    Quitting Pokemon

    » Quitting Pokemon

-Pokemon, like most childhood interests can fade after a while, and Pokemon is no exception, in addition to this, there are many other reasons as to why people ditch the monsters that made their childhood so enjoyable.

    Questions

Have you ever thought of quitting Pokemon?

    If so, why?

Finally, what reasons would cause someone to abandon Pokemon for good?

I suppose you could say that I "quit" Pokemon for a while during the fourth generation. I didn't get Pearl until a while after it came out after fighting with my siblings for it and even then I wasn't too interested in the fourth generation. I can't exactly say what time span it was when I "quit", but it eventually came back.

I honestly don't think I could actually quit Pokemon. I mean, I could quit playing the same, or whatever, but I'll still be a fan, even if I tried not to. It's been with me for too long to turn back.

There are several reasons as to why someone would quit being a fan of Pokemon. There are some people who just grow out of it, while other have their own reason for quitting Pokemon. Maybe for more personal reasons, or maybe because they just damn feel like it.

I have thought about it. The bashing from others saying "its for kids" "grow up" or "your too old to be playing that" when its just a video game. After awhile I came to my senses and realized this is gonna ride out wit me. People love Star Wars just as much and I don't have a problem wit that.
Besides can you really tell a Pikachu good-bye?

For me quitting is common, for most things. I don't stay a huge fan of things for long periods of time, I always move on to the next best thing. After the second generation I "quit", not in the sense that I thought to myself that I would no longer play Pokemon games, but after I bought Sapphire and couldn't beat it I didn't buy FR/LG at all, and Pearl I bought as HG was coming out and HG a few months before B/W. Those two I didn't beat because I got bored. I drifted, and then came back this generation.

I could see a lot of people drifting. Not saying "I don't like Pokemon anymore", just...not playing anymore. I met a girl who complimented my Pikachu bag, and then said "I love Pokemon!" I started talking to her about B/W and she said "oh...I stopped playing after Yellow." Lol.

You could probably say that I have quit playing for a while now, as I haven't touched any of my Pokemon games in like, at least a year, and I haven't gotten Black or White yet, so I won't probably be playing anytime soon. :\ I will play again when I get White, but I dunno when that will be, so until then, I am at least on hiatus. XD

I haven't considered quitting Pokemon because the games (competitive battles) and anime are what keep me hooked to it.

I think that people quit Pokemon for good because of how the games' and show's plots are continually recycled, as well as the horrible designs of the newer Pokemon in their opinion.

Yeah I have thought about quitting pokemon a few times. Especially in the past recent months with the workload getting bigger and losing interest. I kinda hope I will grow out of it when I'm older, if not then I might quit to concentrate on more real life things rather than cartoons. But for now I am still a fan, not sure if it is a good or bad thing though. It is just really addictive, no matter how many times I try to quit, I get hooked again. Like when Black and White came out I got super hooked back into it. So until the franchise ends complete, which might be soon since they have a massive 5 generations already, I will find it hard to quit.

For me, the day I quit Pokemon is the day I take a gun, shoot my inner child in the head and back away watching as he bleeds to death in front of me.

Sure, there are times when you quit for a while because you get sick of it and need a break, but to make the conscious decision to "grow up" and not partake at all ever again, and quit in such a finite way, it's just not something I could ever do. I will be playing/watching/whatever Pokemon until there is nothing left of it to play/watch/whatever.

    Wow, Andy. That... gruesome!

I'm a definite quitter. I went completely cold turkey on everything Poke-related for about 5 years... only getting back into the series with the re-release of the Johto games; they were always my faves. It was surprisingly easy to give it up as well. There were no withdrawal symptoms like you get with hard drugs or alcohol, and my life was relatively normal.

I guess boredom with the franchise as a whole is a good enough reason to quit. I used to love kids TV shows; now, apart from a few that have genuinely good credentials, I just don't watch them any more. It's not just because I've grown up, but tastes in pretty much everything change and evolve (heh!) with time. It's understandable that most of the Pokemon base is under 25 for this reason.

I haven't made a decision to quit Pokemon yet, though I do have periods of inactivity where I'll leave the games alone for awhile. However, Black and White are making a VERY convincing argument for me quit the games for good, save for playthrough runs of the old games for nostalgic purposes. Those games were just a huge letdown and I'm not liking the direction the franchise is going, which is a pretty convincing argument to give up on it.

Besides that, the basic Pokemon formula has remained the same for ages, and it's easy to get bored even if the quality didn't start to nosedive.

There was a time when i quit because of
what people said about me being childish, in my
country, people don't care about rpg games and
anime, they think that they're only for kids
but lately, i figured out that there are a lot of
people who have the same way of thinking as mine
so i thought "what the hell!! i'm not gonna hide it
anymore!!" and i'm having fun right now without
suffering from other people's thoughts... it sounds
like a drama movie :P but it's real.

I've had times when I was drifting away from the franchise, but quitting has never been a thought that came to me. And if I was to abandon Pokemon for good, it has to be a good reason like...I don't know. I can't think of a good reason. xD

    You cannot quit Pokemon.

5 years ago I thought I was going to quit Pokemon for sure, but a year ago I got on Pokemon again when I went to a house party. Ever since then I've been doing Pokemon twice a day.

To this day I ask myself, "Is doing Pokemon going to ruin my future?". I seriously wished there is Rehab for Pokemon, but with 649 kinds of Pokemon it is definitely hard to quit.

Well I "quit" after Emerald, because I thought Pokemon was lame and not for teens, but I started playing again in 2010 when I decide to try Platinum, haven't looked back since (I guess you could call it a 5 yr hiatus XD)

I've never thought about quitting pokémon. I may have lost a little faith sometimes in the series, but I've never wanted to quit.
Pokémon is a very big part of my childhood and you don't throw away your childhood like its some old sweater. At least I don't do that.
But to me pokémon is serious business that you don't give up on.

During the past...4 years (sso since 4th gen) my pokemon interests have faded behind my music interests and writing....I write creepy pastas about pokemon and I am interested in learning about Pokemon but...I just haven't played the last 2 gens as much as I expected I would which is very sad considering how hyped I got about them

I don't really know... Quitting in my terms means dropping something and never looking back. I can't say I haven't considered stopping my habits, with life getting heavier as time goes by. I've playing it from time to time, especially when a new game comes out (hey, I don't play Pokemon non-stop, but that doesn't stop me from being the local Pokemon addict at our school).

But every time I think about quitting, I just realize that I can't quit. Old habits die hard. Maybe if my life calls for it, then I can pause, but as long as I still find it fun to play the same old games, then I'll keep playing.

I think I believe most people quit because they simply do not need something in their lives, or just realized that that thing doesn't help them in anyway. If that applies to Pokemon, then I guess I'd be hanging on to the franchise much longer than I'd thought.
