Oh, and since I just noticed this, kudos on getting rid of the Teams thread. It's been around as long as I can remember, but I really don't think much will change with it out of the picture.

Though, after all these years, it is kind of sad (not nearly as sad as the death of the Scrapbox, though ;_;)

I liked the team thread though, it's nice to see people attempt to help each other out. Most of them may not know what they're doing at all, but at least they're trying :X

What most people don't understand is that you can just ask for help on specific issues in the help threads. There's always someone who knows what's happening if you're not doing something really technical. I try to encourage their use to most people who come and ask me stuff, but recently I've been into the bad habit of answering their questions and then referring them to the thread. This normally makes me get a lot of repeat PMs (I don't mind but my PM box gets kinda full fast these days).

Anyways, I was thinking about making a video or something about debugging routines/writing routines which aren't standalone. I find most people are clueless about how to find existing routines and how to "customize" them according to your needs. It's a great skill to have, and 90% of the more interesting routines definitely take advantage of it. The only problem is, I'm not qualified. While I know what I'm doing to make a program work like it should be, I'm still not technically well versed enough to explain technicalities. I'm not sure how much that would matter for someone deciding to follow my guide, because chances are they probably don't want to know the confusing itty bitty details. What do you think?

What do you guys think of my hack's region name? It's Whitecrest.

Hmm, in my head it sounds more like a town/city - but a pretty good name I think. I prefer when people use actual words rather than bashing random letters together and having the 'Zplison' region, or whatever. :P

Haha, thanks! I might change it soon enough, when I find some rather suitable name in my hack :P

How do people feel about adaptation hacks? Those which are inspired by (or direct translations) of the Pokemon manga, movies or anime series?

I like them as long as they're exact copies.
I don't want any extra rivals, extra side quests and stuff like that, I want the direct thing. lol.

Mine's the opposite. I like it if it had some side quests and some more added stuff. Making the game more enjoyable. :)

Awkward... ;)

One of the first ever hacks I saw at PC was Meowth's Mewtwo Strikes Back. MSB was more like Blaziken's ideal - however, rather than side quests and bits and pieces Meowth tweaked bits of the story to give it a bit more adventure (from what I can remember).

Anyway, I was thinking it would be cool to have a hack where you can play through some of the movies. Each movie would probably equate to an hour(ish) of play, rather than become a full blown hack.

Well that is a really good idea but that type of hack can never exist unless other people have the same idea as yours.

What do you guys do when you want to hack but aren't motivated to? For me sometimes taking a break for a while helps, since after a while of not working on anything I get really back into it. Playing games, mostly RPGs, also helps sometimes, as I find myself wanting to implement some features in my hack. Looking at other hacks' threads and their screenshots and updates can also be inspiring and motivating.

My reason is remotivate probably the worst is mostly praise tbh. People commenting, saying how they're excited, complimenting something I've put out that's new. Otherwise I find it really hard to get out of hacking slumps ;-; (hence why they last for years at a time! ;) ).

Just look at Pokemon Fluorite and Gaia's screenshot and you're good to go (for me) :D

Does anyone have any links to good posts on "design philosophy" like these posts by DoesntKnowHowToPlay, involving analysis of concrete examples of game inbalance and looking at alternatives? There's no shortage of technical discussion in this section, it'd be nice to have some more ivory-tower thinking as well.
