historical and Quranic evidence.

And also, Shariah law prohibits the consummation of marriage for someone who hasn't yet reached mental and sexual maturity.

    Problem?
Since when is Wikipedia a hate site? Pointing a religions rules out to keep that religion in good light does nothing. He married a little girl and that is wrong no matter where you are, as they can't have children yet. I've spent time and I know what it's like with Muslim Extremists.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Notice where it says "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". Congress can't pass the bill.

If the South is so racist, explain this to me:

Why do I wake up in the morning, listen to a black man singing on the radio, go to school with black students (And no riots break out!), listen to my black teacher, listen to a speech from my black president, and go home, all without any conflict ensuing?

And did I mention there's a Muslim in one of my classes? At a Catholic school?

Well explain why I personally am blamed for bombing Pearl Harbor because I'm half-Japanese, that almost everyone I know despises Islam despite knowing nothing about it, and that "mexicans" (Anyone from South of the border) are all considered illegal immigrants who should be kicked out of the country. (I live in the bigotous state of Texas.)

Sure, it's not blacks. It's just everyone else. That is, if arguments from experience are permissible.

Yeah, I have to concur that Wikipedia is hardly a hate site.

You must live in a different place in Texas than where I spent time. Many people there are very nice and could careless about your race or anything. You are speaking from very little knowledge of the world. I've read the Quran, and I think it's stupid. It goes against everything that we as Western Culture have set up as moral. Marrying young girls is Illegal here, and if Muslims want their right to do it then they can do it where it is legal. We shouldn't change ourselves for people to do things that we all know is Immoral.

I live in Arlington, which is between Dallas and Fort Worth. It's a pretty big suburb.

For one, who are you to say that I have little knowledge of the world? And what does that even matter if I do have knowledge of the situation in context? You seem to be committing an ad-hominem attack and a poorly-executed one at that.

As for Western Morality... It's just a mechanism for control. I have a question, does marrying a young girl do any damage to either party? Not particularly, if it does not entail abuse in some way. So why is it immoral? Control. Not only that, but intellectual laziness.

So I for one find that your "morality" has no basis in reality and therefore, I am afraid I cannot concur with the idea that we "all" know it is immoral.

I was saying you probably don't have the best grip on the world, but I don't know, I don't know where you've been and stuff. Here is my question, is robbing a little girl the choice of who she wants to be with later in life moral? Is tricking people who aren't fully capable to make choices like that for themselves yet moral? You call me Intellectually lazy, but I pose these questions. Have you ever been a Victim of child sex abuse? Not even abuse, but just grooming, it is in itself all for the sick(and it is a mental disorder, and accepted by the medical community as one) individual that likes paedophilia? Your Pseudo-Nietzsche thought train is a thing I have seen many younger people go through.

After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that you're right, though your morality is still a flawed premise. I dismiss pedophilia not on a "moral" basis, but on a rational one. I think any talk of morality in a discussion does constitute intellectual laziness. (Also, Pedophilia in of itself is not wrong, it's when it comes to harm self or others that it becomes... well harmful)

btw, I wouldn't consider my overall philosophy Nietzschean, as I disagree on his ideas about the will to power and I also believe he places too much emphasis on individualism.

Alright first off what's with these sterotypes of the south? I for one live in TN and I'm not racist nor are a majority of the people here. Sure there are racists here but there are everywhere. I don't think you would like it if I said Canada was a craphole of a wasteland with like 90 people that nobody in the world cares for because.....oh yeah it's Canada? Now I have heard several and that's one but not my view. There's multiple sterotypes for everyone, everywhere and franctly the whole racist south thing is wrong in this modern time. and second do any of you even know what Sharia Law is??? It's bad for ALL societys period. If you knew anything about radical Islam you guys would know this instead of this whole "Islam is the religion of peace" bullcrap. I will share a few reasons out of DOZENS why it is bad so that you can hear both sides of the story for you bigots out there.

These are in no particular order guys just numbers I'm putting down numbers to seperate them.

1: Islam demands that drinkers and gamblers should be whipped. In 2001 Iranian officials sentenced three men flogging not only for illicity sex, but also for drinking alcohol. In 2005, In Nigeria a sharia court ordered that a drinker should be caned 8 strokes. In 2005 (again )in the Indonesian provinence of Aceh 15 men were caned in front of a mosque for gambling. This was done publically so all could see and fear. The Quran Sura 5:90-91. "The prohet felt it hard ( was angry ) and ordered all those who were present in the house, to beat him [ the drinker dragged into Mohammed's presence ]. (Bukhari, Punishments, nos 67744-6775.)

2: Islam allows husbands to hit their wives even if the husbands merely fear highhandedness in their wives: In 2004 Rania al-Baz, who had been beaten by her husband made her ordeal public to raise awareness about violence suffered by women in the home of Saudi Arabia. The Quran 4:34 says: " If you fear highhandedness from your wives remind them , then ignore them when you go to bed, then hit them. If they obey you, you have no right to act against them. God is most high and great".

3: Islam says to excute homosexuals, multiple wives, death to "infidels", jews, buddhists, Christians, and all non-believers or Like I said infidels. I can show verse after verse to prove the above if you do not believe me.

Sharia Law prohibits the exact opposite of what a normal healthy society needs. Murdering innocent non-muslims, homosexuals, cutting the hands off of thieves both male and female, adultery. It's about endless.

I have no problem with muslims considering I have a few friends that are muslim and we get along fine but Sharia Law is dangerous and very very bad. Do you think if America was 90% muslim there would be all the churches we have? Do you think I could be an outspoken proud Christian? Do you think I could preach Christianity or Judaism? Or better yet speak out against Islam? Well why don't you take a look at Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc etc.. and you tell me. Islam is the most violent and intolerant religion on Earth and if you know anything about religion you know this as well as I do. Now that being said I may differ from Islam's view but I do feel people should be able to practice what they want. Simple as that.

P.S. I am not a troll, just showing the other side of the coin and setting a few things straight. That is all I have to say on this matter. I have been into alot of religous talks and debates and it gets old. Any more that you want an answer from or info you can PM me. That is all.

You're grouping Sharia Law together with radical Islam, so any point you tried to make is invalid. so that was your first mistake. Secondly, those are wildly out of context and generalized statements.

And you can find the same punishments, guess where! The Bible. And Judaism has similar punishments as well.

Genesis 4:13-14 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

Job 31:11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

Romans 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Designed to be a warning to others.

Deuteronomy 13:11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

Deuteronomy 17:13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.

Deuteronomy 19:20 And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.

Deuteronomy 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Proverbs 17:26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.

Deuteronomy 19:13 Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

Deuteronomy 19:21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
    Without partiality.

Deuteronomy 13:6-8 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:
    By order of magistrates.
Acts 16:22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

2 Samuel 1:13-16 And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite. And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed? And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD'S anointed.

1 Kings 2:23-46 Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life. Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day. And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died. And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted. So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the LORD; that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh. ...

Deuteronomy 25:2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.

Joshua 7:25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

Deuteronomy 13:9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Deuteronomy 17:7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Acts 7:58-59 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

Numbers 15:35-36 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
    By soldiers.

2 Samuel 1:15 And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.

Matthew 27:27-35 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. ...

Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to the grave in peace.
1 Kings 2:8-9 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword. Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wise man, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.

Deuteronomy 22:19 And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.

Comparing Islam to Christianity is like comparing Apples to Oranges. They have similarities but for the most part are completely different. When it comes to violence Islam outweighs the rest. When's the last time you heard of a major Radical Christian attack? I can remember the last time a violent radicakl attack was. In fact there was a recent attack on American troops in Germany. Remember? and for the most part alot of the violence in the Bible was directed towards Israel and Jesus Christ never killed anyone, whipped, etc etc... If we all lived like Mohammed we would be in prison. If we lived like Jesus Christ we would be perfect.

Oh and I also have many other examples and can far outmatch the ammount of "violent" verses if you want to compare.

Christians today do not practice any practices that a small amount did in the past unlike Islam. Islam still does stonings, mass murders, terrorist attacks, and that of such. I can't remember the last time Christians, Jews, Buddhists, flew planes into towers as a terrorist attack. Can you answer why surrounding countries want the complete and uttter destruction of Israel, and the western society? I sure can but wait wait wait they're the religion of peace right? They're not violent oh surely not Radical Islam? Heck even moderate muslims don't speak out and say "hey this is wrong". Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verse of violence , most of the verses of violence in the quran are open ended, meaning that the historical context is not embedded within the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as revelant or subjective as anything else in the Quran. oUnfortunately, there are very few verses of tolerance and peace to abrogate or even balance out the many that call for non believers to be fought and subdued until they either accept humiliation, are killed, or convert to Islam. This provicity towards violence and Mohammad's own martial legacy has left a blood trail of tears accross world history.

Of course there's things in the Bible that go against what we Christians do today. We do not live to wipe the planet of the Jews or infidels ( radicals islamists )-------------------------------------------------------------^^^^^

I just came to show the other side. The true Sharia Law side. I can co-exist with people who are muslim or any other religon for that matter but radical religion whether Sharia Law or those morons at the Westboro Baptist Church is unnaccepltable.

This is more of a Free Exercise issue rather than an Establishment issue. The law isn't establishing a religion, but prohibiting people from practicing the laws of their religion.

Since when is Wikipedia a hate site? Pointing a religions rules out to keep that religion in good light does nothing. He married a little girl and that is wrong no matter where you are, as they can't have children yet. I've spent time and I know what it's like with Muslim Extremists.

Yeah, I have to concur that Wikipedia is hardly a hate site.
It's probably my English, but that's not what I meant. What I meant, but maybe wasn't clear enough, was Wikipedia or a hate site elsewhere. Meaning I wasn't grouping wikipedia with the hate sites, rather the hate sites were another group apart from Wikipedia in which the information may have been obtained. Also, @Anthraxinsoup, I said that this account contradicts historical and quranic evidence.

1: Islam demands that drinkers and gamblers should be whipped.
So basically, you're implying that alcohol and gambling should be allowed? How many people have fallen prey to drunk-driving? How many families have lost it all at the slots? How many husbands have been drunk after a poker game in which he lost a substantial amount of money and proceeded to beat his wife. You're basically telling me that you shouldn't be punished for comitting a sin. Also, one of the main purposes for punishment is to educate. It's futile if no one learns from someone else's mistake. I rest my case.

I think you're missing the point here. While I personally don't advocate the beating of woman, I'm sure a lot of other modern muslims don't either, the Quran explicitly states that the beating should be done as a last resort. A Last Resort. Apparently, some people skip to the end. In fact, the Quran preaches men to be kind to their wives.

3: Islam says to excute homosexuals, multiple wives, death to "infidels", jews, buddhists, Christians, and all non-believers or Like I said infidels. I can show verse after verse to prove the above if you do not believe me.
    Alright, show me.

Why are you basing your argument around hate and vague statements? Prove to me explicitly that Islam itself is violent and intolerant. Don't, however, use evidence of what regular people have done in order to implicate the whole of the Islamic community. That would be the same as me bashing the Christians for the Crusades or the Inquisition.

Comparing Islam to Christianity is like comparing Apples to Oranges. They have similarities but for the most part are completely different. When it comes to violence Islam outweighs the rest. When's the last time you heard of a major Radical Christian attack
    America. KKK. WASPs.

If we all lived like Mohammed we would be in prison. If we lived like Jesus Christ we would be perfect.
And why's that? I don't deny that living like the prophet Isa (Jesus) would yield a bountiful life, but why would living like the prophet Muhammad S.A.W. land you in prison?

Christians today do not practice any practices that a small amount did in the past unlike Islam. Islam still does stonings, mass murders, terrorist attacks, and that of such. I can't remember the last time Christians, Jews, Buddhists, flew planes into towers as a terrorist attack. ... is not representative of Islam as a whole.

Heck even moderate muslims don't speak out and say "hey this is wrong".
    Yes, yes they do.

Can you present to me these verses (with references) from an unbiased perspective?

Comparing Islam to Christianity is like comparing Apples to Oranges. They have similarities but for the most part are completely different.
Actually, they're extremely similar. Both accept Jesus as an important figure, both claim to have "started" with Abraham, both are monotheistic, they technically both worship the same god...

When it comes to violence Islam outweighs the rest.
    Except when it doesn't.

When's the last time you heard of a major Radical Christian attack?
This fellow shot an abortion doctor on October 23, 1988. This fellow is guilty of the same crime. Not big enough incidents? How about these fellows? It seems they did a lot of stuff in their time in the name of Protestant Christianity.

I can remember the last time a violent radicakl attack was. In fact there was a recent attack on American troops in Germany. Remember? and for the most part alot of the violence in the Bible was directed towards Israel and Jesus Christ never killed anyone, whipped, etc etc...
Do you even understand what you're saying? You sound like toddler trying to explain an event that was way too complicated for their little head.

If we all lived like Mohammed we would be in prison. If we lived like Jesus Christ we would be perfect.
I disagree on both accounts, primarily because, as a non-Christian, I believe Jesus's philosophy was quite full of silliness and bigotry. Won't go into it too much, though. Don't want to start anything.

Oh and I also have many other examples and can far outmatch the ammount of "violent" verses if you want to compare.

Christians today do not practice any practices that a small amount did in the past unlike Islam.
    What?

Islam still does stonings, mass murders, terrorist attacks, and that of such.
And Christians still rape little boys, slaughter abortion-clinic doctors, and that of such.

I can't remember the last time Christians, Jews, Buddhists, flew planes into towers as a terrorist attack. Can you answer why surrounding countries want the complete and uttter destruction of Israel, and the western society?
Well mainly because Israel is on Muslim land, which caused a lot of conflict. This included a major war in which Israel used U.S. equipment to bomb Muslim territories.

I sure can but wait wait wait they're the religion of peace right? They're not violent oh surely not Radical Islam?
Well the point of radical Islam... is that it's radical. There's radicals for every religion, so I suggest you refrain from criticizing lest you be criticized.

Heck even moderate muslims don't speak out and say "hey this is wrong".
    Do agree here, actually.

Well the... open-endedness of old-testament verses hasn't influenced Christianity's policy on violence it would seem...

This provicity towards violence and Mohammad's own martial legacy has left a blood trail of tears accross world history.
The same could be said for Christianity.

Of course there's things in the Bible that go against what we Christians do today. We do not live to wipe the planet of the Jews or infidels ( radicals islamists )-------------------------------------------------------------^^^^^
There was this big thing propagated by the Catholic church... 'twas called the holocaust. =/

Is Tennessee of all places going to practice Sharia Law?

It's fear-mongering and quite an assault on other cultures. But then again we'll just get into the whole Judeo-Christian theology debate so I'll end here.

Actually, this is the most rational thing anyone here has said so far. Why bother enacting said law if the thing it's denying wasn't a big problem in the first place? It all reeks of bigotry to be honest.
