  • Hello everyone! I'm a fellow shiny hunter! I never really thought of myself as a patient person, so until Pokemon X/Y I never even really attempted to find shinies. But now, I'm doing my very best! So far I've got three, and I'm proud of them! I have shiny Politoed, shiny Clawitzer, and shiny Ditto!

I'm currently hunting for shiny Ralts (that mega Gardevoir... ^^), shiny Marill and shiny Magikarp!

EDIT: I also just got a precious little shiny Furfrou from a trade! How exciting!

I totally feel your pain. Chaining is haard! My highest chain was 33 until I broke it. The only chaining I'm good at is chain-fishing... My highest was 40 without finding a shiny, and 20 when I did.

I suck at finding shinies in friend safari... I always get impatient... :3c

  • Ah, what a drag - I haven't found any Espurr with the hidden ability on the GTS, so I'm probably going to be forced to try again later. If that's the case, I'll progress on Emerald so I can properly hatch for Dunsparce, soon. Unless...

@Muani: Nice one with the Grumpig! Would you happen to have any spare Espurr with the Hidden Ability you'd be willing to give or trade? I can't offer much aside from 31/31/31/X/31/31 Adamant Unburden Hawlucha and 31/X/31/X/31/31 Bold Adaptability/Run Away Eevee, though.

@Hooh54: Congratulations on the captures! Keep going!

@fireflystorm: Welcome aboard! I hope your hunts go as painlessly as possible.

@ghostshot12349: Greetings! Good luck with the Rattata hunt!

So I need 2 flying types by the end of the month, think I can do it :)

Hope I can get a Gen 5, though I am wondering if maybe we can merge the gen 5 and 6 categories together.....

  • hey so im new to this shiny hunting. Im probaly about to sound like such a noob but what is chaining

There are 2 types of chaining: Fishing chains and Pokeradar.

If you fish consecutively in one spot without moving, then your odds of getting a shiny improve every time. If you don't get a bite, or fail to land it, the chain is 'broken' and you have to start again. There are a few different things to do to make sure you do well. Here is one detailed explaination:

    http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/696959-pokemon-x/67572859

Chaining with the PokeRadar uses a similar idea - you have to 'chain' together encounters of the same Pokemon. There are different rules, and this one is more complicated:

Any questions let me know, I am planing to make a video guide to both of these shortly :)

Chaining is when you use your PokeRadar to encounter a wild Pokemon (via the shaking patch of grass), then KO that pokemon. That begins a "chain", and more patches of grass will shake. As long as the pokemon you encounter are the same as the first one, your chain will continue! If you run into a different pokemon or one outside of the shaking patches of grass, your chain is broken. The higher the chain, the higher the likelihood of catching a shiny!

The same thing with fishing. If you reel in a pokemon, KO it, and keep fishing in the same spot without moving, you'll get a chain. But if you reel it in too slow or too fast, or get the "Nothing seems to be biting" text, your chain is broken.

  • Quick question: If we catch something like a Scatterbug, which isn't a flying type, and evolve it into a flying type, such as Vivillion, does that count as a 'flying' type for the monthly challenge?

I was really happy about Skarmory because it's one of my favorite shinies. Bellsprout was a surprise while EV training.
