My favorite rival of all time has to be Silver. He's the one that gave me the biggest challenge.

I really liked Silver; He wasn't a pushover and I enjoyed seeing him change over the course of the story.

I also liked Wally, but I'd have to pick Silver over him.

Tie between Cheren and Barry for me. Cheren shares a few similarities with me (Pokemon knowledge, general look) and I like how Barry is always in a rush to do something.

Silver is the best. He wasn't some competitive friend, he was a criminal! He had a dark point of view on life. I doubt you'll see that in today's Pokemon games.

Barry and Silver definitely. But Silver is more...menacing. The way he talks like some arrogant guy. Yeah, a true rival. Barry gives me the creeps whenever he go "THUD!!!!" I mean, who in the world will make that sound when bumping? Hahaha.

Wally....just so you know, he's your true rival in R/S/E not Brendan/May :3

Actualy I belive they could both be considered to be your rival. The idea of more than one rival is brilliant like how in B/W you have three other people fighting you on your journy. N, Cheren and Bianca.

N runs off making you feel sad at the end of the main storyline. Bianca battles you every once in a while at the profesor Juniper's lab.

I'm not exactly sure where cheren goes. I wonder if you can battle him again?

    ====== Back to wally...

He only fights you two or three different times. Th only ones I remember is infront of mauville gym and again in the pokemon league. Brendan/may make up for his absence a little but I look forward to seeingm ore of him in the rse remake.

Silver, he has that rival personality that makes the game more realistic. Gary was good though also.

In order of best to worse imo - Silver, Gary, Barry/Cheren, Belle, Wally, N, Brendan/May.

Silver was the most engaging character out of the lot, and the guy you liked to hate - and had some character development too! Gary as well is someone who I enjoyed to beat and also had a defined personality. Cheren... well he kept on about being 'strong' and all a bit too much for my liking but at least had some personality, and Barry at least was amusing at times and had pretty good theme music too.

Wally was not much of a rival though imo because...you battle him twice (once against a lone Ralts) and basically disappeared for more than half a game. N I just dislike because he felt too much like a stalker to me and his ill-defined team didn't sit that well for me, but the other RSE rivals were just plain boring. They kept being nice when they lost, had no real personality and then gave up in Lilycove without even having their starter fully evolved. And to boot they then try to give you advice on beating the champion. =|

Silver because he's got a nasty attitude and basically behaves like a decent rival should... he's not your buddy after a friendly battle, he wants to pound your face into the ground.

    Which makes him awesome.

Silver. A Rival should be a Rival. Not your best friend after you totally obliterate their party again and again and again. ;)

I liked Cheren too. Because he was so power-hungry and actually put up a good fight.

honestly, i prefer blue due to some of the "backstory" that isnt obvious.

for instance, when you battle him on SS anne on the original red... he has a raticate. when you find him next, he's standing in front of a tombstone and he has no ratticate. you killed it.

another point like that, is at the end. he just became champion and seconds afterwards, you defeat him... but when you find him in gold/silver... his blastoise (or whatever he picked) is gone.... yeah. you f-ing kill that too.

in other words, this guy has spent half his pokemon career hating you for killing his pokemon, and in the end you throw him off his parade float, and killed his best friend. oh, and he's an orphan too. nice, right?

Easily Barry. I really liked his design and, like Blue, he was the rival that you really wanted to beat. His personality was pretty unique as well, I liked how he was always in a rush.
